Someone Was Doing Wright-Polling in N.C.
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 2:50 PM
Gee, I wonder why Obama, the anti-political posturer, disowned Wright today. My dad got a call last night that might explain.

I got some more information about that call.

It was a live call last night around 7 p.m., not a robocall. The woman on the phone identified herself as with a polling firm of some sort, but did not indicate that she was working at the behest of either campaign.

The call was 6 or 7 minutes long and started with "Are you a registered Democrat?"

After that question, the caller asked, "How closely have you been following the Rev. Wright story," to which the voter could answer "Very closely," "Somewhat Closely," and "Not Closely at all."

The next question was, "How has your view of Obama been affected by this story," to which the voter could answer along the lines of, "It's the same," "It's somewhat more negative," "It's somewhat more positive."

The caller read two statements from Hillary and Obama from the trail and asked which the voter agreed with.

The last question was, "Are you leaning toward voting for Obama or Hillary on Tuesday."

All of these questions are best approximations based on talking to one person who got the call last night.

Update: Ben Smith has word from Obama and Clinton spokespeople who say the poll didn't come from either camp.

Nothing New Learned Lately
Okay, Obama said what he said and Wright said what he said. Has anything either of them said changed your opinions? Not mine. Nothing new was learned here, only that they each are talking a little more forcefully and apparently hard feelings between Obama and Wright have emerged. Wright is still an anti-American racist nut, and Obama is still hiding his true identity and lack of good judgement and qualifications. Obama has no chance at all of winning the general election, truly. Wouldn't it be interesting if the superdelegates eventually bring in a third choice? August is such a long time away and anything can happen between now and then.

This campaign season has certainly had some unexpected turns and twists!

This Independent says No to Obama
If Obama thinks he can get the independents, he is WRONG.

I saw Hillary on O'Reilly tonight and I was impressed with her spark and I love her fight.

McCain could fight, but he's elderly and doesn't have much spark left in him.

Obama has no chance with us independents, we're the ones that actually use our brains and are not partisian nor blinded by party lines.

Thanks for the memories Obama and the gift of Rev. Wright, his reruns will surely come in handy when we get sick of watching Charles Manson interviews.

Get over it! Stop whining and get off welfare...How many kids do you have with the ho's in the hood? Sold any crack lately?
Like stereotyping...?
You are nothing but a racist of a darker persuasion. Don't hide behind what your grandma and grandpa went through. It's been a long time ago and your victim-like attitude only perpetuates the stereotype and the situation blacks CHOOSE to remain in.

If Wright (BTW there is no such thing as reverend if someone really follows the Bible) and Obama really care about the black community why don't they advocate against abortion that is decimating YOUR community. I can answer it for you. This position would require them and you to accept responsibility and shed the victimhood attitude and would require you to become real Americans who ALAYS have "can do " attitude. This type of attitude made America the great country that it is today. Most blacks CHOOSE not to participate in the opportunities that still exist in this greatest country on God’s green Earth. Although I don’t always agree with Medved I do love this statement.

first of all, about this "report", MKH is really reaching in trying to allude that obama was influenced by a poll call the night before. that's a stretch and totally unjustified, since she provides no evidence to support it.

okay, now about rev wright. i agree that he is an issue, but the point is that the media has made him a bigger issue than he really is. obama has a lot out there to go on when trying to figure out who he is, not just his pastor. he has years of community work, activism, academic and professional achievement, 2 books (one an autobiography), state and us senate voting records, and numerous speeches. so, whoever is using rev wright as the primary source of finding out who obama is really is just lazy or see only what they want to see. rev wright does not represent black churches or black people any more than john hagee represents white churches and white people. but, that's what racists do. they take the worst example of a race and try to make it representative of the entire race. also, why is it that the people who are criticising rev wright for being anti-american point only to his contraversial comments, but don't take into account his military service, care for a recovering president, and decades of community service? doesn't fit the narrative, i guess. i guarantee he's done more for this country than the vast majority of his critics on here.

The point is that there is no comparison between what happened within the church and the Wright, Obama situation. Catholics can change parishes, but they cannot change churches as there is only one.

fight4right, I am a conservative, pro-life Catholic which precludes me from even thinking about voting for either Obama or Clinton.

Any objective observer can see that the Democrats are far more passionate about this election. Once the nominee is decided, they will coalesce around the winner. My point is that Clinton or Obama are the likely next president and between the two, I would rather have him. She and her husband are dangerous and the Republicans may live to regret taking Obama down this way.

I'm just happy to see black racists finally get smacked down.

We've listened to your crap for decades now, all your excuses for why you're youth are on crack and killing each other.

We've done our part. We rescinded jim crow. We gave you the vote. We outlawed discrimination. We gave you preferences (that you didnt deserve) in hiring and college admissions. We gave you favored status on school grants. dWe made it essentially illegal to offend you. Was that enough?

Noooo...you want more...and more...and more. You only wanted to wallow in your self-hate, blaming 'the man' for you pathetic excuses for a life.

Well, this is your warning: those days are over. Grow up. Join the ranks of your non-racist brothers are be relegated to the sidelines with your spiritual brothers in the klan.

This is your warning.

Tired of Hearing About Race
Before this campaign began, people weren't all that concerned about race. Before we heard Wright, we thought black churches pretty much worship like we do; hopefully, Trinity isn't like most black churches. We see black ministers preaching on the Christian channels, and they aren't preaching like Wright. Christ's sermons never encouraged hate, anywhere, in fact He said "love your enemies." Wright would be better off encouraging his congregation to love each other, love their families, love themselves and to try to be the best persons they can be. Does he speak out against black on black violence? Does he explain the Ten Commandments? You know, the very basics God COMMANDED. Jesus didn't encite people to do bad things, and the Good Samaritan said to be good to people who are different. Jesus accepted everyone.

I fail to see Christianity in Rev. Wright's sermons.

Catholics Support Sex Abuse?
That remark is downright stupid, seriously. Likely 98% of Catholics knew what what going on when the issue surfaced. The point is, victims and priests did not speak openly of this problem. Rev. Wright screamed his hatred from the pulpit! In the long run, finding out about the molesters and victims helped "clean house" and address the problem. Things are very different in the way the Catholic Church responds to all complaints. You all heard Pope Benedict XVI. I believe he meant those words, and he spoke on behelf of all Catholics, to our brothers and sisters who have been so greatly hurt; this grieves all of us.

The comparison you made was apples vs. potatoes. I've worked in various positions within the Catholic Church for decades, and I know the procedures and norms are very, very different now. Sort of like setting up the Department of Homeland Security when we discovered we were vulnerable.

Obamba screws Rev. Rant without a kiss
I never thought I'd be defending Rev. Rant, HOWEVER, Obamba is the WORST liar by denouncing his "friend" and pastor, and it is obvious now that he just used him. THAT is despicable.

Obamba used Rev. Rant, his church, his connections, and anything else he could get to jumpstart his campaign. And NOW he actually thinks that he can just screw someone and split?

Think again.

Obamba's chickens will come home to roost for this one.

Look to see Rev. Rant come out and mock Obamba or worse for feigning shock over his speech and totally humiliating him. He is NOT going to let Obamba screw him without even a kiss.

Rev. Rant is a lot of things and I've been one of his fiercest critics, but he's not a LIAR like Obamba. I'm on Rev. Rant's side on this one.

Wright is right
Well he is right about one thing. Obama is a slick politician.
But, not quite as slick as the racist pastor.
It's one or the other. Either Obama is dumber than a box of rocks for not knowing his pastor is a racist loon. Or he's just another lying politician. Either choice is not good.
Why do I suspect the pastor might have videos of Obama in church on the days of the controversial sermons. That might be why Obama pushed the pastor all the way to the edge of the cliff today but, still couldn't throw him over. Obama chose his words very carefully as always. He did not denounce the man. Obama only said their relationship would never be the same. Why would he hold onto this relationship ? Out of fear ?

Wright Isn't the Issue
It's not about Wright as a man; it's about what he preaches, what he claims the "black church" is about, and whether any of that is what you would want a future president of the United States accepting mentoring in.

Jeremiah Wright is an unabashed follower of "Black Liberation Theology", a theology which holds that any God who does not work toward the destruction of all whites is unworthy of the worship of blacks. Barack Obama did not merely attend this man's church, he chose this man as his spiritual mentor.

If Hillary Clinton or John McCain was a mentee of a white supremacist pastor who preached that any God who did not work toward the destruction of all nonwhites was unworthy of worship by whites, no one currently trying to give Obama a waiver on this issue would be so kind to either of them, with damn good reason.

Obama is supposed to be this great post-racial, post-partisan figure, yet he has chosen to associate himself with a venal theology that preaches bias and hatred toward others. Obama is a fraud, and if he and Wright were white, you'd all be screaming for his blood.

I'm sorry, but you can't have it both ways. Barack Obama made his bed, now he gets to lie in it.

You can put as much gauze on Obama's large, open wound as you want. Obama's got a huge 10" gaping hole and his speech today was like putting a large, thick blanket over it, sure it stopped the blood from pouring onto the floor. But it's only going to soak into the entire blanket.

Put a fork in him, he's done.

How could you stay in a church that aids and abets child predators. How do you know that it has stopped. Did the Priest tell you. The Catholics should have left the church, no excuse.

We have not talked about it enough. The Catholic Church simply moved the Priest from churh to church, not banish him to the ends of the earth. You put your children in harms way, knowing that this exist within this church but yet forced your children to go anyway. Hope your children do not come to you one day and have something to tell you, what will you do then?

You people simply dismiss this and think it is cute to define cover-ups. Again, watch your children very carefully whilst in church.

the Catholic church
I guess that everything has to be related back to the church's mishandling of the priest abuse scandal but at least make it an apt comparison.

If a protestant is not happy with a pastor, they can leave to find a new pastor with the message they want to hear.

For Catholics, there is only one church. It was not the doctrine or the faith or the theology that was the problem, it was degenerate
men using their priesthood to abuse young men.

As Catholics, we did the best we could by withholding our money, complaining loudly to the bishops and pushing for reforms in the way children and young adults are supervised during church sponsored activities.

Just get a grip already with the abuse scandal. This is not the same thing. There is only one Catholic church, the priests are not the church whereas in a protestant sect, often the minister is the reason the church succeeds.

Oh, and cover-ups are called that for a reason. It has been a struggle but the church will survive this and the young priests coming up are more faithful to the church than the homosexual priests from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. So enough already, these constant attacks are ridiculous, especially since they are knee-jerk ignorance.
Jvette writes: Tuesday, April, 29, 2008 4:58 PM
sans pareil
I get that. The point here is that Obama was a young black man, looking to advance within a certain realm, namely the black political community. The other people in the pews seem to applaud the sermons of Wright. If you didn't know any better, would you think that all blacks and all black churches in this country believe the same?

Everyone has a world view shaped by people and events in one's life. Most weekly sermons may not have been so politically radical, but rather exhortations to help the community through social justice and action. I'm saying that he may not have understood how radical sounding these things would be to the outside larger population.

Thousands, if not millions attend Catholic churches in strong disagreement with many doctrines regarding sex and family planning. If a priest were to begin teaching every week about the sin of abortion or fornication or whatever, then some would stay, out of loyalty to the church community, some would leave in outrage, and some would applaud the priest's bravery.
I am very pro life, but some of the older ladies in my church are very pro choice. Now, if the priest says a pro legal abortion stance is sinful, many of those old ladies will get offended. Some will leave, some will complain and some will quietly stay and I will be applauding.

For all of the cheering on the right at his demise, there will most likely be plenty of wailing and gnashing of the teeth, when Hillary is sworn in next Jan. She and her husband are dangerous to the security of this country, and by the ruination of Obama, we may have sealed our own fate. A republican will not win this year.

Then why would anyone stay in an organization that protects child predators instead of the child. They moved those sick Priest from Church to Church, but did they stop molesting. The only reason you even know about it is because they could not buy off the victims with silence. Father Mahoney, who had to pay out the largest ever child molestation only did so because he was about to testify, and would have had to tell the "TRUTH".

Oh wait, it is more important to leave a church because of some of the anti corrupt views about your Country than to leave a church because they are harming, violating raping, molesting children. Makes sense!!

Rev. Wright
I am a conservative and will be voting Republican in the fall but this whole affair is so out of hand and Barack Obama has not gotten a fair deal here.

Let us remember that he was not raised in a Christian home and did not attend any church, much less a black one, for the bulk of his life until he entered Trinity. I have no doubt that doing so was motivated by political ambition and the need to know the right people to get ahead in Chicago politics but, still, he accepted Jesus and became a Christian.

Imagine that you have never heard the Gospel preached. Imagine that you are a young black man looking to succeed, to change the world and leave your mark. Would you have known that the things that Rev. Wright said were not typical of sermons in church?

I do not agree with any of Obama's socialist agenda but I think that in a way he has been blindsided by all of this for the reasons I stated. He said today, he had not vetted his pastor before running for office.

That being said, I think Obama tried to remain loyal to Rev. Wright even as he distanced himself from some of the most extreme views he held. Rev. Wright on the other hand just figuratively threw Obama under the bus over the weekend. Even then, Obama tried to excuse him by saying it's understandable that he would try to defend himself. But, that smug, arrogant, snide performance yesterday was just too much.

I will not be voting for either democrat, but I think one of them will be the next president and I am hoping for Obama over Hillary. So shoot me.
