A Word to Catholic Democrats

The prefect of the Vatican’s Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature -- the Vatican's highest court -- has said that the Democrat Party risks "transforming itself definitively into a party of death. . ." because of its stance on abortion and bioethical issues.
I've heard some on the left dismiss such comments in the past because they're from Vatican denizens who seem to have little familiarity with modern American life. But this one comes from the former Archbishop Raymond Burke of St. Louis, himself an American.
It's hard to figure out how Catholics can ignore such warnings and still remain Catholics in good standing, isn't it?

Perhaps I should reacquaint you to the concept of 'cafeteria Catholic', i.e., one who picks and chooses from the line only those things they like. [As a revert and former cafeteria Catholic, I speak from experience.] But in a broader sense, each individual is a work in progress, constantly being called to greater holiness and a fuller living out of the Truth. Not everyone is there yet, but they are beloved and welcome members of the faith.
This is the polar opposite of the problem we see in the Episcopalian Church in America where the clerics are retreating from the truth and the faithful members are holding the line. |

I have always been bewildered by people who claim that there needs to be a culture of life and a fight against a culture of death. Where is it? What are these so-called "cultures of life and death", anyway? From what I have surmised, it always seems to go all the way back to trivial issues like abortion and stem cell research. They claim you are killing potential life when you do that, so is doing the opposite saving lives? I have a hard time believing that because I know I wouldn't have been born if my mother didn't have an abortion. I think it's unfortunate that a necessary sacrifice like that has to happen, but I feel that it actually saves future generations.
Imagine, if you will, you had a button that you could push in order to be sent back to 1973 when Roe vs. Wade was being fought in the Supreme Court. Then imagine that Roe vs. Wade DOESN'T come in favor of Roe, thereby never legalizing abortion throughout America. I would imagine that those women, who couldn't have an abortion in order to save their lives, would die in childbirth along with the baby, and if they weren't alive after that, then how would future generations be produced? The obvious answer would be that they wouldn't. Thereby, in an alternative timeline, abortion wouldn't be legal no matter what and we still would have theoretically killed off many because they would never have been born if their mothers (like mine) had died if they were forced to induce labor. I don't know for sure, but that's the way I see it. |

To run for a national office in the Democratic party you MUST be pro-choice and bow to the god Roe v Wade. And by pro=choice leftists don't mean choose to have a baby or abort it. They mean abortion. Planned Parenthood is PROUD of the number of abortions they have done or aided to have done. They want abortion to happen at any time during pregnancy, even in late term when the baby can live without support outside of the womb. Obama voted against a bill that simply stated that if a baby survived an abortion then the baby is legally a person and has all the rights of a person and should receive health care. The alternate to giving living babies health care is to dump them in a trash can and let them die.

He admitted himself (at Saddleback) that that was his worst failing.
Not to excuse him, but has anyone considered the difficulties he and his first wife would have had to deal with had they stayed married? He was (and still is) a cripple as a consequence of his stay in the Hanoi Hilton. His wife was (and still is) a cripple as a consequence of her serious auto accident. Yes, they could have found ways to deal with their situation, but neither would be who they are now.
If the nature of reality is that what was, is, and will be IS, and Time is the revelation of what IS to our wondering eyes, then the only choice any of us has is to accept reality and our places in it--or not. This is a choice every single one of us makes at every instant of every day, and we are responsible for the consequences of every choice, whether we like them or not. The question is whether any of us is willing to learn from the consequences of those choices and seek to choose acceptance of reality more often.
I would much rather vote for a man who knows the dangers of pride and anger, than for one who thinks he is The One, The Messiah, because he long ago chose to deny reality and his place in it.

Um... how shall I put this? The issue of when a human baby gets rights is not trivial, but the most fundamental and important issue in the entire set of mankind. Without knowing when rights are bestowed, why they exist and we can make claims to them, and what order of importance they take should they conflict with one another, can we possibly hope to develop a sense of morality and a philosophy of governance. With abortion, the claim is not that you are killing a "potential" human being, but that you are killing a human being, period.
As for the life of the mother, cases which involve incest, rape, or the life of the mother constitute less than 2% of all abortions, and of those, very few are likely to involve the life of the mother. I happen to support abortion in the event that the life of the mother is in danger, although in the case of incest or rape I have to ask "Did the kid do anything wrong? No? Then don't kill the kid."
Roe v. Wade went far beyond the areas of legitimate moral dilemma and opened the door for elective-abortion instead, where kids could be killed on mere whim for convenience. That is what is meant when you see the term "culture of life" pitted against the term "culture of death." |

If you think Obammi is going to just step up and stop war you are living in a dream world. The only way he can stop war is to turn our country over to the Islamist radicals which is more apt to happen under Obammi than for him to stop the attacks on our country.
Show your patriotism by helping your fellow man and let the government take care of the governments business.

If you think about it, that means he does know if anyone has legal rights. His ignorance of a fundamental issue of human life disqualifies him from being POTUS.

if you are sincere in your questios, the Church recognizes that abortion, particularly partial birth abortion is an unambiguous evil. The morality of war has been a subject of moral theology since the first Pentecost Sunday.
If you know the guilt of the Catholic faithful concerning the use of "artificial" birth control, you are far more knowledgeable than any of the hiearchy. However, the hierarchy is not likely to accept your private knowledge about the state of the souls of the Catholic faithful who are failing morally by using "artificial" means of controlling birth.
I do not accept your private knowledge either. No one has placed you in a position to judge which Catholics are using "artificial" birth control and their culpability for doing so. Again, the use of "artificial" birth control is more difficult to understand as evil than sucking a baby human's brains out.
If you do not see sucking living human beings' brains out as a serious moral evil, you are unlikely to understand more complex moral issues. |

Just look at how many Catholics use methods of birth control other than what is allowed by Catholic doctrine. War, in and of itself, is not sinful; however, abortion, even if for rape or incest, is always a grave sin. Abortion, very simply put, is murder; killing in war, even of innocents, is not murder. Peace in our world will never be achieved if peace is not restored to the womb. When you vote for someone who is pro-choice, you become an accomplice to every abortion performed in our country. |
