Breaking: MI & FL Gov's Want Delegates Seated

MSNBC is reporting that Florida Governor Charlie Crist (R) and Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) have teamed up and asked that their delegates be seated.
The fact that these two governors are making a bi-partisan appeal makes this an interesting request. Of course, Granholm is a Hillary supporter and Crist is a Republican (and this is a DNC decision).
On the surface, it seems this would probably benefit Hillary. She's obviously been trying to get these delegates seated.

Other states have moved their primaries ahead--California in 1993, a group of Southern states before that, New York in 1996. Why should a political party decree when voters choose a nominee, as long as there's ample time before a convention? The very rules Howard Dean cites were put in place to orchestrate party politics. HIs party moved New York's primary ahead to benefit Bill clinton.
I'm amazed no one in media, none of the yack-heads on TV and none of the pundits on radio have cited precedent for this and asked why the political hoopla is occurring now.
There's a choir of voices saying Florida should've gone by the rules. We did. Our legislature set our primary date legally. Why should two states have permanent rights on the early primary?
They should seat the delegates. Florida ran a fair primary with correct names on the ballot for both parties. The amount of power vested in organizational structures for both political parties is not good for the country.best, KBD

Whichever candidate wins this argumentshould get the nomination. As Dick Moris argued, the best experience for any president is the battle for the whitehouse. Accordingly, if Hillary can outmuscle and outmanouver Obama in this battle, then she is more qualified to be commander in chief that he is. Why? Because the world stage is full of manouvering and outmanouvering and nobody remembers the looser because the winner gets to write History. Let's see if Obama's hope and change message includes "fighting for his right to be president". What a great example of when "diplomacy does not work". This makes the greater point that if Obama realizes diplomacy does not work at a party level when fighting for one's rights, it is a loosing strategy in the foreign policy and war on terror. Does Obama care to explain how diplomacy will work at a global level if he can't make it work at a party level? mmmmmmmmm bring the pop corn, this is too good! |

I am not sure if there is a law about this but I thought it was unfair for Party Rules to tramp individual voting rights in two states. I also think what the republican party did with penalities i.e. decreasing the number of delegates because state's moved up their primaries was UNFAIR and UNDEMOCRATIC. What is the best option for voters - to have every vote count! IF A PARTY CAN NOT CONDUCT GENERAL ELECTIONS SHOULD VOTERS TRUST THEM WITH LEADING THIS NATION? |

of "every vote counts so I demand a recount in FL" throwing this country into global shame of biblical proportions as americans listened with disgrace about chads and watched as multiple ballots were guarded by police until the FL supreme court made a decision about what would be counted and what would not be counted. If they could not stop this madness for love of country, am betting they will have even bigger chaos for love of political gain and little regard for the american election process. Democrats cheating in an election process? Noooooo, that would never ever happen. Who wants to guess if the supreme court will be involved? The good news is that this democrat race will finally take the place of "Bush cheated in FL" mantra as they say "Hillary cheated in FL" or is it "Obama cheated with superdelegates". Either one is fine with me. Vote american pride and vote McCain in the fall. |

I would love to see polls explaining the breakdown of Hillary's vote. I wonder how many republican votes she got this time around to help her win the nomination so McCain could possibly win the general election against her. |

You are spot on, friend. We really need to pull for Hillary to be the nominee. If she's the nominee, she'll be a great 'get out the vote' motivator for Republicans and independents.
And a great 'stay at home' motivator for angry Obama supporters. |

Team Clinton will angle to argue the following:
She didn't break any rules, she simply honored the entirety of the Democratic electorate. Obama quickly wrote them off. Why should he be honored for this?
Obama actually did participate. In Michigan, his campaign and its surrogates actively encouraged voters to select "Uncommitted". That he chose this negative strategy rather than Hillary's positive strategy is not her fault, it's his.
Clinton may opt to compromise with the GOP solution to the same problem. The GOP penalized states half of their delegates for holding primary contests "too early". She could "compromise" that half the delegates be seated at convention. That would provide 105 FL delegates and 78 MI delegates. Since Barrack did receive votes in both states, he would still get delegates, but Clinton would gain more ground – nearly coming even with him. Clinton could argue that based on the above two points, she played by the rules – as did the voters in those two states. Neither should be penalized by acting as if the votes cast in January somehow didn't mean anything. And by halving the delegates, the DNC is still penalizing the states and her contested "advantage" against Obama is getting muted. It's a pretty clever and convincing argument.

Democrats that they just can't follow the rules? The more I read and see, the more I agree with the statement "The children are in charge". |

MI and FL voters have a RIGHT to have their voices heard, and their votes count. Their rights should not be usurped by silly DNC rules.
Freedom of Speech! Right to be heard! Get the ACLU to roll in on this! |

Just you wait and see. This is a BRILLIANT strategy:
1) It will give Hillary the Dem nomination
2) It weakens Hillary's support in the general election b/c the Obama camp will claim a stolen nomination
3) It isolates Obama from sharing the ticket with Hillary
If this works, I wouldn't be surprised to see McCain award Crist with a VP spot or a seat in his Admin. |

If you can't win playing by the rules, change the rules.... |
|
|
If they wouldn't have changed thier primary dates, they would not have any problems. Follow the rules or shut up. As for the Goveners of Michigan and Florida........ again, shut up and mind your own business. This issue is between the DNC and the state parties. |
