Booking Along . . .
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 12:06 PM
Just have to say that I'm glad to learn about Gwen Ifill's forthcoming book.  It should have been obvious that female journalists have, if anything, been more hostile to Palin than jus the run-of-the-mill MSM.

Why's it good news?

First, Ifill understands that her every movement, word, statement and attitude is going to be subjected to even closer scrutiny than might otherwise have been the case.  Oddly, she will actually have to be more even-handed because she knows that everyone understands where her bias lies.

Second, this is a high-profile example of the systemic pro-Obama bias in the MSM.  It allows those who otherwise might not have been aware of the Barack-worship in the press to hear about it in a way that drives the point home.

The absence or presence of a pro-Obama book changes nothing about the way Gwen Ifill feels personally (and I suspect that her feelings are shared by over 90% of the MSM).  At least it makes it plain for one and all where her allegiances lie, and that kind of clarity is good.

But it does say something about either Ifill's integrity or her judgment that she saw no reason to mention this to the McCain campaign.

Can't get toothpaste back in the tube ..
Unfortunately, one doesn't get the opportunity to "unring the bell."

Once a slight, a sarcasm or a snide question or facial mugging takes place, the recipient is left with the stain no matter how they field it.

Ms. Ifill has been a good television news reader over the years. Her own demeanor did surface in the discussion surrounding the Imus race controversy, where Ms. Ifill had a claim and voiced it without hiding her feelings for the personal affront she took from the Imus comments that invoked her name.

We cannot expect her to feel constrained by 'all eyes upon her'. She knows if she creates havoc for Gov. Palin, she institutionalizes herself with her brethren in media as the slayer of Sarah. To be so enshrined is worth the hit she'd take from all the rest of us.

And it is so easy to do.

So, like the gymnast on the first day of practice that learns from the coach that in this sport, 'you will get hurt,' Gov. Palin must expect to get hurt and get back up on the equipment like the wounded gymnast and complete the routine.

Ms. Ifill should recuse herself

Ifill
If Ms. Ifill does not recuse herself; she - at minimum - needs to provide a disclaimer. To do neither would be a huge breach of integrity and ethics.

Which "female journalists", Carol?
Who's been "hostile" to Palin? Please feel free to name one journalist - not commentator or columnist, but JOURNALIST. I am betting Carol can't because no one - I repeat, NO ONE - has been "hostile" to Palin. It is just plain fact that Palin is HER OWN WORST ENEMY. She is a HORRIBLE choice for McCain - even your own RW columnists are saying so. She is gravelly under-qualified, and pathetically ignorant on American issues. Critical press is what Palin deserves - and McCain deserves. The GOP ticket is a sham - a politicizing hackery of presidential campaign. Shame on McCain and his GOP puppetmasters.
