I just spoke with Ken Blackwell, a senior fellow at the American Civil Rights Union and a former Ohio Secretary of State, about Michael Steele's comments to GQ.
According to Blackwell:
"Chairman Steele, as the leader of America's Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work -- or get out of the way."
Blackwell ran against Steele for RNC Chairman and his surprise last-minute endorsement of Steele helped propel him to victory.

I think Mr Blackwell needs to Flush the bible and GOP platform down the toilet and reread the constitution and federalists papers. If the GOP had done this 8 years ago we would be in better shape today.
The Only reason that Obama won was because the Republican/Christians had so screwed up the country that even rednecks thought they had no choice but to vote for him. |

The conservatives have been victomized by the liberal smear campaign that incudes adjectives like extreme and draconian before any noun resembling a conservative. There are more pro-choice republicans than any other. Here is where the words get intentionally twisted by liberals.Pro-choice is not pro abortion.80% of women are against abortian unless the life of the mother is at risk. That law has been standard operating proceedure for Drs.forever.This includes any major decision a dr. has to make, and the law backs him unless negligence is involved. My wife is an RN and has been delivering babies for 35 years. She tells me there has never been a time when this conflict has happened.this is why the majority of deliveries that have a chance of risk is a ciscerian delivery.Abortion as population control is not bible preaching,it's common sense and decency. We have lost our moral compass. |

I agree that the Steele we got looked more putty. The one I heard on the talk shows is not the same one that is now the leader of the RNC.I was shocked to hear the second in command said getting rid of Steele is like getting rid of a tenured professor. The thing I fear more than Steele is he may actually be representing a platform the party supports. If that is the case, look for a third party. There is already a constitution party organizing. If the libetarians could shed the stigma of being a just legalize drugs name the other two parties have hung on them, they could get a big chunk of the electorate. If Ross Perot can get 20% of the nations votes, then there is hope.Problems 1-2-3 is money.Perot was a billioaire.Funding is a must. |

Vindex, That is the point. The word "conservative" is starting to get the same recognition as the word "liberal." Having conservative ideas is now the same as being religious. Abortion is the litmus test for a candidate, that's why the tax raising Huckabee is more acceptable than someone like Gary Johnson. |
|
IS the constitutional model.
You believe in a theocracy. You are the old democrats. OK, we get it. But just admit it and stop bringing up the constitution and pretending you give a rat's behind about it. It just pisses off us conservatives. |
|
"They also need to clearly stake out a pro-life position, but NOT based on a state-by-state determination. "
In other words, it is your opinion that they say screw the constitution just like the Democrats? And why does that make them any better? Because the totaltarian government YOU want looks better than the totaltarian government THEY want?
By the way, last I checked murder IS state decided except in special (and clearly defined) cases.
At one time in our our history, we actually believed in a republic. You might find some mention of it on some dusty bookshelf in your local library. |
|
The last time I was here, you all were telling everyone how you aren't racist because you would vote for Michael Steele as president. And now, suddenly, you knew we was a traitorous scumbag all along....
Wow, why did I even come back?
Later. |

Wasn't it the Founding Fathers of the constitution that said church and state should not be joined. The current GOP is try to do the exact opposite. Why should political leaders that portray liberty and freedom force their religious beliefs through has law. I think that this is a disgrace and the supposed puritanical attitude of the GOP should stay in the church and not be bought to government. |
|

Andrea nailed it in her 3:42pm comment. The Republicans need to return to their limited government and fiscal responsibility roots instead of trying to be Democrat-Lite. They also need to clearly stake out a pro-life position, but NOT based on a state-by-state determination. If human rights are not uniform across the states, then we, in truth, are NOT one nation under God. I submit that if states can individually choose to make abortion legal, they should also be allowed to make slavery legal again, make murder legal, infanticide and euthanasia. Oops, I forgot...Washington State and Oregon already HAVE made euthanasia legal! |

As someone who supported Mr. Steele in his run for the Chairmanship of the RNC and has found him to be an eloquent presenter of the conservative case in the past, I am distressed that lately he can't seem to get out of his own way. I hope he is just having some new job jitters. Most people would be hard-pressed to name the last chairman of the RNC. It is my hope he gets his feet under him. If he does, he will be a welcome defender of the conservative cause and take the fight to the liberals.

do any of that. First of all he doesn't need to read the Bible as this is the United States and we have fought for the freedom to not become a theocratic government. He also doesn't need to reread the 2008 GOP platform. And the constitution, it depends if the conservative you are talking to is the Bible thumping tax raiser Huckaby or someone like Barry Goldwater (pro-choice), Ayn Rand (pro-choice) or the wives of Bush 1 and 2 and Reagan. It is a state's rights issue. It's also an education issue; if we want less abortions (which has happened for the last ten years) then let's educate. Instead of turning in to a burka wearing society in which women are going in to the back alleys or I have to pay for other unwanted children. Republicans need to take the party back from the former dixiecrats. I respect religion I just don't need to be told this is a christian nation and I have to do that myself, I also don't want my wife to be told to wear a burka. |

had won. But, alas the RNC has bought into the lie that the Republican party needs to look more like the Democrat party in order to win: diverse, centrist and feminist. Just look at the selection of Steele, McCain and Palin...all efforts by the national party to reach out to minorities, moderates and women. All backfired. Why not just stick to what differentiates Repubs from Dems...fiscal responsibility and limited government! Or, maybe it's because the Repubs don't really believe in or practice the latter either. |
|
|
Like practically all politicians they get elected and reveal that the person who was elected in not the person who ran for the office. For some reason, it is perfectly okay to lie while running and do the complete opposite once elected. I truly believe that Steele will attack the GOP from within through his position at the RNC. We have been scammed once again. |

Steele's view on the abortion issue is confused.
His advocacy of states' rights is a good and conservative position - it should be up to states to decide whether or not to allow abortion.
That view is NOT the same as being pro-life, however. Steele appears to be equating the two positions.
Steele is correct, pro-choice people do have place in the Republican Party - even potentially in leadership positions. That is a difficult task and requires a person to have solid conservative roots and the utmost integrity.
I believe Steele is damaging his political integrity. Dishonesty and confusion will be Steele's downfall.
Nonetheless, I believe that this is good and cathartic for the Republican Party. The solution is not to run pro-choice people out of the party and became politically isolationist. The solution is to develop a mature and coherent counterargument to what is currently happening in our government. |
|
The lying liar said all the right things until he got the position he wanted, and now we see the 'real' Steel! What else should we expect? A politician knows how to lie better than anyone else; they are nothing more than blood sucking animals, each and every single one of them. The vile, untrue sh!t they spew is knee deep to a tall Indian.
Poli: means many Tic: a blood sucking animal.
We need to vote them out and begin fresh or we have no reason to complain when they screw us. If we're nt willing to do that we just need to rememeber to bend way over......and bring lots of vaseline. |
|
First let us not forget that young Matt was a public Blackwell booster.
That being said...
Ok, Michale Steele is either one of two things:
A. The dumbest politicians/taking heads ever.
B. A fiendish Plot by Obama to destroy the GOP from the inside.
Steele already released a statement this morning reaffirming that fact that he is prolife and has always been prolife and for anybody to say that he isn't pro-life is utterly rediculous. Nevermind the fact he gave this interview weeks ago. Who are steele's handlers? Did they used to work for Britney Spears or something????
SO far this has been one of the most crazy politcal implosions I have seen in some time-yes Mr. Steele I have my popcorn ready and I can't wait for you next "off the hook move." |
