What Rights Does Osama Get?
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 10:01 PM
Barack Obama is worried about how to bring Osama bin Laden to justice without his becoming a "martyr."  He also had this to say:

"First of all, I think there is an executive order out on Osama bin Laden's head.  And if I'm president, and we have the opportunity to capture him, we may not be able to capture him alive."

Isn't that statement inconsistent with his concern about how to try bin Laden?  After all, if a trial offering a full panoply of rights is necessary to avoid the mantle of martyrdom being draped across Osama's shoulders, wouldn't outright killing him be even worse?

All this is pretty reminiscent of Howard Dean's willingness back in '03 to extend the presumption of innocence to Osama

So here are two questions for Barack:

(1) If he were elected, would be amend the "executive order out on Osama bin Laden's head" so that the terrorist could only be captured, and not killed?
(2) Does Barack -- as Howard Dean did -- believe that bin Laden should be presumed innocent until proven guilty?

Oh, and here's one more: How scary is it that we even have to ask about these things?

What's really resonating
Here's what's really resonating:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/41514.html

Bush will be tried for war crimes once he leaves office.

It's inevitable.

He'll be found guilty in absenteeism.

Yet the right wing is in total denial that anything is even remotely wrong, defending the indefensible.

Elementary for most folks
Let's make it simple. Simple so that all of you can understand. Easy words, easy sentences. You try to capture him. Alive, if possible. If not, kill him. Kill him dead. Try to capture him alive and you reduce the risk of martyrdom.

and which US prison would Osama
want to put Bin Laden in? Could he make it one in Chicago as I don't think NY deserves any more terrorist attacks.

Maybe Obama could let Bin Laden go for a latte and sit and chat with Ayers, Wright and Farrahkan while they munch on some arugula finger sandwiches.

BTW, anyone else notice that the ticker line on FOX now uses Usama rather than Osama when referencing Bin Laden?

Better question:
Why hasn't W found Bin-Laden yet?

"Dead or alive" turned into "I don't think about him much any more."

You've done a heck of a job, Bushie!

Good Line of Questioning Carol

You can tell by the vitriol it inspires from the left.

Really, though, this would constitute a serious change in our approach to terrorism. It deserves to be considered and its consequences analyzed.

Do we really want to shift from Preventing attacks to reacting to attacks?

Do we really want to shift responsibility for combatting terrorists from the finest military on earth to civilian courts?

These are fair questions. These are serious questions.

Wanted: Dead or Dead
Military leaders need to find him dead after a fire fight.

Otherwise, if Obama's elected, we'll be glued to our TV sets for hours as Bin Laden is driven around the Pakistani or Afghan countryside in a white Bronco by one of Obama's half-brothers. We'll apprehend him, transport him to the U.S., give him legal counsel (John Edwards), and try him.

But in a stunning turn of events, he'll be acquitted when Edwards comes up with the crucial defense, "If the turban don't fit, you must acquit."

Obama, his administration, and America-haters within our country will laud the verdict as a triumph in American fairness and open-mindedness.

one little typo and it changes Obama into Osama..

I am so sick of your BDS, I could scream. SSDD, with you. You're so convinced Obama is a uniter. Well, let me know how it's working for you, while digging out from another terror attack after the elections,'kay,'kay? Then you'll get a real glimpse of the Obama civilization program.

Rights?
How about a cigarette and a blindfold? How about a last meal and the opportunity to say a few last words and pray with the local imam before 12 relatives of 911 victims open fire with M1A's to render his body lifeless...?
