Politico.com is now reporting the death of Walter Cronkite:
Their story notes the following:
Walter Cronkite, the broadcast giant known as "the most trusted man in America" during the golden age of television news, has died at the age of 92.
For a generation of Americans, the former CBS News anchor became the dominant face, voice and source of information during a chaotic and transformative period in American history, stretching from World War II through the emergence of the Reagan revolution.

he will be missed, but he WAS 92, had a wonderful and full life, and no one lives forever - no one! |
another leftie who won't be missed. Fortunately for america, another troll takes a dirt nap, good riddance |
My husband had the same reaction when he heard the news: "one less liberal in the world." Of course, at 92 he really couldn't do any more damage. |
"another leftie who won't be missed. Fortunately for america, another troll takes a dirt nap, good riddance"
Riders on the Storm: "My husband had the same reaction when he heard the news: "one less liberal in the world."
Nice. |
good lord. Look at the man's life, and tell me that he wasn't what we expect great Americans to be.
I cried when I heard the JFK death announcement replayed. I remember that none of us wanted to believe it was true...when "Uncle Walter" said it was, wow, about 5 days of mourning.
Good man. Great journalist. Great American. |
At least we didn't have a death watch like Huffpo did TWICE for Tony Snow.....
You folks got no room to talk about low....
Cronkite meant a lot to this country, but he was indeed a vile leftist..... |
and we remember the levels of hatred your trolls posted when tony snow died.
For the left they always consider themselves the authorities on everything.
But now we get to witness what the left is doing to this country.
Cronkite was just systematic of the left's idea they know whats best for everyone
And the current state of news coverage as seen onn bc, cbs, abc, cnn and msnbc shows how the media is little more than a cheerleaders for the dims in congress and for flap ears the clown.
Biased reporting is what the news long ago degenerated into and cronkite was one of the newsperson who led this change
Cronkite went for reporting the news to reporting his biased opinions about how things should be |
Yep---he was a good man---and a Leftie----which merely proves he neither was perfect nor did he think through his political positions. But---here's the difference between him----and the so-called "journalists" in the mainstream media today. Today, there are no newscasters, just a bunch of opinion reporters. They all inject their own feelings into the broadcast. Walter gave the news and for the most part left his personal feelings out of the broadcast.
Those days are dead and buried. |
The bell just rang, it's time for you to change your moniker. hurry up now, get along... |
Apparently, "Uncle Walter" had considerable more class & professionalism than all the current leftie "journalist" hacks put together.
My take is that Cronkite the "dovish" left-wing propagandist, was also instrumental in causing the USA to lose the Viet Nam War. I am sure we will be hearing more about Cronkite, etc, for a while, ad nauseum |
is the same problem I have with O'Reilly. He dressed up his opinion as "news".
What he'll be most remember for was declaring the Vietnam War "Lost" after the Tet Offensive. Well, the Tet Offensive was a crushing defeat for the communists. well, don't tell that to Uncle Walter, he threw in the towell... |
cronkite posed as a newsman
Oreilly is is a political commentator. Big difference |
I was in Vietnam during Tet of 68 (and 69) and it was exactly as the military forecasted: if the Vietcong came out of the woods, we would smash them like bugs; we did. After Tet, it was a rarity to encounter a VC unit, they were all NVA regulars. Got home after cleaning the VC's clocks to hear this sadsack declaiming our win, then blaming the casualties on the US while ignoring (literally) piles of bodies murdered by the communists in Hue. Screw him. |
Cronkite:
You enjoyed the benefits of a FREE country. Yet you, like the Democrat Communist Party that is in charge today, wants to deny FREEDOM to others. Yeah, you got yours..now to H**l with people coming after you.
You left this world just in time. If the Communist Obama gets his Healthcare Reform..you wouldn't have been able to get any medical treatment the last 20 years of your life.
Don't let the door hit you. |
Another leftist socialist with a mic! He just wasn't as caustic as todays wanks are. He never hid or lied about his liberalism like the phonies from the LSM, who today will be fawning and blubbering over the death of a 92 year old man.
I'll always remember his NIMBY moment with the windmills off the coast!
I agree with CWTA,E! He undermined the troops with the people back in the states!
Still to his family may he rest in peace. |
I'm sorry to hear Cronkite has died but come on, people, this guy got away with bloody murder (editorially speaking) for years.
"The most trusted man in America" was a hard-core left winger. Cronkite turned American public opinion against the war in Vietnam and gave legitimacy to draft-dodgers and the protests that followed. Most Americans were too naive to see his bias when he was on the air.
After he retired Cronkite openly bashed conservatives at every opportunity. |
I don't believe in trashing the man. May he rest in peace. He sure was not going to give us any peace here. But I saw where he denied he had any impact on Vietnam, as if that were irrelevant. It should have bothered his conscience anyway.(?) I can try to ignore his other comments since. As is the way of liberalism, sooner or later it all goes to their head - then explodes. |
I guess you only know its important if Geraldo splatters himself all over it. (running into the studio, ” I knew the guy pretty well and…”) I was grateful that didn’t happen, right away at least. |
O'Reilly makes it clear that his show is opinion on the news not news . Cronkite never made the distinction ,and you're statement concerning the Tet Offensive is spot on . For that alone Cronkite should not be revered |
.... for Eugene is at least O'reilly will face his opposition, and explain his view. ( often ad nauseum with anyone who disagrees with him) |
today for those shallower enough to listen there is cutie katie not posing as a news reporter but showing the depths to which reporting has sun k.
And we see how a speech writer(?) for old jimmah cahtah, of one chrissy matthews has become one who talks of his homo erotic fantasies for the fraud posing as president.
Seems the media long ago threw away the simple motto of jack webb, as sgt friday. Just the facts maam.
But if the msm wants to revive their former profession they need only start reporting all the scandals surrounding the congressional dims and all the associates and mentors of flap ears the clown.
But then how could mr maddow stop her reasopn for living. If she couldn't talk about her lesbian life and hatred of bush she wouldn't have a job
The lefties thus idolize uncle walter, he set them on the path to what they are today |
“And we see how a speech writer(?) for old jimmah cahtah, of one chrissy matthews has become one who talks of his homo erotic fantasies for the fraud posing as president.”
You are right on the mark here. They say you cannot go from journalism to politics -- or so associates told Cranky. However, the trend is the reverse: go from politics to “journalism”! So ACCEPTABLE today – and there is no loss of credibility, only gain as they refashion themselves into a tool. Thanks for pointing that out. I’m even okay about punditry, but journalism/anchoring a show? That is so “Not ready for prime time” – oops that IS prime time today
Obamessiah blathers on per script: "Walter was always more than just an anchor," the president said. "He was someone we could trust to guide us through the most important issues of the day; a voice of certainty in an uncertain world. He was family. He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down. This country has lost an icon and a dear friend, and he will be truly missed"

So Barry admires talent. No surprise, the goal of most Marxists is aspire to be a "trusted voice" to tell people when to jump old, outdated and capitalistic ideas. After they gird up their own resources and power, of course, close the door before the peasants find their way inside.
What a shame, another infamous person whose void Obama must attempt to fill. He was in the press booth at the All-Star game days ago, so it’s a natural step. Mirror mirror: “I’m am now the most believable, trusted person and president too ….they shall do as I say” The evidence here is Barry now compares himself to Cronkite’s notoriety.
flap ears also said yesterday, don't bet against me.
He seems to think that his thuggery will prevail no maytter what.
But just like lil mikey the molester's death took the spotlight off the dims during cap and trade, flap ears has unca wally's death as a buffer this week.
But it remains to be seen who death, either naturally or by some heinous manner will ride to the dominate the news and take some attention away from flap ears. That is until he can find a way to use it to enhance his shallow self esteeem |
Spare me your childish neologisms and I'll spare you my false grief. The man was a leftist who routinely injected his opinion into the reporting of the news. Oh, I forgot, bias only applies to conservatives, liberals have "empathy." And, of course, they are right about everything.
I don't care if he was considered the most trusted man in America, his ideas were wrong. Here's a parallel: unbeknown to you, someone put rat poison in your dog food storage container. You, unwittingly and with no malice aforethought, feed it to your dog. Your dog dies despite your good intentions. Some liberals may have good intentions, and even be upright in their personal lives, but their ideas are still poison.
Beside that, Cronkite lived a long life and had more notoriety than he deserved. For what, sitting in front of a TV camera and reading a teleprompter? (What is it with you liberals worshiping teleprompter readers?) My father-in-law who is a physician has done more good for the world; my cousins who are cops have done more good for the world; Dr. Sowell and Dr. Walter Williams have done more good for the world. Enough with the cultural icon nonsense. |
who helped save young american lives when he helped stopped the Vietnam war? Who reported the news each night, and made sure we knew what was an opinion and what wasn't, unlike all of our MSM and cable sources now (aside from PBS and BBC America)?
He lived a grand, grand life, full of pis-s and vinegar, full of happiness and sadness. RIP Uncle Walter...and that is the way it is. Many of us have missed your even tempered words...one of my first thoughts on 9/11 was how would Walter have handled it. With aplomb, perspective, and dignity. |
"a vile leftist? who helped save young american lives when he helped stopped the Vietnam war? Who reported the news each night, and made sure we knew what was an opinion and what wasn't, unlike all of our MSM and cable sources now (aside from PBS and BBC America)?"
Actually, more Americans died after the Tet Offensive (where he declared the war "lost") than before... In fact, it was because of defeatists like him, that the Communists thought they had a chance of winning this thing..
The Tet offensive was in fact a profound failure. The Viet Cong organization was crushed (the war was fought by NVA regulars after that), and the North Vietnamese leaders were despondant. Then Conkrite and the other media types started declaring the war as "unwinnable".
.....who abused his position of trust to falsely portray the war in Vietnam as a losing proposition....thus causing the U.S. to forfeit a sure victory and causing the deaths of millions of Vietnamese.....
I'll give you the second paragraph.
I thought you were too good to come in here lonny. What happened? Did you finally realize you're not so bitchen after all......? |
Quite true. Welcome back to the sane side. |
like Vietnam, Lebanon, Iraq...unwinnable. |
....to the citizens of the new democratic republic of Iraq.
We would be having parades for our returning troops if not for you blind lefties who refuse to accept victory.
You live in your own spite-filled world. What was it? did all the persona required by "crooning" result in deep and unexamined conflicts?
Oops. I violated my "psychobabble" rule. Still, you really are a nasty piece of work. Just goes to show the truth of the old adage that Jesus changes nothing. If a man is a jerk before he knew Jesus, he will be a jerk afterwards. And if he becomes a good guy after knowing Jesus, then the truth is he was okay before knowing him.
But you, sir, phew..when it comes to the big picture, everyone is to blame except you and those like you. |
The North Vietnamese communists owe so much to Cronkite.
General Giap, the architect of the NVA victory, has acknowledged that their triumph was due in no small measure to our traitors, chief among them is Walter Cronkite. Instead of reporting truthfully the devastating repulse of the communist offensive by our troops, instead he colored it as a major American setback.
Without him, and with a supportive media, the rest of the country probably would have been heartened by our decisive Tet victory and galvanized to see the war through to a favorable resolution just as in Korea. Instead, domestic opposition built, morale fell and our withdrawal resulted in a staggering blow to our national prestige and millions of Vietnamese and eventually Cambodians slaughtered.
Despite all their self congratulating verbiage to the contrary, the leftist lib cowards can claim no moral high ground there anymore than they can in imposing their rotten redistribution initiatives on us now.
As to Cronkite, a fitting tribute would be that his body be sent to Vietnam where the commies would be most happy and grateful to enbalm and display him in their war museum. |
For those who don't know: Cronkite is an Americanization of the German word, Krankheit-- illness or disease.
My family and I always respected him and watched his broadcasts faithfully. We were disappointed when he went against the Vietnam war, but we thought he must know something. I was watching a special he hosted, when he ended a show by saying "Well, the rich will get richer, and the poor, poorer." It threw me for a loop! Why was this rich guy quoting Marx, unless he is one of the leftist elite? Then his Vietnam position made sense now. He was a hidden Commie, and hated this country, so much that he wanted us to loose the war. Not surprising in itself that the main news outlets and people tried to do the same thing with the war on terror (Iraq). Rest in Disgrace! Red Walter!

During my 2 tours in Vietnam, the only person I thought less of was Jane Fonda. Cronkite turned America against the war and did it behind his MSM generated title of "The Most Trusted Man In America". During that period there were many cowards in our country and Cronkite and his ilk gave them cause and cover. He has been harmless now for years so his passing is a family matter; I will pay less attention to it than I did Michael Jackson.Put him in his wooden box and let him return to dust quietly. |

Directly across from this statement is an ad featuring Pinky Reid, Obamination, and Bela Pelosi. Only one missing is "Tell-all" Joe Biden |

arch says
As far as I am concerned, he can rot in hell. He was a libtard scum bordering on communist. I remember as a kid watching him give the news and thought him a gas bag zero- nothing. No balls. No brain. No patriotism! Walter Cronkite, rot in hell!! |
To borrow a phrase from the Dems playbook. "Uncle Walter Lied, (Tet) lots of people died." Just in case you believe he was the consumate newsman that never allowed show biz in a newscast, I refer you to the program he anchored before he was the most trusted man in America. It was titled "You are there" and as he used to say at the close of that show ... and that's the way it was....sound familiar? |
Both Holland and Sweden have newscaters. Although I have never seen one, I do imagine that they are not so different from what we see today in the USA: Some talking head sharing the events of the day, locally, nationally, internationally. And, they are given a name, these talking heads. When I learned of what they are called in these two countries, it merely brought a chuckle;
Both Holland and Sweden call their newscasters, you got it:
"Cronkiters" |
Although I have long known that Walter was a Liberal, I was unaware that he had been very close friends with George Looney's father. Even George Looney himself maintained that close friendship as he grew into adulthood. The Leftist banter in those dialogues was a certainty. |
End of an era, and I mean it. Now, judging by my previous posts, you can't list me as a bleeding heart craphead Marxist, and Walter Cronkite was, finally, that, BUT...you didn't KNOW it! That was the difference between him and the current crop of crapheads daring to call themselves journalists today. We suspected it, but it wasn't confirmed until he blew his cool over Tet. Most unfortunate, that, because it signaled the change in journalism from "just the facts, Ma'am" to "I'll tell you the facts, Ma'am," and the subsquent downhill slide of the media. But, he will always be the quintessential anchor, as far as I'm concerned. He will always be the soul of the space program, the guy who was just as excited as I was when John Glenn and Cooper and Grissom and then Armstrong all went on their historic missions. He's gone, and the last of what America used to be, goes with him. |
Who made up that line anyway? The people who helped make him so popular. His take on the Vietname war was repulsive. I was a young cop then, fighting the anti-war protesters, dopers and commies and resented his willingness to fan the fires of the times. He was complicit in the deaths of literally millions of Viets and Cambodians when we deserted them in the wake of people like him, Haden, Fonda assisting the Communist Party with their lies. You want to know who was a real newscaster? His name was Edward R. Murrow. Farther back it was Gabreal Heater. Cronkite was the fad at the time and has become meaningless since his retirement. That did not however, stop him from spouting his own brand of propaganda. I will not mourn him. |
Pompous and foolish. Who made him such an authority?
Thank God for alternate sources of news! |
