The truth is most women are catty and jealous. Ask any one working in countless offices around America. I even see it on conservative websites. Women should be proud of Sarah Palin instead I think they are jealous because she is smart, confident, honest, content and attractive. Women can't stand a strong, confident, attractive woman in their midst. They need to grow up and act like humans if they want to compete in the real world for jobs and credibility. I speak as a professional woman who is college educated and worked in the business world for 25 years. |

[Perhaps you should list the top 5 accomplishments of Obama according to your observations and let us counter.]
One, we're discussing how the media at large treats politicians on the local and national stage, so this would be a tangent without relevance to the conversation.
Two, because I am opposed to Sarah Palin, in particular, and the GOP (right now) in general, this does not mean I am for Barack Obama. He is a typical liberal politician. (Not a stealth commie or Muslim, not a neo-Hitler, not some crazed conspirator in a scheme reaching back 50 years to forge documents, etc.) He's just been a fairly conventional Democrat listening to the Keynesian school of economics that has ruled our leaders for the last 30 - 40 years.
I am opposed, above all, to nonsense regardless of which party it comes from, because it's usually meant not to inspire debate and reason from the polity, but to sew discord and stir us all up along party lines.
And I'm sorry, but trying to save and rehabilitate Sarah Palin's bizarre decision by making a claim that the treatment she received by the press was somehow more unfair and more intense than other national politicans is nonsense, as a look at any President or Presidential candidate will reveal.
She did something that, unless she reveals a good reason at some point down the road, disqualified her from national office in my mind. Not that that matters to her, as she has legions of fans which will never give up their image of St. Sarah, who was too beautiful for this world and whom the evil media crucified after John McCain (or Steve Schmidt) betrayed her for 30 pieces of silver. |

I think it's reality and it's a given, people just accept that she's going to be under a sharper microscope. So be it. Work harder, prove to yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate. That's what she wants us to believe at this point. So it bothers me a little bit to hear her bring that attention to herself on that level.

So threatened by a strong female that held differing world views on many subjects than themselves that they had to pull together all the resources they could muster (politicians, news anchors, talk show hosts, mainstream media including newspapers, TV ,the internet and even the legal system) to bash and ridicule this success of a lady. This lady who is someone's wife, someone's daughter and someones' mom just had to be discredited as she actually dared to become engaged in issues that affected her and her family and accomplish things outside of the status quo liberal ideal of how a woman should get ahead. This fine example of a person who is a working mom, who values life, who has done nothing but positive for her constituents her entire short public service career could not be allowed to display the example of female conservatism, one that differs from the feminism the leftwingnuts want to push on us as the only true feminism. So insecure in their own beliefs that they had to pummel a person who has the confidence of her convictions.
I personally have no stake or opinion on what Palin decides to do in the future. I just know it discredits and cheapens our whole nation and political system for someone to be treated the way she was because of their race, religion, national origin or GENDER.

What you see as "quitting" (or, more precisely, what you're attempting to characterize in a torturous fashion as "quitting") is actually a pretty strong drive to complete her education, however long it took, no matter if she had to parade around in a bathing suit and blow on a flute to obtain a scholarship so she could do so.

Nothing in his duties as Senator says he can't also run for President. Once he was elected, his oath as a Senator required him to resign that position. The same was true, for example, for Jerry Ford. When he was nominated for VP by Nixon and confirmed, his oath to uphold the Constitution required him to give up his House seat. Nothing voluntary about it in either case.
If you're going to claim that any elected official who runs for higher office while serving is violating his oath of office, you won't find many people agreeing with you. It's standard practice, something the Founding Fathers expected. Heck, some of them did it themselves. |

One of those duties is to uphold the Constitution; in fact, it's right there in the oath. Viewed in this light, Palin's decision to resign is consistent with all she has told us about her view of "public service."
As Governor, she was constantly assailed with ethics complaints (15 thus far investigated and dismissed) with no end in sight. Some accounts have put the time she had to spend defending against those frivolous charges at 80% of her time. (Morris says that Clinton spent most of his time dealing with or complaining about the personal issues he had (all of his own doing -- quite unlike Palin) rather than conducting the country's business.) Further, those frivolous ethics complaint have already cost Alaskan taxpayers over two million dollars -- again, with no end in sight.
Now, if Palin truly believes that she is a "public servant" who is charged with conducting the people's business and finds herself in a position (through no fault of her own) where she cannot effectively discharge that duty -- AND knows that by simply "passing the ball" to another who CAN, how could she, in good conscience, continue to take the pay of the good people of Alaska? |

She wasn't "run out of office" by anyone. She chose to leave office so that she could more effectively fight the good fight.
While governor, she was tied to the state of Alaska. Further, she was forced, by the ethics laws she championed, to constantly spend her time defending herself and could neither effectively govern nor spread her message.
Now, unencumbered by office and constant attacks she must spend her time defending, she can bring the fight to the left. She believes that she can be more effective for the conservative cause (as opposed to the Republican cause) in this manner and thus has resigned to pursue a "higher calling."
Had she resigned to become VP (a "higher calling" albeit only a political one) or to accept a cabinet position, no one would have raised an eyebrow, let alone accused her of being "run off" or having "deserted her post." But, when she resigned to pursue what she believes is a higher calling -- to more effectively advocate for the causes in which she believes, she's assailed from all sides.

I’m confused by all the confusion among the chattering classes about Palin. I thought her press conference explained it very clearly – though she couldn’t put it precisely this way without sounding vain, but it’s obvious.
Even though she’s just a state governor, she’s a HUGE national star who is both sought after and attacked as if she is already a president (a Bush, not an Obama). But she basically can’t participate because she’s tethered to the governor’s office up in Alaska. Consequently, she has to fight with one hand tied behind her back and she also can’t go around the country campaigning for candidates and principles she believes in – because she’s governor and would be accused of neglecting the state.
Meanwhile, the Lt. Gov. is a great guy, so she’s leaving the state in good hands and now she can go on to be an even bigger star.
It’s a weird Washington insider perspective to be perplexed by what she’s doing. Contrary to Mark Sanford’s e-mails to his mistress, no one was really impressed with him; 99.99999999999999999% of Americans didn’t know who he was. Who is more influential: Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and Bill O’Reilly, or Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal and Mark Sanford (before the fall)? As Palin said, God bless people who run for political office, but – and she didn’t say this part – she’s too big to be a lame-duck governor stuck dealing with fishing licenses in Anchorage right now.
She’ll be much bigger now and can play on the national stage without constantly setting off state ethics investigations by loons, parasites and liberals. None of this applied to McCain or Kerry – both of whom went back to the Senate – because their national campaigns diminished them. Palin’s national campaign made her a major star. As she said, she’s not retreating, she’s advancing in another direction.

If the Demoncrats had any brains they would have left this women alone. what's WRONG with these people?
some things just cannot be respected. among them are politicians who play to the resentments of the people. and when these politicians confirm our suspicions and reveal themselves as low rent, low character, and unfit for high office, how can reasonably good people do anything other than chortle and celebrate?!
