Anyone can read speeches written for them |
|
|
Of course a writer creates most of the words but same as an artist etc., they draw upon the subjects life, appearance and mindset! Like dancers are only as good as their music, a writer depends on subjects input and their style and attitude, then personalizes the speech! Go Sara of all trades, ha! Ex Democrat |
|
|
One was read well enough, the other was barely tolerable. Sarah can't be totally blamed for the lies (AP wrote about the lies, btw), but she's a slick prompter reader. McCain got a D for delivery and a D for content. Slow week, complete with mean, disingenuous rhetoric, mocking stupidity and a sea of goofy hats and "sexist" "Hot VP" buttons - The hypocrisy of the current "sexism" meme from the right has not gone unnoticed, btw. |
|
That is a risk I have to live with. McCain has his Mavericky streak. He does make mistakes. He gets the big things right, but he is far from perfect. But then again I could go with Obama-Biden who are consistently wrong on everything.
So I pick McCain-Palin. |
|
"change I can live with."
As I said, how do you know he won't switch back. His current positions are ones he's arrived at over years. If he switches them now for the sake of political expediency, it'll be even easier to switch back after the election. Especially since he's warmed up with all those other flips and flops. |

I had the same reaction--like wouldn't someone had dry run the slide presentation first to see what the backgrounds would look like on TV? Nuts, but hey, mistakes happen. Fix them. With the nature of McCain's speech a completely neutral background would have been better (I mean come on he is on a stage that looks like the face dial of a Movado watch).
As for the O'Bama vs. O'Reilly, Fox must have run it early because I waited all night for it and it never came. I started watching just before McCain came on live. I am sure I can catch it tonight. But given McCain's ratings were so high and the only thing I am hearing that Obama praised the surge--I am not so sure that interview worked for him. Talking about "O", I don't think Oprah's dis of Gov. Palin is a very smart move either (both for herself and Obama). Expect the View to take advantage of that (and of course while the View is a fairly hostile venue, Ms. Hasselbeck will be there to fight back too). |
|
Abandoning Lieberman's foolish cap and trade (which will only cost American consumers and not help CO2 emissions anyway) is change I can live with. Having the common sense to explore for oil in a safe and responsible manner in ANWR is also change I can live with.
It may be past Labor Day, but those are flip flops McCain can wear proudly. |
|
"I hope he starts explaining how he is going to energize the economy, lower taxes, and promote a new energy policy."
Shouldn't he have done that last night?
"I also predict an eventually pivot on ANWR and a gradual move away on cap and trade."
By "pivot" and "gradual move" I take it you mean "flip-flop." If he changes his position on these things in the next two months, how do you know he won't change it again in the two months after that?
Much as he has on Roe v. Wade, Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, campaign finance, torture, ethanol, MLK Day, affirmative action, equal pay for women, the new GI bill, windfall profits taxes, privatizing social security, offshore drilling, and the estate tax. |

If you lose your country?
Many of us see another amnesty as the end of the Republic, the stampede it will set off will be overwhelming. If we don't stop the inundation none of the rest matters. We'll be a banana republic before the jihadis can get us. There will never be another GOP president or Congressional majority. Importing voters for the socialists is as stupid as it gets.
McCain keeps saying "Secure the border first". We know that he means amnesty next. The plan is to get the border state Gov's to declare the border secure. Conveniently, they are all on board the cheap labor express. They'll sign off on Jan. 21. Then his good friend Ted Kennedy will bring back McCain/Kennedy and McCain can provide his good friends across the aisle with their new permanent majority.
I will not vote for amnesty.

I really am shocked that no one thinks McCain did a fabulous job. I was NOT a McCain supporter and I am still not sure I will be - I don't like that he likes cap and trade; I don't like his belief that global warming is man made and therefore, we need to "do" something; I DEFINATELY don't like his open border bent BUT, I thought he was the most animated and sincere that I've ever heard him.
I've never heard him speak at length on his time as a POW nor have I heard him speak as long as he did - I was satisfied that he acquitted himself with vigor and resolve.
As I stated earlier, I don't like his nod to the environmental nut bags who are pushing man made global warming (which of course, leads to cap and trade) nor do I like or understand how he can keep our borders open to Mexico BUT, when it comes to understanding and agressively pursuing the Wahabbist Muslim terrorists and Bin Laden "to the gates of hell", there is no reason to doubt he won't do it.
Compared to the tuck-tail and run attitude of the Democrats, I will pull the lever for him because if we don't win against the terrorists, the rest is moot. |
|
Boring. Interrupted too much by the sheep in the crowd who were trying to pump themselves up for the tv.
I liked his stance on the war, taxes, and fixing the schools.
I don't like the govt program to train workers.
I must have missed him bragging about his major legislation that he worked on with the Libs in the other party. Also, I didn't hear him talk about border security when he talked about keeping us safe. Nor did he mention all the illegals who steal jobs and healthcare while he was talking about helping the American workers and families.
|
|
You simply CANNOT have national security if you will not defend your own borders or enforce your own laws. Foreign nationals numbering in the thousands are entering our country at will daily. John McCain has done and will do NOTHING to stop it. Don't believe me? Ask Juan Hernandez!
Smiling Juan Hernandez In case you don't know him, he used to work for the Mexican govt., lately he has been shilling for "rights" for illegal aliens in this country. He has said he wants Mexicans to remain Mexicans even if they are living here. His loyalties are to Mexico, not U.S. His agenda is "Mexico First", he's on McCain's campaign, so it's a fair question to ask,
Which Country First?

Get a CLUE!!!!
Just because we dislike McCain doesn't mean we like OBAMA!!!
You Morons!!!! |
|
|
|
RCN: Which one has NEVER vote for a tax increase?
GB: Which one voted against a tax cut?
RCN: Which one has NEVER taken an earmark?
GB: Good question. Can you prove that Mac NEVER took an earmark?
RCN: Which one will appoint constitutional judges to the Supreme Court?
GB: Possibly neither one.
RCN: As for immigration, McCain is for amnesty, yeah we get that, but so was Ronald Reagan, and I bet you guys like him pretty good too.
GB: Yeah, Reagan learned from his mistake. McCain didn't!!!!
RCN: Al Queda is more dangerous than mexicans looking for work.
GB: True, BUT both can just walk across the border.
RCN: Immigration is an important issue, but it is second tier to National Security,
GB: Clue here RCN!!! Immigration is not independent from National Security!!!
Do you think the 9-11 attacks came from natives? DUH!! |
|
McCain may not be such a great speaker but he comes across as sincere and honest. I can tell that he truly believes what he says and will fight for what he believes in. Even though his oratory is not as good as O's he certainly is an improvement over the fumbling idiotic stylings of Bush. McCain looks confident and not like a deer in headlights. On the other hand, I feel like I'm being sold a bill of goods with Obama. He might package it up nicely with a pretty bow but I don't think he sounds sincere and says what is politically expedient. Most of all, he doesn't have the track record that makes me believe he is capable of doing what he promises. I don't believe I am alone in this and maybe too much is being made of speaking style this election, which could back fire on Obama. |
|
If Bush has been a "C+ president," then it makes sense that McCain would get a B.
Did anyone make a list of the solid, concrete proposals that McCain made in his speech? I'll attach my list below:
. |
|
Well Duh!!
But, can anyone seriously doubt that his presidency will be better for the country than Obama.
Obama is the most liberal candidate, maybe ever, for the presidency of the United States.
For goodness sakes, of the two which one is going to be a better Commander In Chief?
Which one is solidly prolife?
Which one has NEVER vote for a tax increase?
Which one has NEVER taken an earmark?
Which one will appoint constitutional judges to the Supreme Court?
As for immigration, McCain is for amnesty, yeah we get that, but so was Ronald Reagan, and I bet you guys like him pretty good too.
Al Queda is more dangerous than mexicans looking for work. But you will say illegals have killed more people than Al Queda. Well sure, but Al Queda wants to kill them thousands at a time.
Immigration is an important issue, but it is second tier to National Security, Issues of human life, and Controllling The growth of government.
Va Pat and Gunnie,
Do you seriously think this country could endure 4 or more years of Obama?
He will set the pro life agenda back 25 years if gets to appoint any justices to the Supreme Court.
Everybody pays more taxes under obama, the economy tanks, and he will get pushed around by AhminaJihad, and putsin.
The world is too dangerous a place for Barack Obama to become president. It is just that simple. |
|
Cut down on the coffee! Honestly, all of that stomping of the feet will do nothing but give you more gray hair.
PC, yup, you are right. I agree completely. T. Boone Pickens is leading a public movement:

You are funny!
Mac's biggest problem is his own HARD head!!!
He has to be POUNDED HARD to get him to get a clue when he is WRONG (think McCain Kennedy).
You admit that Mac is wrong on ANWR. Why is he so STUPID and hardheaded when is comes to ANWR?
Do you think he can reach across the aisle and get ANWR opened to drilling?
Why do conservatives have to work so hard to get it through Mac's THICK head? |
|
We don't need Palin to make the case for drilling. A huge majority of Americans already want to drill.
|
|
Palin does not change McCain. He's still unacceptable to me. Don't look for any improvement. You're supposed to be happy that he picked her and vote for him even as he shows you the knives he's sharpening for your back. If you want to hang out with like minded actual conservatives, look here:
http://viewfromtheisland.blogtownhall.com/default.aspx |
|
ummm whatever, your vote isn't worth it, go vote obama if ya like
|
|
Joe, I agree McCain needs to concede ANWR drilling is now in this country's best interest. Sarah will make that case extremely well to America.
I like how in Obama's speech he said his energy plan includes more natural gas.... somebody forgot to tell him natural gas is in the ground, and you have to DRILL for it.
|
|
After Palin's speech I was ready to pull the lever for Mac.
BUT!!!
Mac convinced me last night NOT to vote for him!!! |
|
So you admit that
1) Mac is a deceiver?
2) Is wrong on the issues and knows it but will S L O W L Y change to the right position?
3) Palin is a throw away to the conservatives? She is just eye candy for the right?
And we are suppose to vote for him based on your predictions of the future?
If Mac wants my vote he better start changing, he only has 8 weeks to change and convince me it is a sincere change.
Good luck with that. |
|
That reaching across the isle talk was not for you, it was for uncommitted Dems and Indies who think Barack may be bad but do not want four more years of Bush. That is also why he emphasized why he hates war. Because that is where the election is going to turn.
He picked Palin for you.
I hope he starts explaining how he is going to energize the economy, lower taxes, and promote a new energy policy. I also predict an eventually pivot on ANWR and a gradual move away on cap and trade. |
|
What were you smoking?
It was more like C- !!!
Mac just can't give up his liberalism. As I have said before, he has no principles, only a process.
His process is to reach across the aisle to get something done. Things, that more often than not, that should NOT get done.
This "do something even if it is wrong" thing is only slightly less worse than what Obama wants to do.
Mac should either shut up and let Sarah take over or step down and let her take over.
Sheesh!!! This election cycle sucks!!!!! |
|
|
Initial results look good for McCain. Obama dropped 5 on Intrade and McCain rose 5. |
|
|
And the end of his speech was excellent. It was not excellent oratory--it was just excellent. He met expectations (which were not high) and more importantly distinguishmed himself. I know a lot of Indies who fear more GOP warmongering and who are turned off to political rancor. McCain was smart to focus on those issues. |
|
|
|
And for those who oppose amnesty, an F.
McCain is still stuck on stupid (amnesty).
When will someone tell him that illegal aliens are illegal aliens not migrants? |
|
Damn Matt, did you, Hugh, Amanda and others stay up late at the open bar? :)
Yeah, I'd give it a B. He didn't have to wow anyone, Palin is doing the energizing. Mack only needs to sell his character as sincere, honorable, honest, and will never quit the fight for what is right.
Country First!
