Kristol's Advice: Fire the Campaign

Bill Kristol offers some interesting advice to John McCain:
What McCain needs to do is junk the whole thing and start over. Shut down the rapid responses, end the frantic e-mails, bench the spinning surrogates, stop putting up new TV and Internet ads every minute. In fact, pull all the ads — they’re doing no good anyway. Use that money for televised town halls and half-hour addresses in prime time.
And let McCain go back to what he’s been good at in the past — running as a cheerful, open and accessible candidate. Palin should follow suit. The two of them are attractive and competent politicians. They’re happy warriors and good campaigners. Set them free.
Provide total media accessibility on their campaign planes and buses. Kick most of the aides off and send them out to swing states to work for the state coordinators on getting voters to the polls. Keep just a minimal staff to help organize the press conferences McCain and Palin should have at every stop and the TV interviews they should do at every location. Do town halls, do the Sunday TV shows, do talk radio — and invite Obama and Biden to join them in some of these venues, on the ground that more joint appearances might restore civility and substance to the contest.
Sure, it's entirely unorthodox -- that's the point. Unless you want to sit around and hope Obama implodes on his own, McCain needs to do something drastic to shake things up. And unlike some of McCain's previous attempts to shake things up, Kristol's idea wouldn't offend the base -- and it would also play to McCain's strengths.
Note: As I've previously written, I do not think McCain should let up his attacks on Obama -- but I don't think following Kristol's advice would preclude him from that. Ideally, this would mean that any attacks launched would be done in a more effective manner ...

The dirty politics until they backfired - now he blames the campaign for doing what he said was the right thing to do to win ----last week, anyway.
This is the way of a true, shameless, immoral shill. |
|
That was my mother's expression. The more we see of the lovely Sarah .. the softer and more comforting McCain appears. However , to throw everyone , where it's very crowded, under the stupid bus.. is assinine! Erratic ?? Crystal was in love with John, along with Britt and the boys .., Mitt wouldn't do .. too nice.. too everything !! Idiots !! We need everything !! Rush was soooo right !! |

"VOTE A TRUE PATRIOTIC AMERICAN NOT A WELFARE PRESIDENT WHO STEALS FROM THE WEALTHY AND GIVES TO THE LAZY POOR"
What do you mean about stealing? McCain, like Obama, voted in favor of the 700 billion dollar bail out. To me, that is stealing and this is only the beginning.
And,
Why are you yelling?
|
|
VOTE MCCAIN/PALIN NIX VIRGINIA'S ADVICE VOTE A TRUE PATRIOTIC AMERICAN NOT A WELFARE PRESIDENT WHO STEALS FROM THE WEALTHY AND GIVES TO THE LAZY POOR WE ARE NOT A MARXIST NATION, DON'T LET OBAMA TURN IT INTO ONE WAKE UP AMERICANS ALL THE PEOPLE SUPPORTING OBAMA HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BRAINS! THEY AREN'T VOTING FOR SANE REASONS ASK THEM! |
|
Understood. I figured that was the case. He's got quite a track record. An agenda? Yes. PNAC.
========= "McCain Could Step Down That would shake things up"
VP, LOL! Ha! |
|
You people are getting what you voted for...
Why you nominated that man, I will never know. Win or lose, American loses.
Vote 3rd party. Make your statement now. |
|
|
Vote third party. McCain is going to lose anyway, why waste your vote? |
|
Not his campaign staff, not Palin, not the advertising.
Running a traditional Democrat as the GOP nominee was NEVER going to work. |
|
|
That would shake things up. |
|
I stand corrected. I wrote that in haste. He is an idiot - with an agenda.
|
|
"McCain needs to do something drastic to shake things up."
He might try running as a conservative instead of a neocon.
"Bill Kristol turned out to be an idiot."
You only now have figured that out? Some of us have known this for years. He's also been wrong the vast majority of the time on top of being an idiot. |
|
What a defeatist attitude! Kristol needs to grow a pair. Two weeks out from the election and he wants the campaign staff fired?! That would sure look desperate!
Why is he giving Brokaw and other fodder to toss at McCain? If you have nothing positive publicly to say, keep your mouth shut, Bill! If you have any criticisms, do it in private.

What McCain needs to do is make an advertisement storyline. Start with the basics and then get to the workings. For example, on William Ayers I would start off by showing how close Barack and Ayers were. Then I would show the results of the two of them together. Then I would ask if Barack Obama would do to the entire US what he and Williams Ayers did to chicago schools.
This can work with ACORN. Ayers. Every place he has worked. |

I think we've had enough of your advising McCain. You are responsible for the Palin debacle, we now know. If McCain had listened to Rove, and everyone else for that matter, we'd have Romney helping McCain with an economic stragegy, and we'd probably have MI, CO, and NV. Oh, but who cares about eletoral strategy, when you can have troopergate and winks and kisses?
BTW, Mr. Kristol. Palin isn't capable of taking off-the-cuff press questions and McCain knows it. Too bad you didn't do your homework on Palin and bother to notice she's a mental midget like we've never seen at this level.
I agree, McCain needs a bold move. Here it is. DROP Palin and install Romney. We'll pick up at least NV and CO, possibly MI.
The American people deserve a shot at someone who actually can solve this financila crisis with solid, free-market principles.

Invite Obama and Biden to a rally to make it more civil????
Bill Kristol turned out to be an idiot.
I think he is tired of playing Ed McMahon to the hosts of cable news. Apparently, he wants his own show and the only way to get it is to be controversial and try to impress the left-wing media.
Get in line, Bill. |
