The Flu and the Festival
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 5:15 PM
A deadly flu virus with a strange genetic make-up has claimed 60 lives in Mexico and has officials there taking extraordinary steps to contain it.

A CDC official says it is still fine to travel to Mexico, but if the outbreak isn't contained quickly, expect even more stress on the Mexican tourism industry already buffeted by concerns over the drug war raging there.  CDC also reported that it could not confirm that the Mexico flu was the same strain as found in more than a half dozen cases in the U.S. in recent days.

Tomorrow I'll be at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books for an 12:30 panel on "Broken Government" in Broad 2160 and will be signing books at the KRLA booth after my panel sometime around 1:30.  Perhaps some early owners of The Fair Tax Fantasy will be there.

My pal Bill Lobdell, whose book Losing My Religion is the recipient of a great review in the upcoming Sunday New York Times, will be speaking at 3:30 in the Korn Convocation Hall and signing books thereafter.

Bienvenidos!
"A CDC official says it is still fine to travel to Mexico.."
If anyone had the cojones to go to Mexico with all the drug wars going on, the kidnappings taking place daily, and the risk of contracting TB, then a little Swine-Bird Flu isn't going to stop him!
Ole!

Samples? No se.
Those samples discovered missing at Ft. Detrick last week? The ones they say were likely destroyed? The ones they say were Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis?

Don't worry about those.

The Mexicans have brought scores
of diseases into the US. What's one more? It's one too freaking many, that's what it is! The borders should be SLAMMED shut, and anyone caught crossing into this country illegally should be made to wish he/she had never, ever had a desire to break and defy our laws and sneak in here illegally like the low life coward he is.

Only An Idiot
would go to Mexico.
I try to avoid Mexicans whenever I can--I don't want to catch some dread disease!

Hey Hewitt,
enough already with this Lobdell guy, who cares what he says or writes. Enough! You gotta' stake in the sales or something. He's boring....

Why doesn't the church say "NO"
to the pro-abortionist who claims to be Catholic?

I consider it to be partly the fault of the Church if Kennedy becomes Ambassador to the Vatican. Why don't they deny all the so-called Catholics such as Caroline Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi and Kathleen Sebelius from receiving Communion because of their stance on abortion? I would think they should since they 'claim' to be anti-abortion.

I heard that the Director of the Vatican’s press office, Fr. Federico Lombardi denied the Vatican has rejected Caroline Kennedy's candidacy for the job of U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See. It makes one wonder just how DEVOUT the church heads actually are.

Kennedy claims to be pro abortion, AND a devout Catholic. In my estimation, that should be considered an oxy moron.

Where's the State Dept
or the DHS on this?

Shouldn't travel restrictions be in place, yesterday? Ought not the border be closed down, NOW? How about quarantine?

One of my all-time favorite books, Stephen King's 'The Stand', couldn't be more timely, though obviously I don't believe the situation will be quite that dire, Randall Flagg notwithstanding. ;)

Thank you Obama.

It has crossed into the U.S.
"Pandemic potential" is how it is evaluated by the CDC.
