Do Terrorists Read Newspapers?
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:57 AM
The Wall Street Journal's Bret Stevens wonders whether terrorists are absorbing the worst narratives about their enemies that the media can serve up, thus allowing the killers to justify to themselves their atrocities.

Sensationalism can have terrible consequences, Stevens warns:

But it's worth wondering why a media that treats nearly every word uttered by the U.S., British or Israeli governments as inherently suspect has proved so consistently credulous when it comes to every dubious or defamatory claim made against those governments. Or, for that matter, why the media has been so intent on magnifying genuine scandals (like Abu Ghraib) to the point that they become the moral equivalent of 9/11. Some caution is in order: Terrorists, of all people, might actually believe what they read in the papers.

I still haven't found one MSM article pondering whether the New York Times'/Los Angeles Times' compromise of the Swift program two years ago might have made the task of tracking and discovering the Mumbai terrorists more difficult.  It is the sort of question I guess we shouldn't expect the MSM to ponder.

Perhaps after terrorists strike the U.S. with WMD, media critics will begin to wonder whether the self-anointed guardians of the truth within the MSM were really serving the public's interest or their own.

OBAMINATION DEFIES SUPREME COURT - AGAIN
The latest in the failure of Obama to produce his birth certificate, as required by law. If he's got a legal U.S. birth certificate, why doesn't he simply produce it? The one he put up on his WEB site, soon after he was asked about it, was clearly a fake It has been declared a forgery by experts. (gees...I could have made a better forgery than that) and when called on the fact that it was phony, he promptly removed it from the WEB site.

It should be obvious to everyone by now...he doesn't have one, because he isn't a citizen. Is he really that arrogant or did he figure in his "smug self-righteousness" that the issue would simply go away? Even his own grandmother, when questioned, stated unequivocally that he was born in Kenya. Will the Democrats then attempt to change the law, because they now control the Congress?

The Speaker of The House, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has already threatened to dissolve the Electoral College. (so fraud will be easier) Wouldn't surprise me they'd try something of the sort (it certainly wouldn't be the first time)!

WILL "SCOTUS" (Supreme Court of The United States) SOUTER TELL OBAMA TO PRODUCE BIRTH CERTIFICATE DECEMBER 1 UPDATED:

This is interesting. Souter tells Obama to produce the vault copy by December 1, 2008. (I believe the messiah will defy the Justices.)

Who will force the issue? Who wants to open up that Pandora's box? Imagine if there is something on that birth certificate that disqualifies Obama from the office of the President. What are you going to do? Start a civil war? There will be blood in the streets if the government try's to enforce the rule of law. This should have happened before the election. (Obamination knows it too.)

Neo
I'm ambivalent about who posts. I think their ideas, or lack of, are obvious to anyone who cares to read them or think about them.

I am, however, offended by overwhelming stupidity and those who are obviously just being provovative for its own sake and aren't interested in honest dialogue.

This Rachoe/Coldplay/jamesbondi is the former. Who goes through the process of having multiple handles to rant about "fundys"?

PL is the latter. He comes here and posits nonsense like this latest McCarthy string, acts offended when he's derided, and chastises everyone for not "addressing the substance of the question". That's the equivalent to asking a lefty site "did you know Obama is a pederast?" and reacting the same as PL. Give me a break.

Unforgivable
The actions of the MSM is a terrible terrible exercise in selfish self-advancement. The illuminati liberals who write these stories and report them are simply out for the pure gain. I have failed time and again to find a real journalist within the MSM these days.

COLDPLAYLOVER writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 2:38 PM
Hatred is hatred
whether it comes from Muslims or Christians or Mormons. Only a matter of degree of how hatred is manifested.

Frankly, there is little difference between denying people who are born gay their equal rights under our Constitution and killing them. Either way, you dehumanize people. Christians think that gays will never go to heaven--that is their little secret punishment, God will damn gays eternally so the Christian fundamentalists may wash their hands of the entire exercise like Pontius Pilate. That's kind of cute, don't you think? You want the same thing as Muslim extremists, you just don't want to dirty your hands. That pesky little thing called a Constitution keeps infringing on all the Taliban like laws you would love to impose--abortion bans, birth control bans, no sex ed, no gay marriage, no premarital sex.

It is an ugly recognition to be sure--that you are on the same team of intolerance with fundy Islam. You Christian fundys just get to hide behind that God you think will punish the infidels in the afterlife.

There you are Miss Bondi,
did you read my question to you several threads ago? If not let me rephrase, you being so closely in touch with the Prop 8 issue. Here is the question. You people have been raising hell, and directing it at Christians and Mormons. You know, invading places of worship, accosting people as they go into church, burning Bibles, throwing shyte inside the churches, you know all the normal things you adherents like to do. How come you have not directed any of these same hijinks at Muslims, and their places of worships, you know, Mosques. They voted 100% for Prop 8, and have been quite outspoken in their support of it. And as I'm sure your aware of, they typically execute lesbos and homos in their country's. So, there, Miss Bondi, how come NO reciprocation, no quid pro quo? May i venture a guess, could it be that you do not wish to have that head of yours, separated from that scrawny body of yours. Could that be it, Miss Bondi?

Miss Bondi, the least of your worries is Mormons and Christians, it's Muslims and Islam. Have you checked the birth rates in these Muslim countries, and what is their median age. Go check it out, if you dare. Then compare it to Western counties, and what is their median age. You see Miss Bondi, Islam is growing exponentially, and at a rate that will soon outpace Christians and Mormons. And may i remind you, Miss Bondi, and while I'm at it, you too, "loony lonny", we Christians, we disagree with your lifestyle, but it ends there, but with Muslims, it does not stop there, no no, you see they most certainly disagree, but it don't stop there, no, no, it's a capital offense in Islam. So you see Miss Bondi, and you too, "loony", not only will you have to go back into the closet, hell your going to have to go under the damn, house. Because they don't tolerate you in any form or fashion. In that day, you will say that these days were the "good old days". When you could go throw shyte at Christians and Mormons.

COLDPLAYLOVER writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 2:17 PM
It isn't the absence of an attack
that is the point. It is the fact that we have no idea WHY there have been no attacks in USA in 7 years. There were none for 8 years after 1993, right? Why? Because of what Clinton did? I doubt any of you would say that, right? So, why is it anything this administration is doing? You act like the terrorists check in with our government and give them updates, reports..we were going to bomb Atlanta on Christmas Day 2006, but what you were doing in Iraq scared us out of doing it?

I tend to think that the absence of attacks means nothing. Remember the old joke...guy on street in NYC wearing a pith helmet and safari outfit, carrying a fake gun, clearly bonkers, is asked what he is doing. He says he is hunting tigers. Other person says, but there are no tigers around here, and the nutter says, see, I've been effective. That's kind of what goes on with our government. So long as nothing bad happens, we think they are doing their jobs. When something bad happens, we say they are not doing their jobs.

If Obama changes nothing in how Bush has done things, and an attack happens in let's say May 2009, will you say that is Obama's fault, even though nothing has changed, all anti-terrorism stuff and people remain the same? Of course you will.
cottoneyed writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 1:56 PM
Wow, now isn't this just rich and
typical of leftist "thinking"! Yes just because the country has not sustained a terrorist attack since 9/11, well by golly, in leftistville, you see that means nothing. Why, well because Bush is President, and no credit can ever be given to him, no no, no sirree, Bush bad, no credit can be given. This passes for critical thinking in liberalville.

It's your watch now, Fan Tan, and there better not ever be an attack, here. Cause you told us that obambi is universally loved, and that peace, harmony and brotherhood would break out upon his being elected. We are watching!

What is wrong with the word Mumbai?

And when did the State Dept. warn American tourists about Mumbai?

Terrorists should be the only people
who read American newspapers. They are in agreement, for all practical purposes. I have not had home delivery of either Denver paper in 10 years. They are little more than left wing propaganda, and not worth the read. We don't own a bird, so what the hell good would they be!

Do you people really think like Hewitt?
that somehow the press causes these events to happen?

WTC 1993

WTC 2001.

Just because there has not been an attack in US in 7 years means nothing. It does not mean that the Bush Administration has done anything at all.

Mumbai shows that when terrorists wish to strike, they will. The only thing that angers me is the fact that our government apparently knew about the Mumbai threats, yet let citizens travel there without any notice.

Our Govt is likely know how the next attack will happen, but they are not saying.
Kenny Z writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 12:30 PM
MSM
Of course terrorists read the mainstream media blurbs, they reveal our latest methods for preventing terrorism and name luscious targets to hit and spell out plans to do so.
DP in So Cal writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 12:04 PM
The goal of the terrorists
Is to strike terror into the hearts of the rest of mankind, thus causing submission. If what the MSM is preaching is submission (or, its watered-down cousin, "tolerance"), then the MSM is not serving mankind.

The goal of the terrorists is not to achieve fame and glory through sensationalist reporting. That is the motivation for serial killers.

The MSM serves mankind when it reports the facts.
Tea Party writes: Tuesday, December, 02, 2008 9:58 AM
We
should regard the MSM as a fifth column, giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Of course they read, and listen to our media and they take special note of the self absorbed power mad politicians that voted for the war before they were against it. These same politicians who haven't a problem with defying the Logan act because they are above the law. No law applies to the left libs in media or politics.
If and when we are hit, there will be enough
anger against both groups to go around..I can't decide which of the two are lower than cockroaches, if not lower. Parasites?

Just what failures are you referring to? The ones where he kept us safe or the economy flowing or working with a crazed Democrat Congress or working with an extremely hostile media or...I think you're just nuts. That said, I also think it's obivous, you've been listening to that hostile media, too bad. They're wrong.

If terrorist successfully attack the USA
with WMDs, I think anti-war MSM types best run and hide... because, in the confusion that follows, they might be mistaken for terrorists and shot down in the street...

BTW, I still don't own a firearm; but there are a lot of folks out there that do... And some of them are pretty angry, if the talk I hear is to be believed...

Liberals
Most "journalists" are liberals, and liberals hate America. This is not complicated. Liberals are the enemies of the United States, and of all that is good. Liberals must be destroyed.
