Wherein we discuss religious liberty in Turkey, while having tea outside the Grand Bazaar.
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 6:09 PM
Greetings from the road!  Today RedState co-founder Josh Trevino and I had a chance to discuss religious liberty over tea in Istanbul, Turkey.  Here's the video...

Pushing religion zealotry
Sounds like a few wingnuts trying to merge church and state, again. Is there no end to these nuts?

Can't fool me
That's obviously a fake video. Turkey is almost 100% Muslim, and anyone who reads Town Hall knows that Muslims are all violent terrorists.

Absurd
This entire conversation is absurd. Many of the facts being thrown out are patently false, let alone misleading. The last time the Christian population of Istanbul neared 33 - 50%, it was known as Byzantium. (500 years ago) The main purpose of the "Ministry of Religion" is to keep religion out of the public realm. The main beneficiaries are the reigious minority. Christians and Jews, as well as other Muslim sects. In a country where better than 90% of the populace adheres to a singular religious view, the infiltration of public and political life by the singular view would quickly lead to the persecution of the minorities. The arrogance on display here is stomach churning. A self-described Marylander and Texan sitting in a Turkish cafe discussing the plight of religious minorities, obviously without having ever consulted with the actual minorities involved. If there was any truth at all to this discussion, wouldn't the minority groups in Turkey be supporters of Erdogan's Welfare Party? Rather, they are the most ardent opposers, and seek to preserve the status quo, which in turn preserves their own status. These 2 also conveniently leave out the fact the Orthodox Greek archumenical church is explicitly excluded from the authority of the Ministry of Religion, as are the various Synagogues. Yet, these bozos claim that the MOR "disproportionately" hurts religious minorities. It's MAIN PURPOSE IS THEIR PROTECTION. It's really embarrassing to see these Americans wax poetic on another nation's democratic ideals, while obviously not having the slightest bit of actual and factual knowledge of the very topic they discuss. Pathetic!
