Conservatives Defend Glenn Beck
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 9:23 AM
As several large corporations join the boycott of Glenn Beck, conservatives are rallying to his defense.

Institute for Liberty Senior Fellow in Law and Regulation Horace Cooper, JD, has created a FIGHT FOR GLENN BECK website as "a place for those of us who support him to speak out."

Conservative bloggers have are also defending Beck.  For example, RedState's Erick Erickson is calling on conservatives to join a counter-boycott, writing,

This left wing campaign is being orchestrated by a group started by Obama’s Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones.

If they are successful, they will move beyond Beck to others.

Two of the companies, GEICO and Progressive, are run by liberals. But that’s not the case with all the others.

The best response is to remind all of these companies that there will be repercussions from our side if they are so willing to become pawns of the left.

My personal position on Glenn Beck -- as I discussed on CBN last night (watch here and skip to the 00:15:15 time mark) -- is a bit more nuanced than most.  While I understand the need for conservatives to defend him, I also have always viewed him as being much closer to P.T. Barnum than to William F. Buckley.  That doesn't mean I would support a boycott against his show -- far from it -- but it does make me wonder how much political capital is worth expending.

So the question is:  Should conservatives go to the mat to defend Glenn Beck?

His style may be animated...
...however, the substance of Beck's message is significant. He was almost alone in his bringing visibility to the ACORN "shell game" earlier this year, while interviewing several disgruntled employees of this nefarious group.
The MSM has yet to report on this.
SEIU? Same thing.
Even Van Jones.
This communist rabble rouser who emerged from ground zero of the Rodney King riots has not been exposed for the ilk he is by anyone other than, Glenn Beck.
Democrat Party devil-may-care support for this yahoo is nothing short of reprehensible.

Everyone, regardless of party, should be defending Beck because this is a blantant attempt to stiffle free speech. If they silence him, how many of us will be next?

Beck is entertaining. He isn't a journalist. He knows he isn't a journalist. His show is wildly entertaining and grabs your attention. Sometimes he is a bit over the top, but that is what makes him unique. At the heart of it all, he has an undying devotion to this country and THAT is something to be admired.

Without question. Liberals already control the media. And plus, he speaks a lot of truth, no matter how over the top he can be at times.
SJA writes: Tuesday, August, 18, 2009 9:55 AM
Beck is exposing too much
The left is very concerned that Beck is exposing too much of the truth. I find most of what he does informative and important. So what if he is a little animated, his information is valid and gives us a much better insight into what is really happening in DC and to our country.
Legally Remove BO writes: Tuesday, August, 18, 2009 9:55 AM
bo will try to make an example of Beck
just as he did with Rush and Hannity. Now that OReilly is finally beginning to criticize bo a little I think that Beck like Hannity and Rush will prevail.

We should list and boycott any company that pulls ads from Beck's show.

Our Founding Fathers gave We the People the Fourth Branch of Government, the Citizens Grand Jury, in Our Bill of Rights. These 12 Simple Steps are the way for Patriots to keep control of the Government and to Clean up Corruption in Washington:

1) Advertise and Promote the Fact that you are forming a Grand Jury in Blogs, Local Newspapers and Community Organizations.
2) Form the Grand Jury and select a Foreman.
3) Select a Private Attorney General to make Presentments to Grand Jury, if local DA refuses to make presentments.
4) Select a convenient Meeting Place.
5) Communicate with all Citizens who have criminal information to present.
6) Schedule presentments by said Citizens.
7) Subpoena documents from Government Offices and Officials.
8) Schedule presentment of said Documents to Grand Jury by Grand Jury Attorney General.
9) Have Grand Jury Attorney General present said Documents to Grand Jury.
10) After investigation and deliberation is completed, vote and issue a True Bill (Indictment) or No True Bill.
11 Announce all Indictments to the Press.
12) Serve the Indictment on the Judiciary for the Issuance of Arrest Warrants.

Defend Beck?
If the libs are against Beck, I'm for him. If lib owned companies are against him, I'm against them. In past years I wouldn't get involved, but this president and his crew I believe are trying to radically change this country and I believe I need to be more involved. Our conservative voices have shown politicians to not ignore us, now some advertisers need the same message. Tell the insurance companies to stick it and their irritating commercials too.

We're standing up, Glenn Beck
Yes, Glenn is sometimes over the top but he has brought attention to some very important issues that would otherwise have stayed in the background or been ignored. What these people are doing is treacherous and they will hear from us. I am glad that apathy seems to be waning in this country and more people are willing to do what it takes to make sure we get the attention of those who would ignore us. the best thing we can do to these advertisers is to make sure we do not support them nor any subsidiaries or other parts of the corporations. go to the corporate websites and find their affiliations and knock them off your list of vendors. It make mean a little sacrifice on our parts to change some things or give some things up but it is the right thing to do.
Beck, know this one thing, we are all in this together to save our country. Thank you!!!!

America is being held hostage by
60s style hippies, who for the last 40 years have hijacked the party of Thurman, and made it the party of Soros. These hippies now wear shirt, ties, and coats instead of tie dye, but underneath the suit, lies the same radical intentions and agenda. They were a fringe group in the 60s, and they remain a fringe group today. Yesterday's poll, showing that in ALL fifty states Conservatives outnumber liberals, and nationally, 41% to 21%, confirms their perpetual minority status. This minority fringe group owns the MSM, which allows them have the appearance of great numbers, and then you couple that with the fact that they are loud and unruly, one sees how they have grabbed the reins of power. But now, having greatly overreached with this health care boondoggle, the government take over of the auto industry, and the banking industry, the American people have finally woke up. Woke up to the fact that this fringe group does not represent their values. It's about damn time!!

Last week, when Gibbs was pressed by Major Garrett in a press conference, Gibbs could only provide feckless response as to how the white house accumulated email addresses of those people who did not request to receive emails from the president.
At one point, Gibbs thumbed his nose at Garrett by asking another reporter to ask a, "more productive" question.
Gibbs' arrogant remark is further indication of an administration unwilling to field any rational questioning of their silly methods.

Just another example of a president and his cabal, "ACTING STUPIDLY".

Boycotts work both ways
Those advertisers who have pulled their spots from the Glenn Beck Show certainly within are certainly within their rights to do so. And we, as consumers, are within our rights to withhold our business from those advertisers.

It works both ways. These corporations have to ask themselves a question. In this kind of fight, who has more exposure to harm? Glenn Beck and Fox who now need to find a few new advertisers or the corporations who could potentially lose millions of customers?

The consumer's dollar trumps the advertisers dollar every time.

Striking a nerv
The reason for the attempt to "silence" Glenn Beck is that Beck is connecting the dots. The hydra-headed snake that is ACORN, OFA, SEIU et al and their ties to both the Democrats and especially people in the Obama administration has struck a nerve. This Mafioso type family of left-wing activists has been exposed and they can't survive in the hot light of public scrutiny.

What is clear is that these "community activist" organizations can't defend their actions so they resort to the old mob tactic, "rub 'em out." In this case, they are using corporate extortion as their weapon for the hit. In more succinct terms, when the left can't defend its actions, they resort to destroying the messenger.

Kinda makes a bold statement about the character and judgment of those who support these mobsters.

Forever Fascinating...
...that White House spokesman, Nick Schapiro, would release a written statement "EXCLUSIVELY" to Fox News on this revelatory admission of theirs.

It seems to suggest:
1.) No need to send it to the MSM inasmuch as they've exhibited NO interest in calling out the administration on this nefarious "email" debacle. To them, it's a "NON-STORY". Therefore, what would be the point in sending a written statement to them?

2.) This whole "BIG BROTHER" anecdote was exposed by FOX NEWS and them alone. It would seem to suggest that if the white house directed their "admission" of guilt only to FOX NEWS, it could send the message to, Leftists/Liberals/Progressives/Commmunists/Socialists/Victicrats/Democrats that this story is not "relevant" to them. If it funnels only through FOX NEWS, it'll be received by the aforementioned groups as "tainted" information and not containing any Truth at its core.
How could it?
It's a FOX NEWS story. To them, it's nonsense by definition.

"progressive" insurance nonsense
"So the question is: Should conservatives go to the mat to defend Glenn Beck?"

I really enjoy Beck, and I'm a well educated conservative.

Sure he's a bit bombastic. This is what Limbaugh calls "Illustrating absurdity through absurdity." And the fact is, it's effective at illustrating the absurdity we now face in this radical government takeover of America.

Honestly, other than Ron Paul (and NO I'm not a Ron Paul "disciple"), there aren't many people out there speaking in support of what the Founding Fathers actually intended when they risked life, limb and fortunes to create this wonderful experiment in Western classically-liberal democracy.

I say "buy the hell out of his other sponsors." And, further, I'd chuck my "progressive" insurance and the "lizard" insurance in a heartbeat, and tell those radical-run businesses, there is a huge financial price to be paid for businesses shooting off their liberal political mouths. Here's hoping the nonsensical "progressive" insurance folds. I'm plenty satisfied with USAA... best insurance I've ever had.

Follow the pres - hit back twice as hard

Sure, fight for Glenn Beck if you desire, but in reality, I say let Glenn fight back on his own. Glenn has a large national audience - use that.

SC Johnson pulls out - fine, their right to do so. But now that they're not a sponsor, illuminate their short comings. Start with the scandal few outside of SE Wisconsin know about: A deal brokered between SCJ and the disgraced mayor of Racine (Gary Becker - arrested for child porn/attempted sexual assault of a child) which gives tax exempt status to SCJs properties. A deal authorized by the about to be disgraced WI governor (Jim "my chief legal counsel isn't legally authorized to practice law in Wisconsin" Doyle).

Perhaps some national exposure spotlight is in order? It's not that you want to be vindictive, but there's a story there... tell it Glenn.

I think Bob Munck "hits the nail on the big sky cowpoke's head" with his Wall-Mart comments. Not all of the companies jumping off the "glenn beck disaster" are run by liberals-even the trogledytes over at red-states(a worthless activitst site-a would be daily kos of the right) can understand that.

Matt, as usual, tries to take a "nuanced"(i.e. wishy washy feet of clay) position putting beck in the catagory of "clown" but just wait until Beck says somethig that Matt likes and just watch how fast beck will be quoted as a serious "libertarian" voice.

But Matt makes one good point if even by accident; the William F. buckley's of the GOP have been replaced with these TV/radion talk show hosts morons. Of course Beck does alot of repeating of what rush Limbaugh says(like most of conservtaive media) and Matt will defend Rush until the cows come home.

So the real question here is why does the GOP and its "elites" continue to lie down in the gutter and ally themselves with half wits?

However, I pose this question. If extreme views aren't allowed to be presented, how much does that encourage apathy in the midst an extreme move of the country to the left ?

Also, will the country now go no platform to Maureen Dowd or Rosie O'Donnell ? They could have just as wide of a media outlet if anyone actually wanted to listen to what they say.

Town hall treatment for corporations
As some have suggested, it is time for a backlash against any corporation who participates in essentially "boycotting" conservative commentators with a little boycott of our own.

The American people have clearly demonstrated at Tea Parties and Town Hall meetings that they won't be cowed by Big Government or Big Business. Just as members of congress believe they can spit in the faces of their constituents, so too it would seem that Big Pharma et al believe they can spit in the faces of their customers.

Those in "Big Business" who find it appropriate to act as the heavy for the left need to get a little of the town hall treatment. No, they need to get the full force of the town hall treatment. This extortion/intimidation racket of the left needs to be met head on.

Absolutely conservatives should go to the mat for Glenn Beck. You have to understand that this is war. We are not in Kansas or 2004 anymore. The liberals are out to get us, they mean business, and we need to protect our ranks. If liberals succeed in their goal of getting Beck off the air, which is their stated goal (this is spearheaded by ColorOfChange.org), they will have taken out a major pro-freedom outlet, and they will further feel emboldened.

Liberals have already succeeded in getting 20 corporations, many of them major, including WalMart, CVS, and Best Buy, to pull advertising from his show. These corporations may have business reasons for doing so, but they need to feel the pain, or they will be rewarded for doing so.

Further, it is time to start considering pulling the same tactic against the left-wing: Maddow, et. al. This is a contest of wills, and further, we outnumber them.

Conservative organizations should encourage their members to drop GEICO and Progressive, which are headed by liberals, and boycott and write to the other organizations. Further information can be found here:

of the nothingness of the "punk", his comment @ 10:31am proves it. The unemployed one, can only use condescension and feigned superiority, thereby, never ever allowing himself to look inward. And that is most certainly the case with the left in general. He never grew up, as did that entire generation of counter culture nuts. To this day, they believe that they are the most important generation to have ever graced, world history. That their vision for America is not the vision that a large majority of Americans have. If it took the election of this guy obama, to awaken the American public, then it was most certainly worth it. Has the left, and their radical agenda, finally been exposed? From now on, when a leftist preaches "hope and change" America will know, exactly what that really means.

I don't watch Glenn Beck. He's just not my cup of tea and I don't watch a lot of TV anyway. (Do I have to turn in my secret neo con decoder ring?)

But I did tune in last night because of the controversy and I was impressed. I agree with you Carlos, that was a good show with real guests.

He does anybody know how far in percentage points Obama's approval ratings have fallen since Beck excercised his free speech rights and call Obama what he really (among other things) is?

Bob?

Val?

Any of you have that graph? I guess it's not much of a graph. Is a single straight line nosediving on a piece of paper really a graph?
Never mind.....

Of course you can't give Beck all of the credit but something is working. No need for Beck or anyone else to back down now. The admin, the MSM and the Townhall trolls wouldn't be out in full swing condemming Beck if they didn't think he was being effective. Unless they are stupid enough (that's possible) to attack a benign target.

Come to think of it, you guys might as well have taken out full page ads in major newspapers (boy could they use a few bones tossed their way) that read.

Hey Glenn. It's working!

As a wife of an Officer in the U.S. Army HANDS off.
We have learned more about the innerworkings of this government and the current culture of corruption in Washington which they began in 2006 when the dems won the majority. It was no this, no that, in preparation of the candidacy of one of their ilk. They did such a good job behing the scene with intimidation, excessive expending and coertion through administrative power they alienated all conservatives against their own. It was true the Republicans were learning from the Dem playbook by the time the elections came around and the country (not me) was disenchanted with the former administration. You set the stage and played the game well until you abused the mandate of the Public and they are revelling against you. Well, let's see. That was on July 28th, when the RCP composite had Obama's approval ratings at 54.1, Gallup had him at 53, and Rasmussen had him at 49. After the terrifying plunge since then, RCP now has him at 53.4, Gallup at 53, and Rasmussen at 49.

Again, that's:
RCP 54.1 -> 53.4
Gallup 53 -> 53
Rasmussen 49 -> 49

So you're right; Beck's attack has been extremely effective. The effect on Obama's approval ratings has been devastating.

Contrary to some popular spin, Walmart is not doing well. They may pull them just to save costs.

Aug. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, reported second-quarter profit that exceeded some analysts' estimates after managing inventory to lower costs. Comparable-store sales trailed the company's forecast.
"This is a problem, dear readers. Walmart has the most volume, the lowest source costing, and the most clout in the physical retail universe. Even they are missing on the revenue front., on their OWN forecasts, not just the sell side. This is where everyone goes to SAVE money. The revenues did not move to Saks Fifth Ave! he IS a comedian after all; he DOES get his point across and cause people to sit up and take notice of what he's saying with his antics after all; AND he is factual, not a compulsive liar as the current staff of our white house ALL are.

I love that he is passionate about our country and it's people. Well Folks, Glenn Beck Terrifies Libs!!!
"*Procter and Gamble"; a company we all grew up with; a genuine American Brand representing multiple products that are (WERE REGARDED) quintessentially American....HAS NOW TURNED ITS BACK on the American People...by threatening; thus, attempting to deconstruct, diminish, snf/ot negate the "First Amendment of the US Constitution": "Freedom of Speech".

I printed out the *P&G" product identification litany and please be advised that THERE ARE many, many other high quality Brands to interchange. *P&G, et al will NOT take away our right to speak freely by baseless threats. WE can speak w/our purchasing power or the lack thereof vs. their product line.

Glenn Beck is an outstanding presenter of meticulous research. Research as to diverse, controversial subjects that all other MSM networks ignore due to their overt bias.

Mr. Beck's effective, histrionic shtick, et al...is part-of his immeasurable charm. He brings an element of political expertise, ethics, common sense and TRUTH that has been lacking in this marketplace for years.

Mr. Beck's show really caught on with my family: we never miss. If we cannot view live, we always record for later scrutiny. We stand and support GLENN BECK!

The fact that Glenn Beck's show on "Fox" is being threatened only exposes the left's hysterics, panic and terror. TRUTH IS ALWAYS THE ENEMY of those perpetrators of habitual deceit and prejudice

Go ahead "Procter and Gamble", et al...repudiate the good graces of your purchasing constituency (market majority) by 54% (and growing). We The People...will boycott all THOSE WHO BOYCOTT GB!!!

Beck is a patriot. Isn't it a shame that the facts get distorted by some dimwitted posters who probably never heard or read anything directly themselves - the only thing they know is what Obama or, or ,um, uh, gibbs says.
Glenn Beck NEVER called Obama a racist, he did however comment that STATEMENTS made by Obama, especially in the Gates situation, were racial, there is a big difference! He would have said that about those statements no matter who said them. The bigotry of the lefties is really coming out now, I thought they were all gone. I watch fox(big Bill O'Rielly fan) all the time and saw the "Fox and Friends" where Beck basically implodded, contradicted himself, and jumped the shark all in a span of 5 minutes or so.

The only proof you need that this fool is toxic is th fact that he has yet to repeat his statements. In fact he's not even addressing the advertiser controversy because he doesn't want to have to publicly explain his statement again outside the Fox comfort bubble.

Actually, he didn't. Newton QUANTIFIED gravity with the law of gravitation: F = G·M·m/r². That tells us what the effect of gravity is, but says nothing about how it works.

In fact, even that law is only an approximation, and doesn't work (isn't accurate enough) for things like the precession of the orbit of Mercury. Einstein's general relativity is a much more accurate statement.

However, GR doesn't tell us how gravity works either; we just frankly don't know. It's probably among the top ten of the most important unanswered questions in physics.

At best Proof for the joe the plumbers that a law degre "don't make ya smart or give ya spine." Go anti-intellectuals! Who needs "book learnin'?"

Hewitt: I was once a huge fan because of his depth of guests and his eye for accurate transcripts. Now few of the site's podcasts are updated and hugh no longer posts his radio transcripts here.

You would think that these professional broadcasters would be tough but in addition to the "liberal comment onslaught" Hugh stopped making rational arguments when he thought Mitt Romney was going to win the White House all the way back in 2006 so its clear that erroding credibility may have also played a larger role than those "pesky libs deriding his opinions."

I also believe that the wave of anti-intellectualism that courses through the GOp played a role as well. Where does an educated pundit go when the rank and file republican thinks Joe the plumber is a political genius for asking one silly question?

Apparently in the free market of ideas called the "inter-web" Hewitt opted to return to radio where calls can be properly "screened."

Bottom line: Hugh is no Bill O'Rielly, who I suggest you watch some time to see Fox at its "best."

Sorry, couldn't resist on more gratuitious shot.

I have to correct what you said about Hugh leaving due to the pummeling he was taking from lefties... Au contraire.... he left because the lefties knew no depths to which they would not sink.

Most of the major offenders were banished time and time again, only to re-appear with new monikers and the most unbelievably bile you ever saw. They have not been around much since you have been here, but I think you would agree....most of ths stuff posted here these days is mild compared to them. True low-lifes....

It really took away from the discussion, and Hugh frankly admitted he wanted no part of that....

In my experience, almost everyone in science and technology is liberal. I can't think of anyone I met in a 40-year career who was active in science or high-tech and conservative; the few conservatives in the field had all gone into management.

I have seen Hugh's articles on politico.com and the "comments" towards him are just as mean spirited there. He needs to, as "NOTW" wrote about Matt Lewis earlier on this thread, "Grow a Pair."

Or is that the kind of talk Hugh eschewed? Hmmm the way some girls talk these days.

Considering what I have seen some self described conservatives /liberatrians post here in the last month I find it difficult to believe that "liberal depravity" was the sole reason for Hewitt's departure.

As far as I can see both sides have felt complacent to wallow in the gutter for years.

not because she wanted to appear younger, which is the reason most women lie about their age. She lied because she wanted to drive home a point about what her kids had experienced. Well, it turned out that was a lie because she had no kids that could have experienced what she was claiming, and she was called out on it.

It was more than an innocent lie about being younger than she really is. It was deceit about scoring points.

Not the same thing. She's a liar, and I don't like or respect liars.

I don't think that Hewitt has actually run away; he's just hidden his comment threads where most people don't know how to get at them. For example, here is the comment thread -- empty -- for one of his blog posts today:

I have an engineering degree to go along with my architecture degree. If you are talking about Dimitri, he was one of my teachers. So he would fit under the other than "many". However, as a supporter of his, it is my right to not buy anything any of these companies make, and that is what I will do. I will not buy Proctor & Gamble. I will not buy Sargento. I will not buy GEICO. I will not buy Progressive. I will not buy State Farm. I will not use Lawyers.com. I have visited their websites and used the "Contact Us" features to let them know. I think Pres. O goes far beyond racism to a kind of "freedom for me---socialism for all you peasants" held by many elite.

I think Pres. O was PICKED because he holds the fashionable semi socialist ideas (with NO core moral values except to gain power) which his backers also believe.
