MovingOn (From Clinton)

The New York Times profiles Bill Clinton's role in Senator Clinton's presidential bid, and his anger at the refusal of the Democrats to swoon and serve is palpable:
More than anything, Mr. Clinton is increasingly angry with the news media over what he sees as overly critical coverage of Mrs. Clinton and kinder treatment of Mr. Obama, advisers said.
They say he allowed that frustration to spill over on “The Charlie Rose Show” on Friday night, when he criticized the news media as forgoing tough scrutiny of Mr. Obama. The advisers said he also believed that the Obama camp was persuading the reporters to focus on gaffes by his wife and her campaign, like the recent Clinton campaign statement that Mr. Obama harbored presidential ambitions even in kindergarten, and a campaign official’s remark last week about Mr. Obama’s past drug use.
The claim of inevitability has clearly rubbed many Democrats the wrong way, and Bill's "anger" at the media is thinly disguised disgust with Democratic primary voters, a disgust that isn't going to charm them back to Hillary's camp. Democrats may be embracing a party-wide decision to dump the baggage and the Boomers and, as the group says, move on.

You made the statement that you would not vote for Huckabee over Hillary or Obama in the general should he win.
I am curious if he is the only GOP candidate you feel that way about. Would Rudy, Thompson, or McCain all get your vote, if Romney goes down in defeat (and assuming none of them picked him as VP)
Thanks. |

Well, sorry. buddy. Even Ted Williams didn't bat 1.000. I am gratified by your kind words and mild temperament. I'll try to bring my game up, but, as I have said before, mine is the low road to salvation. |
On the one hand, the first black president speaks so we have to listen. But, he's married to a white woman. But, he also cheats on her so that makes him sophisticated like the Europeans.
Then the smartest woman in the world is running so we have to vote for her. But she rode the coattails of and stood by her cheatin' husband. Hmm.
Then there is the clean "eloquent" black man running and we must vote for him to show that we're not racists. But he may not be black enough. Gosh, I just don't know who to vote for.
I know! Why doesn't Hillary do the right thing and step aside to show that she and Bill are really for diversity?! Problem solved. |
There are many bloggers, but very few whose opinion I valued more than Hugh's. I guess that's why his conduct has disappointed me along with so many others (Iowahawk, Ace, Geraghty, McCullough and so many others).
I'm currently backing Rudy, but if Mitt wins the nomination, I will definitely support him in the general. Hillary/Obama would be a disaster. |
"If you want to support your candidate, make sure your words don't drive people away from him. Because Mr. Hewitt has definitely driven me away by turning into the "Sid Blumenthal" of Team Romney. It's a sad fall for a fine man."
What would be sad would be to let the enthusiastic support (or opposition) of a single blogger (or commenters on that blogger's site) be the deciding factor in your choice for next President of the United States.
I think there are much better criteria on which to judge a candidate...
If you want equal opportunity insult, go to a pro-Huckabee or pro-Paul site (I assume there are plenty) and post something positive about Romney. I'm sure the resulting barrage will drive you away from them as well. Heck, post something pro-Romney in the comments on *this* blog and watch what crawls out of the woodwork. Denying that all people who don't like Romney are bigots is completely correct and rational. But denying that there hasn't been a disturbing amount of *actual bigotry* and irrational hate spewed here would be equally irrational.
And if the pro-Romney spin here has turned you off to Romney, what has the insane amount of anti-Romney invective done? Again, regarding topics completely unrelated to the presidential campaign? They don't like his hair. Polygamy is weird. He wears funny underwear. Blah, blah, blah.
One commenter (raven, I believe) claimed the primary reason he was voting for Huckabee was because Hugh Hewitt opposed him. Yeah, there's some solid decision-making about casting your vote! |
It surprised me to hear something like that from someone whom I have read good arguments from, and is not just a drive-by poster (no offense to "drivebyposter." Hope I got the name right), dropping wonderful lines of widsom like "michelle malkin is an anchor baby."
It reminded me of being in the 6th grade when the New Kids on the Block were all the rage with the girls. They thought I didn't like them because I was "just jealous" of them, when their music actually just sucked. |

"I know you're going to inspect me. You can look inside my mouth if you want." - Hillary Clinton, campaigning in Iowa
Um, thank Hillary. I think I'll pass... |
First, thank you for responding.
You stated, "I'm referring to are the *actual* trolls, haters, and bigots who infest this site."
I've been wrongly called all three on Hugh's blog several times. Needless to say, this has done serious damage to Mitt's brand among my friends and I. "Vote for Romney you stupid bigot," is not a terribly compelling bumper sticker.
If you want to support your candidate, make sure your words don't drive people away from him. Because Mr. Hewitt has definitely driven me away by turning into the "Sid Blumenthal" of Team Romney. It's a sad fall for a fine man.

Is grossly over rated.
His tawdry White House behavior cost the Democrats dearly: 2000 was Gore's to walk away with-the fact that it was close was a result of Clinton.
The Democrats poo-poo it, but the Clintons destroyed the Democratic hopes for a long, long run in the White House and the Congress.
The best thing the Dems could do would be to MoveOn. |
"BTW, CDubber, calling your fellow conservatives "trolls," "haters," and "bigots" for simply preferring a different primary candidate"
inkling, I'm not referring to people who prefer a different candidate. I say choose your candidate intelligently, and argue the merits of his/her positions. That's what political discourse is *supposed* to be about.
What I'm referring to are the *actual* trolls, haters, and bigots who infest this site.
If the shoe fits...
I'd love to see some actual discussion that revolved around *policy differences* of the different candidates. You know, topics other than religion or hair. And I see very little of that in the comments board of this blog. |
I will go now but as a mother of three who quarrelled regularly I am just going to say this once. "You Repubs had better start getting along or I'm going to make you kiss each other!" The ultimate threat of punishment from a Republican woman! The primaries will be over soon enough. Be nice. |
The claim of Romney inevitability has clearly rubbed many Republicans the wrong way, and Hugh's "anger" at the media is thinly disguised disgust with Republican primary voters, a disgust that isn't going to charm them back to Romney's camp.
BTW, CDubber, calling your fellow conservatives "trolls," "haters," and "bigots" for simply preferring a different primary candidate is no way to win us to your side. Unless your real goal is to ensure we don't support Mitt if he wins the nomination... |
IF you were THE Betsy Wright, holder of the keys to the Billy Clinton warehouse of 30+ years of Bimbidge Records! Would I ever have multitudes of questions for you...Yow-zaaa!
But, on your comment: Bubba may want Lady MacClinton to win in his frontal lobe. But, subconsciously--maybe consciously, as well--he ain't rooting for Mama. There can only be one Presidential Legacy(Cough!!)in that family. Can't risk her having an actual worthy one. And, we ARE in Large Times of War(and Legacies).
Once ya lock on to the Malignant Narcissism at his Center, all else can be understood. Ba-da-bing. |
Yeah I can be junior high. I'm also as old as the rocks. What of it? Doesn't scripture say we are to draw from our store both old and new?!
I just thought it was funny, that's all. I've heard that Clinton is kind of shy around women, although to hear Republicans tell it, he was the biggest reprobate in history--or since JFK (who at least deserved his reputation).. |
Women Bill really liked: Jennifer, Paula, Juanita,Kathleen, Monica, and many many unnamed black women (according to Andy Young!) |
Could we have pegged the Billy Rod Bob better......he will defend HIS WOMAN!hahahh "No one, and I mean no one, humiliates her....but ME!!!!" |
I'm with you on this. Fight the good fight. |
You know, I try to make it a point not to personally attack posters...
...but, seriously, are you in junior high? |
because the failure to hold him accountable was partially responsible for Bush being elected. Clinton-Bush, the two worst presidents this nation has ever been cursed with. |
isn't Bill the guy who got the girl[s]? |
You made me almost choke! Very funny. |
"there was slick Willie, pulling nothing but A's and driving off with the girl you liked.."
Hillary was the girl we liked? *shudder*
Hey, whatever floats your boat, PL. |
Wow, we made it up to 9 comments before some Romney hater twisted a non-Romney story into an anti-Romney story!
Nice work, Jsmith. Hey, maybe next time we can make it to 10!
Cue the pile-on by Sarah, Jane, richard_223, JamesB, Peak Oil, and the rest of the Usual Suspects.
Unleash the trolls! |
..because he was the kid who got good grades AND got all the chicks. There you were, busting your fanny on the gridiron and then going home to sweat out B's and C's, and there was slick Willie, pulling nothing but A's and driving off with the girl you liked.. |
I thought your supporters wanted only posts that criticized Huckabee. Your kind of going off the beaten path by posting about Hillary! LOL |
his breath bad things about Hillary. |
i see a parallel on the GOP side..
Hugh's anger is palpable regarding the GOP voters refusal to swoon to his favorite's candidacy as well as keeping McCain afloat.. |
And it surely erks him that if Hillary cannot even get the nomination, his own record and reputation will suffer.
Hill-arious.
You don't want to see Bill angry. |
just makes my whole danged Monday!! |
THAT's the perfect job for her.. |
As someone who has been for Barack all along, and who saw that interview with Rose, I can say that it is not my impression that Bill Clinton is disgusted with me. It is a campaign. Tempers are frayed. That's life. The real contempt in this election, it seems to me, is the contempt directed by the Republican elite and other Foxnews conservatives towards the Hucksters.
Be that as may, I do think Democratic voters are put off by the bum's rush they have been getting from Clintonite muckity-mucks, Democratic leadership, the media in particular, and even the Republicans, all of whom, for varying reasons, wanted HRC to get the nomination. Democracy has a way of asserting itself, even in a stupid system like ours. Inside-the-beltway types of all stripes tend to get ahead of themselves. The voters have limited power in our country, but some of the time, in some situations, they may confound the experts.
I have followed politics closely since 1966, and one thing I know, with reference to political prognostications and the conventional wisdom, is that the tails are fat and the bell curve is skinny. |
But this is a great quote:
“First they came for the redneck trolls, and I did not speak out because I was not a redneck troll. Then they came for the male chauvinist pigs, and I did not speak out because I was not a male chauvinist pig. Then they came for Mark Steyn, and I did not speak out because I was not Mark Steyn. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

Clinton (Bill) obviously loved being President. Unfortunately his tantrums aside, Hillary Clinton is no Gypsy Rose Lee.
That is okay, he can keep raising millions from the Saudis for his library and stay on the road where he can make millions more (and find other amusements). |
It will be fascinating to see what the Clintons do. Will they be so vindictive as to covertly help the Republicans to torpedo Obama, allowing them in four years to say "See, we told you Hillary should have been the nominee." |
