The Spending Plan is Out
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 11:48 AM
I just got a copy of the $825 billion spending plan outlined by the Democratic-controlled House Appropriations Committee.

It is frightening.

Take a looksee here if you don't believe me.

The highlights of this bill, allegedly crafted to save us from the Wall Street crisis but is obviously being used to fund every hail Mary liberal, entitlement cause under the sun, includes:

(Note, anything I put it quotes is because A. it comes directly from the memo and B. it's so vague and/or ridiculous I don't know what it actually means.  And, no this is NOT the full list. This is a PORTION. )

-$6 billion to weatherize "modest income homes."
-$6 billion to provide internet in "underserved" areas
-$6 billion for "higher education modernization."
-$20 billion in health information technology to "prevent medial mistakes."
-$20 billion to increase food stamp funding
-$87 billion to provide a "temporary" increase in Medicaid funding
-$300 million to provide rebates for people who purchase Energy Star products
-$600 million for the federal government to buy brand new energy efficient cars
-$400 million for state and local governments to buy brand new energy efficient cars
-$2.4 billion for carbon capture demonstration programs
-$350 million to research using energy efficient technology on military bases
-$300 million for grants and loans to state and local governments for projects that reduce diesel emissions, "benefiting public health and reducing global warming"
-$500 million for energy efficient manufacturing demonstration projects.
-$400 million to build major research facilities "that perform cutting edge science"
-$1.5 billion for expanding "good jobs in biomedical research"
-$400 million "to put more scientists to work doing climate change research"
-$600 million for satellite development and acquisitions, including climate sensors and climate modeling.
-$250 million "to address long-term economic distress in urban industrial cores and rural areas distributed based on need and ability to create jobs and attract private investment."
-$650 million to continue the coupon program to enable American households to convert from analog television transmission to digital transmission.
-$300 million for the National Wildlife Refuges and National Fish Hatcheries
-$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts
-$400 million for "ready-to-go habitat restoration projects"
-$2 billion to provide child care services for an additional 300,000 children in low-income families while their parents go to work.
-$120 million to provide subsidized community service jobs to an additional 24,000 low-income older Americans
-$1.5 billion to help local communities build and rehabilitate low-income housing using green technologies.
-$500 million to rehabilitate and improve energy efficiency at some of the over 42,000 housing units maintained by Native American housing programs
-$10 million for "rural, high-need areas to undertake projects using sustainable and energy-efficient building and rehabilitation practices"

Hmmmmm....
So what have we learned in 2 millennia?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

All I see here is
You know that Bush started with a Surplus of 150 Billion right?
You also know that there was a republican control for the first 4 years right?
I am tired of hearing about the tax and spend liberals, seems to me that a bunch of republicans got us into this mess.
Seems to me that you should take a long and hard look at how this really happened instead of listening to fear mongers like this one. You republicans got us into this mess by allowing the fox to gaurd the henhouse. (for you simple people that means no regulations for wall street)
That is what no government got us. A bunch of Greedy people who cared more about the almighty dollar instead of their fellow man. Although that seems to be the republican mantra MONEY FOR ME

It's a full out fleecing of the taxpayer. How is this Constitutional? What have we been paying our state taxes for?

Congress allocated $70 million to build some sort of visitor building near the capitol, it ended up costing approx $700 million. The state of the art Staples Center where the Lakers play cost $250 million.

The democrats are about to do some serious damage.

Tax Break?
Tax Cuts to Make Work Pay and Create Jobs: We will provide direct tax relief to 95 percent of American workers, and spur investment and job growth for American Businesses. [marked up by the Ways and Means Committee]

So what is it? Whats the rate? Whats the qualifying income? This says absolutly nothing!
It means absolutly nothing!

OBAMA'S EXCUSES TO SPEND
Obama will now have an excuse to spend even more than his Democratic predecessors -- he'll just say it's the economy. SO, WHAT'S A COUPLE BILLION OR TRILLION?? FORGET A FEW MILLION DOLLARS NOW. Obama and the Democrats will continue to deceive the American people so they can continue on their tax-and-spend agenda. That's no "change" at all.

"Since when do we pay for the leisure and entertainment of others? ... You "really" want to buy a new TV?"

The government isn't paying for television sets, it's paying for converters so that people can continue to use their old analog televisions, don't have to buy new ones when broadcasters convert to digital.

The conversion frees up large amounts of spectrum space, some of which goes to the Department of Defense and first responders like police and firemen, to improve their communications. Other parts will be sold to cell phone companies and the like, for substantially more money than the cost of the converters. (Not, however, for a much money as they could get; the government is much too generous to those companies.)

You really should learn what a program actually is before you rant about it.
Jman writes: Monday, January, 19, 2009 10:53 AM
Spending for "Leisure"?
-$650 million to continue the coupon program to enable American households to convert from analog television transmission to digital transmission.

What the heck is this? Since when do we pay for the leisure and entertainment of others? Who cares about a freakin' television? Since when is that important when raising a family? You can still watch educational DVDs on your analog television if you are in to that sort of thing.

You "really" want to buy a new TV? Just sell some of your other stuff on eBay and buy your TV from someone else on eBay. Heck, I just got a bid on my house on eBay! We close in a few weeks.

Government, please, for the love of GOD, leave us alone! Let us succeed when we make good decisions. Let us fail when we make poor decisions. Let us learn from those poor decisions to make better ones and succeed. Stop penalizing our success and stop HOLDING OUR HANDS when we fail! We don't need you! Honest. Stop trying to make life easier for us. That is our job as citizens, not yours. Just keep us safe from foreign and domestic terror and stay out of my wallet and out of my home!
vamtns41 writes: Sunday, January, 18, 2009 7:00 PM
Surely this list is a big joke ...
Please tell me this "list" is a joke! If it is not, then I / we are doomed! We will have a revolution and the barter system may come back in force!

I guess you would prefer the Bush Budget
$350 billion--into the pockets of my banker friends and the banker friends of my cronies
$650 billion+--wage war on countries which have not attacked us and are unable to retaliate in any way

These goddamn social programs are gonna screw everything up! Why take a chance spending money on helping communities here when we can get guaranteed good results by destroying communities everywhere else??

Bush Obama Regime
Obama is continuing the madcap spending started by Bush. In four years, Republicans had better have an answer. History will look back at this and see this stimulus package as a key part of the Bush/Obama Regime. No change to believe in.

Not "quaint" so much as "objects of derision and scorn."

You should all be thankful that we have Obama, just in time to fix Bush's Depression.

Notice
That all the left-minded COW supporters do not comment here when shown exactly what the 'earmarks' of the bailout suggest? Absolutely sickening.
It has hardly anything to do with what is necessary. It the economic status is so bad, we do not need to give money to gov't sponsored crap. It needs to go to the PEOPLE!
This effing bill is all about Global Bullshitt.
Scott Ott writes: Friday, January, 16, 2009 5:32 AM
Not a single Constitutional item
A quick review of that spending list reveals not a single item authorized by our Constitution. Those who would apply such a litmus test, I suppose, have become quaint.

Socialism has failed every time...
... it has been tried, every time it has been given a new "makeover" and a flashy new name. This time will be no different.

To put it in perspective, would you cut off your arm because you got a papercut? Would you get out of a hole by digging yourself deeper? Would you eat even more food because you're full?

The same counter-intuitive logic goes into the socialist style of thinking.

accountability
When I was young, I lived in fear of bringing home a bad report card. If we are to get accountability in gov., we need to develop an economic report card to be seen on Town Hall and other sites, plus run in local newspapers with a picture of Reid/Pelosi with the local congressman, showing 3 columns. a)2006 b)Nov. 2008 c)current. Underneath, show 1)price of a gallon of gas 2)Dow Jones ave. 3)inflation rate 4)unemployment rate 5)deficit. If we ran these weekly(hear this Republicans), esp. in Blue Dog and competitive districts, we could make them sweat and limit the spin. We need to set the tone for the next 4 yrs. Be aggressive.

Reduced spending in the 111th Congress
is a thing of the past:

"This change [in House Rules will block] Republican efforts to strike tax increases in various legislation or offer tax reduction amendments that are not “paid for” with tax increases."

Representative democracy is dead. We have no input because it has been usurped by the Democrats under the Obama fraud.

Another opportunity for Republicans lost
This stimulus package would seem to be an opportunity for Pubs to press for some reforms in government spending. The government is run for the benefit of the government not the citizenry. Dispite the widespread unemployment with millions out of work the priviliged classes Congress and federal workers got a raise as a part of the bailout bill.Next to come will be massive bailouts of the blue states which also seem to be run for the benefit of the tax users instead of the taxpayers. Our Congressmen have built a wall around themselves to keep us away. Where is the mechanism for citizen input?
Homer writes: Thursday, January, 15, 2009 12:53 PM
"supirsed? really? c'mon!"
Frank, it appears that your shoe laces are tied together and it is interfering with your ability to walk, think, and write.

Change we cannot believe in:

"H.Res. 5
Adopting the Rules of the House of Representatives for the One Hundred Eleventh Congress

January 6, 2009
Motions to Recommit: Limits the Minority’s ability to offer motions to recommit to those with instructions to report back “forthwith”, e.g. those that if adopted will amend the bill immediately without the bill leaving the House floor. This rule change will bar Republicans from offering motions with instructions to report back “promptly,” and thereby send the bill back to committee to make a particular change if adopted. This change will force all motions to recommit to comply with the Democrat PAYGO rules, thus blocking Republican efforts to strike tax increases in various legislation or offer tax reduction amendments that are not “paid for” with tax increases."

The tax and spend Democratic juggernaut is coming down the track on rubber wheels.

Surprised by the new tone of the Democratic dictatorship in Washington? Obama is a fraud.

bush spent billions to try to protect us all from terrorist, and the dems yelled every inch of the way, and now we get taken to the cleaners by a congress that is made up of socialist who take from those who earn and give to those who refuse to.Spend our money on CRAPOLA, and thats what that list is.But then its no surprise since thats what kind of senators the left provide us with.
Frank writes: Thursday, January, 15, 2009 12:17 PM
supirsed? really? c'mon!
I knew the moment Bush started Bailing out wall street that if the GOP lost-which it did and badly-the liberals would have a blank check to fund whatever liberal cause they want with our tax dollars.

Now social conservatives are going to stamp their feet and run around in anger when they didn't do a shred of action when the time came eign in the compassionate conservative POTUS. All the GOP congressmen and senators who voted for the bill opened the door to this stimulous. Yiu can criticize Obama all you want for the christmas tree aspect of it but the bottom line you need look no further than Bush; the bush legacy is quasi socialism, it ain't Obama's- so quit yer whining and find a meaningful way to get some GOP imprint on it before things really go.
