Hasan was a shrink. It was his job to recognize stress in others and counsel them. So, he snapped, Lonny? If he was stressed, he should have gone to someone for help. The report of his background at Walter Reed indicates to me that he was having problems with his patient interactions (!) and fellow soldiers there. If he had not been a Muslim, he would have been flagged, tagged and bagged long before he started shooting. If an enlisted troop called him a raghead and ripped a bumper sticker off his car, and as a shrink he can't handle that, then he is not suited to counseling others nor suited to being a soldier. If you think that the Army is a haven of multiculturalism while soldiers are training to kill Muslims, you are an idiot. Warriors depersonalize people they are planning to kill. There are no Muslim culture celebrations going on there before they deploy. Deal with it.
The following facts show intent to kill:
1. He had recently started wearing Arabic clothes.
2. He was agitated about being deployed and made comments to others about attacking American soldiers to defend Islam. He specifically talked about defending Islam via suicide bombing. This attack was a suicide shooting. He did not expect to survive this attack.
3. He gave away Korans and his furniture before the attack. He had already told his landlord that he was leaving in 2 weeks. This is evidence that he had been planning this for weeks if not months since he was not due to deploy for some months.
4. He considered himself a Muslim first, American second, as he told some.
5. He considered himself a Palestinian according to the Mosque application for a wife.
6. He yelled God is Great just like the other jidadists have before they have attacked Americans, including the pilot of the plane that went down in PA.

Me- But the qeustion I ask is, if he was doing these things, and people knew about them, why the hell didn't someone say something? IF the FBI was investigating his radical blog postings six months ago, what was this guy still doing on duty, still in a position where he could get as soldiers, not only in a rampage, but messing with their minds in his office?

Me- Quite right. We had this one Lt. who treated the enlisted like morons, even the NCO's, even though he had been an NCO himself before getting through OCS. Pretty much ran him out of the unit. |
