Draft Wilberforce '08
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 12:18 PM

I've heard of Draft Newt and Americans for Rice, but Draft Wilberforce may have them all beat.

As their website says, Draft Wilberforce '08 is ...

... the movement to get eighteenth century British reformer William Wilberforce to lead America ... He has united people of all races, faiths and political beliefs with a new vision of leadership – marked by conviction, courage and the common good. Wilberforce leads with a spirit of civility and collaboration. From PETA to Focus on the Family, Americans are coming together to say “we need William Wilberforce today.”

Finally, a candidate who unites us!

did any of them see "Amazing Grace" ?

Matt,

Speaking of Wilberforce, while many conservatives complain about the lack of quality family-friendly fare being produced by the film industry, "Amazing Grace" has only made $17.2 thus far at the domestic box office.
Divide that number by the price of an average priced movie ticket, and that will give you an idea of how few people who complain about the lack of quality, 'family-friendly' fare with a Christian protagonist (!) actually went to their local cineplex to put their money where their mouths are during this film's theatrical run.
And if they're not animated enough to go see a movie about him, I'm having difficulty seeing where that translates into a successful "Draft Wilberforce" campaign, even if it is campaign just for fun.

Nonetheless, had "Amazing Grace" performed better at the box office, it sure would make it a heck of a lot easier for similarly themed films to get greenlighted in the future.
