This post isn't even about this, but do you realize that if Pelosi were honest and just said, "Even though I'm Catholic, my view is different than the Church." Or some such variation, she wouldn't have gotten any rebukes from anyone. She is having the problem becasue she tried twist things to fit her position. Any institution has the right to correct people who are misinformed about their position. I also don't get the argument that "most Catholics do this or that..." So what? Religion doesn't exist to conform to what is easy for people to do. As a lifetime Catholic who attended a Jesuit high school, I never ran into any problems with any priest or lay person associated with the church. I did run into people who gave their lives to help teach. I did run into people who spent years in Nigeria doing charitable work. I spent weeks in Appalachia Kentucky digging ditches, visiting hospitals, helping to build houses, and that was run by Catholic missionaries out of Cincy. Does anything excuse abuse of any kind? No. But when you start bashing, just remember that a high percentage of what comes out is benefiting people. |
