A Tear in the Bulldog's Eye . . .
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 12:19 PM
Handsome Dan, the Yale mascot, must have a tear in his eye today.  This story from the Yale Daily News illustrates just how depraved a lot of the thinking on America's elite college campuses has become:

Art major Aliza Shvarts '08 wants to make a statement.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.

How completely depraved.

Where was Miss Shvarts' faculty advisor?  Did s/he sign off on this idea?  Does the university really believe it is appropriate to offer a forum for this kind of display?

And are universities like Yale simply turning out well-educated people who are, to put it politely, completely incapable of moral or ethical reasoning?

Hoax
There is some talk that this "art" is actually a hoax and the project is actually the response. We are the project.
ScarletPimpernel writes: Thursday, April, 17, 2008 4:11 PM
i believe that is
the darkest thing I've ever heard about. At this time, I can't honestly say I hope God has mercy on her.

Someone call Dickie Scruggs
I just realized something about this project. We are talking blood here, mixed with vaseline to keep it liquid.

Has Yale thought about potential libility problems. What if someone breaches the cordons and actually touches this blood that is such a centerpiece. Is Ms. Shvart's HIV free?

She is so wrapped up in her cause, she is blind to the danger she puts other people in. And what does it say about the Yale faculty who should have thought of this possible health threat? It says nothing good from what I can tell.

Can it get any worse?
I can't help agreeing with the apocalyptic suggestions of previous commentators, and I too got nauseous reading the linked article. Not to take anything away from depravity of this girl's act, I wonder if society is at fault for allowing, if not preventing, a girl from getting to the point of even contemplating this. Has humanity gone this low in its opinion of the unborn life that a young girl could actually see this as acceptable? I pray for this girl that she is suffering from certifiable psychological problems.

OMG
I am literally sick to my stomach after reading that story. Just when you think the art world cannot stoop any lower.

the Apocalypse is truly upon us
This is so wrong on so many levels I am not really sure where to start. Not only has she apparently taken numerous lives already, she has ruined her own. This is so sad.

It's Us Who Are Stoopid
Who are we bitter folk to argue that this ain't art? BHO didn't mention art so maybe we are too stoopid to no. Maybe he'll send his daughters to that fine institooshun of learnin' to get a good educashun to.

In reality - Ms Shvarts is just a the product of rich, radical, east-coast liberals. The only good thing to possibly come out of this is she won't be able to have children.
Jan writes: Thursday, April, 17, 2008 12:58 PM
Shocking; will there be outrage?
Why someone would consider this art is shocking, devoid of any sense of morality and appreciation for life. Whether you’re on the side of choice or life, her actions mock both. From my limited knowledge and experiences with women who have chosen abortion, it has been a difficult decision. This person purposely impregnated herself and terminated, some would say murdered, the fetus. I hope there will be outrage rather than “Oprah and Tolle” platitudes about acceptance and nonjudgmental responses.
Anna Puna writes: Thursday, April, 17, 2008 12:49 PM
Disgusting
This is not art. This is crude shock politics tarted up as art in a pathetic attempt to shield this horrendous spectacle from well deserved scrutiny.
ChitownHammer writes: Thursday, April, 17, 2008 12:45 PM
How?
How does somebody of such a warped mind get into Yale and then cruise along with no oversight? And these are the people who are going to run this country? I fear for my children.
Dread writes: Thursday, April, 17, 2008 12:37 PM
Sad...
If true, that's just really sad and tragic...
