Confident in His Charm?

A new Gallup poll shows that the selection of Joe Biden isn't having much of an impact on the Obama campaign's popularity. 14% of voters say the selection of "Slow Joe" makes them more likely to support the ticket; 7% say they're less likely; for 72%, it makes no difference.
Most of the time, of course, veep nominations have less upside than downside potential. But it's worth wondering whether the response would have been so anemic to the selection of Hillary Clinton.
What's more, although the Biden pick was aimed at remediating Barack's weaknesses with regular voters, it also spoke volumes about the candidate's confidence in himself and his own charm when it comes to winning back Hillary's supporters. Apparently, he feels that his base (and hers) has nowhere else to go, and he's willing to gamble that Hillary's appeal was more demographic (or ideological) than personal.
He could be right; I guess we'll see.

Biden will shore up Obama's lack of foreign policy experience, yet Obama has claimed the places he has lived has given him more foreign policy experience than McCain. So, if the "one" had all the requirements why did he go with Biden?
Chosing Biden gives new meaning to that 3am phone call. Obama will have to either put off answering the phone or put them on hold while he makes a call to Biden to get information on what he should do.

Like Britt Hume said this morning on Fox Sunday, Biden is a genuinely nice guy. He won't hurt Obama and most of the Hillary holdouts will come around. |

I think everyone will be surprised how many let go of their noses before November. |

The GOP has already takem that lurch left. I'm just waiting for Sen. Stick-In-The-Eye to name Hillary or Lieberman as his VP so we can see how much excrement the GOP bobbleheads will eat. |

Big mistake! The Obamagans have served McCain a gift with the Biden VP. He foolishly disrespects 18 "million" Hillary supporters for a light-weight Biden, who only had "thousands" of voters! How smart is that? Clinton has more then Foreign Relations experience and Insider wherewithall, she has it ALL, the best of the rest! The unwise, insecure Obama must have been afraid the king and queen of politics would show them up. The Obamas can't hold a candle to the Clintons! We will not forget the slap in Hills., face to pick a man for no better reason?! With Hill he could win, with Biden he must defend! When they lose they can cry on each others shoulders! Go McCain, Ex Democrat |

Nate Silver over at TNR has a good post on this:
What's noteworthy is not so much that Biden will turn a lot of McCain voters on -- Tim Kaine and Hillary Clinton would have done a better job of that -- but that he'll turn very few Obama voters off. As a result, this method projects a net swing of 2 points toward Obama, which is better than he'd do with any of the other candidates. Biden also performed quite well in these ratings among undecided (43-22 favorable) and third-party (45-36 favorable) voters, though the sample sizes are probably too small to be worth worrying about.

it is not lost on Clinton supporters that Obama picked someone who voted for the war after spending the primary bashing Hillary over her vote. His hypocrisy has no end. |

How about the Green party? Or how about we just stay home? Those are very valid choices which have very real consequences for Obama. |

For a few years, my hubby, kgk, has been blogging on such political gaffes as BO picking Joe. Now we blog together: http//kgkkaty.townhall.blogspot.com and him at phillyfanatic.spaces.live.com/ He is from Pa. and Jersey so he knows Joe well. Many Delaware voters want BO to win to get rid of Joe. We won't go that far. Delaware is already in the Dem slot and has a Dem guv. Mike Castle is the only Pub around. It is endemic that voters see how weak BO is and that the Messiah chose Joe for some gravitas. After seeing the new RNC ads using Joe against BO, it seems mouthy gravitas may not be enough. We shall see. |
