During last week's debate John McCain's suggested “spending freeze” was mocked by Obama who said that would be like “using a sledge hammer when you need a scalpel.”
On a conference call today, Rudy Giuliani countered that, in fact, "...we need a sledgehammer to a budget that's out of control."
Mayor Giuliani also, responding to one of my questions, said he personally overheard McCain phoning Republican Members of Congress who told McCain they were voting for the bailout specifically because he asked them to. Giuliani said McCain "participated" in moving the numbers from four Republicans to sixty-five Republicans in support of the bailout.
Regarding Gwen Ifill, Giuliani said: "All my experiences with her have been very positive." He also described her as an, "honest, decent journalist." Giuliani added, however, that if a moderator had written a book titled, "Politics in the Age of McCain," that the media would cry foul.

That I thought was the most important item for the debate, yet I heard nothing in the news since then or a McCain ad promoting it. |
Given that the bailout is such a non-conservative solution, why haven't we got consensus on this as yet?
We need the line item veto for the Pres. We need Rudy to run homeland security. We Mitt Romney to run the Treasury We need Petreaus to run Defense We need Duncan Hunter to be Secretary of State

for the GOP so far, hasn't it? And leave it to Rudy, friend and soulmate of "light touch" Bernie Kerik, to suggest digging the hole deeper through bully tactics. |
He can't vote against it, although I wish he would. The media would chew him up into little pieces. |
I would like to see McCain vote AGAINST the bail out.....he needs another game changer....please mr Mccain? Give the conservatives some more read meat! |
The dems are stopping @ nothing to get their people out for Obama. Where are all the powerful Republicans who need to get out there on the campaign trail for McCain? Please, for the sake of our Country, let's get out there and get things stirred up!!!!! That includes you Donald Trump! You can't stop with the endorsement. Catherine |

Good call...I had actually been thinking defense for Rudy but that is a good idea too. |
To use on McCain's head. He doesn't seem to get it. |
Fer crissakes, if McCain does pull it out, we need someone like Rudy for Treasury
Obama's scalpal comment had to be one of the more revealing from the debate. We've got a huge deficit, and a debt that could grow by another $700B, and he responded that we need a scalpal and more spending on "under funded" programs.
This Republican POTUS and Congress (when it was) have been crazy spenders, but McCain is one who has fought the good fight. |

The budget needs to have hugh chunks cut off in large money dripping gobs. |

It is ridiculous!

How quickly Republicans have dusted off their fiscal conservative rhetoric and how brazen they are about using it with George "Spend like a Drunken Democrat" Bush still in office. |
