Mel Martinez as RNC Chair.
He'll be doing that and the Senate gig.
A Steele chairmanship and a Pence/Shadegg House leadership takeover would really have helped me warm back up the Republican Party in this cold, cold time, but the first is a bust and the second ain't looking great. Guess I'll remain chilly, as will much of the base. Feel the love.
How does Martinez score on the all-important immigration issue, which undoubtedly kept many Republicans ticked off enough to stay on their duffs this year? Oh.
I really want a reason to be excited about these guys and they refuse to give me one.

The Democrats have their blue dogs, perhaps it's time we Republicans start a Blue Dog Conservative Republican Party. Losing the election was tough enough, now the moderates are rubbing it in by appointing their intimates to key functions. McCain, Guiliani and Romney are heralded by the MSM as the leading candidates for pres., no thanks, someone with a voice has to come forward and stop this madness...who will it be? |

The GOP base was sent a shock wave by picking a pro-amnesty Mel Martinez as the Republican Party Chairman. It seems clear now, that President Bush will push his open border agenda with the help of Nancy Pelosi lead Congress. Mel Martinez job will be to control GOP Party decent from Congress, with the promise of new Hispanic voters.
Palm Beach Post
Signaling a new direction for the Republican Party, which had heavy losses in the Hispanic community in last week’s elections, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez appeared ready Monday to become the party’s new general chairman while retaining his Senate seat.
Martinez thrust himself into the contentious debate over immigration, helping craft the Senate version of a comprehensive immigration bill that would offer a route to eventual citizenship for longtime illegal residents while requiring others to leave the U.S.
Michele Waslin, director of immigration policy at the National Council of La Raza, is hopeful Martinez and his GOP allies will make the right moves.
Is the GOP selling-out the Base with pushing an open border agenda? Does anyone think that the GOP lost the election due to the immigration issue?

Today's _Washington Times_ alerted me to this article:
10 November 2006 The gloves are off by Melanie Morgan http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52886 too often Bush and his Republican colleagues in Congress rebuffed conservative solutions to the problems facing America. You know the issues of betrayal that have angered conservative activists the most: amnesty plans for illegal aliens, massive federal spending, multiple corruption scandals, the prescription drug plan, Harriet Miers, etc. Even when it came to the war against terrorism there were too many times when cut-and-run voices managed to neuter the Bush administration from taking the fight to the terrorists and aggressively selling the case for war to the public. ==
Our president is moving in a direction that, I fear, will result in more terrorist attacks on American soil, if he is left unchecked by political pressure. And that's where you come in. My philosophy in dealing with political enemies is that when they hit you, you hit back twice as hard. The anti-war left's election victory this Tuesday has hit this country with an attack more serious to our nation's future than was 9-11. Now is not the time to allow Republicans in Congress or in the White House to sell out to Pelosi, Reid and the cut-and-run crowd. It's time to take the gloves off and fight for the cause we believe in, even if that means fighting members from within our own family from time to time.

Rove's pick of Miers got shot down. Let's shoot down Rove's pick of Martinez, and get Steele made RNC chair.
14 November 2006 "Florida's Martinez tapped for RNC chief" _The Washington Times_ http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20061114-123344-8613r.htm The surprise Martinez appointment, leaked yesterday to selected TV outlets and wire services, cut off a move by conservative Republicans to have Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele take over the national party chairmanship. == Some RNC members, already dismayed by last week's election that swept Republicans from control of Congress, expressed anger at the way Mr. Rove leaked his choice of Mr. Martinez immediately after a conference call in which the Florida senator's name was floated for the first time. == "But Rove and Mehlman never said they were going to name these people as chairmen, and we never voted or even gave our opinion," the member said. The move was seen as a signal that the White House intends to push through Congress the "comprehensive" immigration bill-- which Mr. Martinez and Mr. Hagel backed in the Senate-- that was blocked by conservative Republicans in the House.

What happened for the need of fresh faces??? Steele, Pence and Shadegg were the "dream team". Martinez, Boehner and Blunt...UGH! Pro-Illegal Immigration Martinez is sad choice when they had a stellar candidate like Steele. |

The latest steps by the Republican Party and the RNC Chairmanship decision convinces me that the leaders of the Republican party are convinced that we (conservatives or libertarians) have no other choice than vote republican or democrat. I have come to the conclusion that I will be a cold day in hell beforw I ever vote for a republican in a national election again, including Senator or Representative. George Bush has turned out to be our worst nightmare and I honestly believe that he has forsaken all the commitments he has made in the last 5 years and is searching for a legacy! UGH |
|
- A Bush hack to head the RNC - Bush on his way to Vietnam to figure out how many more jobs he can get sent overseas
They are really on the right track and have the pulse of the conservative base.
GOP is done in 2008. They can not change their ways. |

Repub1 "No, he's too black! Let's get someone with a Messican last name." Repub2 "Yeah! That oughtta do it". Repub1 "You reckon we should talk to our constituents about who should lead?" Repub2 "Naw, they don't pay as well as them lobbyists! Don't rock the boat, son!" Snicker, snicker, snicker. Snort.
Then we, the voters, get lectured about abandonment. |
|
Since the Pres. is a Repubican (Yea I know, up for debate)that maybe he had some influence here? Isn't he considered the leader of the party?
That would help explain an RNC chairman with a rotten (pun intended) immigration stance.
Global/regional unification accusers have been called crackpots, but if it quacks like a duck, has feathers like a duck, builds its' nest like a duck, it could be...union. |

I really hope Republicans are getting rid of the idea of granting amnesty to illegal aliens. I switched to the Republican party based on this issue. I as have many of my friends voted for Republican candidates based on there firm stance on immigration but if Republicans are going to push for granting amnesty I may as well vote for a Democrat. |

To be honest, nobody other than political junkies like ourselves cares who chairs the RNC or the House Republicans. I mean come on. Who chaired the RNC and the House Republicans in 1979-80 before Reagan's victory? The answer is the same sort of squishes and nobodies who will be holding those posts in 2007-08. And you know what? It didn't deter Reagan's voters and it won't deter anyone either in two years. |
|
What happened, was Libby Dole tied up? It's begginning to look like a long way back. At leasr Dr. Frist is gone in January.
I'm 54 and waited most of my life for a Republican Congress.
My heart is bbroken. |

This statement has just come across the wires: "Although I was one of contenders for this post, I believe that President Bush has made a good decision in this case, and I wish Senator Martinez the best of luck in his new role. Signed, Vicente Fox." |
|
"How does Martinez score on the all-important immigration issue, which undoubtedly kept many Republicans ticked off enough to stay on their duffs this year?"
I certainly hope those folks are satisfied with their 'victory.' |

The Republican leadership could be plotting to murder the base while we sleep and then replace us with cheap Mexican labor, but there's very little indication that's true. |
