Everybody monger those holiday grievances!
Yes, there's a glimpse of Michael Richards in this week's HamNation, and no, I'm not condoning his racist comments of last week by including a TV character he once played in my vlog. And, if you can't figure that out, you're probably a Lefty who wandered over here.
Update: This is for you, Preston.
Oh, the shame.

|
Any chance of seeing you in Tar Heel Blue?
In really cool football news, my alma mater is celebrating its third state title in high school football int he last five years. Now if only the Patriots could follow suit... |

gnosys,
In your overly-ambitious attempt to lecture Miss Ham on facts, you armed yourself with inaccurate facts, illogic, and topped it all of by slipping on a banana peel on your way out the door---hardly an impressive performanace, Sir.
You stated that the "FIVE" imams were flying on "SOUTHWEST."
Better check the facts, bud, because it was actually SIX imams flying on US AIRWAYS.
You characterize the imams as "loyal Americans." I do not know whether or not they are "loyal Americans"---and neither do you---but it is merely an emotional ploy by you to argue that you "know" that they are.
Neither you, nor any of us were actually present at the time of the incident. Thus, we must all rely on the eyewitness accounts as they've been reported. The numerous eyewitnesses explained the SAME facts to investigators. The questioning of witnesses is done individually so that another person's account does not influence that of another---that's even how it's done for a routine traffic accident.
Additionally, you attempt to discredit the imams' request for seat belt extensions by attacking the "signifigance" of the conclusion regarding the request for seat belt extensions.
Actually, that undermines your whole argument that all the allegations can easily be refuted, since you are conceding that the FACT that they DID request seat belt extensions IS ACCURATE. Of course, the average person wants to know, "Why do six men who are not fat need seat belt extensions ?" Homeland Security wants to know, as well.
Our judicial system is incumbent upon facts, not emotions. Thus, the principle concern is NOT to ask, WHY did they do what they did, rather, is it FACTUALLY ACCURATE that they did what they are alleged ?
You continued your assault on logic when you stated the following to Miss Ham; "Ms. Ham, I can't blame you for passing along this story as you probably heard or read it reported in the news media. However, I do hope you'll issue a correction -- if you believe it's warranted -- when the facts have been better established."
gnosys, your above statement contradicts yourself tremendously.
On the one hand, you have attacked Miss Ham for misreporting facts, yet you admit that the facts have yet to be "better established." IF the facts have YET to be established (as you claim), how DO YOU KNOW that Miss Ham has misreported them---but most of all, if the facts have YET to be better established, how can you currently defend the imams against the allegations ?
Additionally, you FIRST blamed Miss Ham for misreporting facts, BUT later in your rant you say,"I CAN'T BLAME YOU for passing along this story as you probably heard or read it reported in the news media."
As you concluded your rant, you attempted to play the David Duke/Fred Phelps card at Republicans. Unfortunately for you, you slipped on that banana peel.
The problem with your attempted insult is Fred Phelps is a DEMOCRAT---not a Republican. And David Duke has been repudiated by the GOP. But if you want to highlight racist politicians, look no further than the Democrats' own conscience in the name of Senator Robert Byrd, former kleagle in the KKK. You can even turn back the clock merely a few weeks, as the Democrats' House Majority Leader-elect, Steny Hoyer, referred to Maryland Republican Senate candidate (who happens to be black) Michael Steele as "SLAVISH to the Republican party."
gnosys, your Daily Kos musings may play with the "I hate America-Israel-Karl Rove-capitalism" crowd over at MoveOn.org, but it doesn't pass the smell test over here.

MK:
Wrong color orange darlin'. Even though I live in the great state of GA, UT Burnt Orange with all their losing of late, would look better on you. It would go better with your eyes and your politics.
Hook 'em Horns!!!! |
|
It would help your rant if you started with at least getting your first 'fact' right. The number of Imams isn't even an issue yet you fail to nail that one.
Unless you happen to be one of the 'five', then your information would be just as suspect as anyone else's. I tend to believe the crew/passengers about the seating arrangements, etc. The police also stated that 2 of the Imams were seated in 1st class yet had no 1st class tickets (2 per exit, hmmm) and the fact that the seatbelt extenders were never used but .. needed?
And yes, they were intending to be thrown off the plane, now that it happened, they can claim 'flying by Muslim' and have sit-ins in major airports and offer litigation to the airlines (already happened, both counts) |
|
Lefty though I may be, I was with you on your Christmas message -- particularly the inanity of excluding a movie about the Nativity from a manifestly Christmas-themed festival -- until you got around to attacking the five imams who were taken off a Southwest flight. Except for praying (which they did quietly in two separate groups in out-of-the-way areas) and requesting seatbelt extenders (which were indeed needed -- and obviously so -- by the two who requested them), the imams engaged in none of the provocative activities you mentioned -- despite bogus and in most cases easy-to-refute claims made at various times by Southwest spokespeople.
These men are not rabble-rousers. They are middle-aged, loyal American citizens. One is blind. Another has worked extensively with police forces and the FBI, giving presentations on Islamic customs; he has been a leader in urging his community to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Despite quietly and unquestioningly following the directions of the officers who asked them to leave the plane, the imams were led through the terminal in handcuffs and held for five or six hours. Although they were totally cleared by the police, Southwest refused to place them on another flight or even help them to get ticketed on another airline.
These men fully understand the concerns and fears of airlines and their passengers. There is no excuse, however, for the rude and humiliating way they were treated, or for the disinformation which was disseminated. (Consider for a moment the bizarre allegations -- that they loudly made anti-American statements and sat in the same seats as the 9/11 hijackers, for instance. What would be the point of this? Do you imagine that they were INTENDING to be thrown off the plane, in order to make a fuss and perhaps sue? Is that really likely, especially considering their backgrounds? What are the chances anyone would even notice their pattern of seating or their request for seatbelt extenders as significant?)
Ms. Ham, I can't blame you for passing along this story as you probably heard or read it reported in the news media. However, I do hope you'll issue a correction -- if you believe it's warranted -- when the facts have been better established. Too often commentators (Bill O'Reilly springs to mind) neglect to set the record straight when they are proven wrong.
I'd also like you to know that there are plenty of lefties (I dare say most, at least here in America) who treasure Christmas as much as you do... although many of us believe it more threatened by crass commercialization than by the occasional overzealous interpretation of the separation of chruch and state. We also believe in the family, even if we may find it more threatened by the stress of financial insecurity than by gay marriage, and in the American way of life, even if we think it cannot be protected by the surrender of either our liberties or our principles.
(There are extremists on the left, of course, but they no more represent mainstream liberal values than David Duke and the Reverend Fred Phelps represent the right.) |

You're name betrays you, ya smelly hippie. That, and your lack of a sense of humor. Lighten up, buddy!

MK, I couldn't care less about football, but I wanted to let you know that I just showed this post to my 16-year-old son, and he thinks you're "awesome." So do I. Besides the fact that your parents had the good taste to give you the same first and middle name as that of my wife, you prove again and again that conservatives are the ones who can bring on the funny.

to be born a Kentucky Wildcat but I admit I secretly enjoy Tennessee Football. They actually know how to play and who can resist "Rocky Top"? I live in Dawgland now and, appropriately, root for them until they play the Cats. Thanks for the W this year;) |

No offense, but who's doing your greenscreen and compositing for you? That could be a lot cleaner even in the oft abused YouTube streaming format. |
