Billions in Aid Going to Areas That Backed Obama in '08
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 7:27 PM
USA Today reports today that billions more federal aid dollars have been reserved for areas around the country that supported President Obama during the 2008 presidential election.
Much of it [$17 billion of the stimulus package spent to date] has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation.

"There's no politics at work when it comes to spending for the recovery," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says.
However, an analysis of government accounting records by USA Today has found that counties that supported then-Senator Obama last year have received twice as much money per person from the federal economic stimulus package as those that voted for his rival, Republican Sen. John McCain.

Jake Wiens, an investigator with the non-profit Project on Government Oversight, says it's too soon to draw meaningful conclusions about whether the type of aid in the stimulus favors Obama's constituents.

But, he says, "it will be important to pay close attention as the data come in to ensure that political favoritism plays no role."

We'll keep you posted...

Sullivan Hypocrisy on DOMA
Here is an issue to discuss:

Glenn Reynolds linked to a Volokh article on the Mass challenge to Defense of Marriage Act this week. Apparently state rights are not good enough, they want federal recognition through the courts on full faith and credit (something Sully said he would never support). Sully has been now been crying how when he travels out of Massachusetts he is “divorced” from his husband(I am not sure if that means he can get some strange on the side, but that is how he described it).

Okay, snark aside, I get why Sullivan wants to overturn and get rid of DOMA, but why challenge DOMA in the courts?

Sullivan of course does not challenge his Democratic Party pals and Barack Obama about this. Why not? They control congress. They can repeal DOMA right now can’t they?

Just another example of Sullivan’s hypocrisy. He would rather play the victim and cry about Palin, Bush and McCain. Attacking McCain, who does Sully think he is? A conservative? Sully's conservative soul died a long time ago. Well two of them are out of office and McCain is not exactly doing a lot out side of Arizona (and policy wise is more moderate than conservative).

Stimulus for Jobs?
FACT CHECK: Will stimulus create more than 3 million jobs like Democrats say? Maybe not

ALAN FRAM
AP News

Feb 02, 2009 13:28 EST

President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats say it nearly every day: Their huge economic stimulus package must be rushed to passage because it will create or save 3 million to 4 million jobs.

In fact, those figures are uncertain enough that even some economists who produced them are basically saying: We gave it our best shot.

And Why the Hurry on the Vote?

Diane: Here's the Sad Thing
They only SAID stimulus was to get people back to work. They have only (mis)spent about 10%. What's the hold up--since they get to get people outta bed and home from their mother's funeral to vote for it in a matter of hours?

The "stimulus" is the war chest for the Dems. It will be spent just in time for the '10 election--but not so soon for people to realize it doesn't work.

Now they are talking about the 2nd (actually 3rd) stimulus. This money will all go to get Dems elected.

The Pubs might be a bunch of baffoons but the Dems are a bunch of bas$tards--a criminal gang shaking down normal people to consolidate unassailable power.

I hate them.

I agree with you. This stimulus was to get people back to work. It was not to support those who would have been unemployed even if unemployment was at 4%.

Federal aid begets federal aid. Nothing ever gets fixed. If it worked, things would get better.

But the "stimulus" money was robbed/borrowed or whatever from taypayers to STIMULATE THE ECONOMY, not give aid to the needier districts.

That, of course, is why the BHO/Proud Progressive/Keynesian economics will NEVER work.

Eric Cantor was speaking this am. His point: Now that we've done stupid (sucked money out of the economy (psychologocally speaking), run it through government to BHO voters, let's now do smart.

Cut payroll taxes, etc. and give some stability to the economy. BHO is just like FDR: Govt control, constant and eratic experimentation, demonizing business and glorifying govt.

It didn't work then and it's not working now. Whatever BHO's game (I believe he's simply a stupid young kid with a black liberation mind set who believes his ideological advisors), it's a continuing disaster.

The Founders made "federal aid" (stealing from one citizen to give to another) unconstitutional for a reason. It's immoral. And will destroy the country by creating a corrupt, tyrannical fed govt.

This is the second thread on a totally bogus topic. The same counties received more Federal aid when Bush and the Republicans ran the government. Gee, that Obama really does have magical powers!

Focus, focus, focus
Rarely do we get an opportunity to discuss an article without a bunch of trolls qu*ering the thread.

From the article,

"The reports show the 872 counties that supported Obama received about $69 per person, on average. The 2,234 that supported McCain received about $34."

I-25 runs North and South through the Front Range here in Colorado. Weld Co. went for McCain with 65 percent of the vote. Larimer County, just to the North of Weld when traveling North on I-25, went for Obama. Yesterday, a "paid for by stimulus dollars" sign went up on I-25 where it travels from Weld to Larimer, just South of Hwy 34.

Bwahahahahahaha! Liberals care about VOTES! Those underserved are actually led by liberal Democrats who promise year after year to "take them away from poverty". Fact is..these people are still poor because the liberal Dems want them to stay that way. Then and only then can they be controlled to solicit thier votes.

Thing is that this is common in most inner-cities. What I noticed is that even when there were jobs for all in 2005 through about 2007 it was the same. During those years anyone who wanted a job could get one. Many chose not to and the government continued to pump lots of money into those areas trying to make it different. I did not work then and it will not work in the future. Unfortunately, what is being done now is pumping money into areas that will never change instead of giving the money to businesses to create jobs for those who want them. Time to face reality. I certain segment of the population will always be on the government dole no matter what the government does. Perhaps we need to consentrate on those who do want to work instead and use the money to get them employed.

HOUSE OF SAUD DESCRIPTION
This is from Simon and Schuster:

How did the Bushes, America's most powerful political family, become gradually seduced by and entangled with their Saudi counterparts?

Why did the Bush administration approve the secret airlift of 140 Saudis, including two dozen relatives of Osama bin Laden, just after September 11? Did one of the Saudi royals on the planes have any advance knowledge of the attacks?

What specifically chosen words did George W. Bush say on national television during the 2000 election campaign to trigger Muslim support? How did the Saudi-funded Islamic groups propel Bush to victory in Florida, thus winning him the presidency?

The answers to these questions lie in a largely hidden relationship between the House of Bush and the House of Saud that began in the mid-1970s. An amazing weave of money, power and influence, it takes place all over the globe and involves war, covert operations and huge deals in the oil and defense industries. But, most horrifying of all, the secret liason between the two families helped trigger the Age of Terror and give rise to the tragedy of 9/11.

What's the real world? Who can't hack it? And how would you define 'hack it?' Compiling cash? I'd love to drop you in the middle of South Central with no money, no cards, and no transportation...oh, and no family members with any cash whatsoever. Let's see how you hack it. I've spent a lot of years working with people who have never had a break in their lives. And, I've worked with the privileged as well. Trust me. Those that 'have,' by and large, 'have' because they had a hand up. GW failed at every business he tried, failed at school, couldn't even do his job at the Air National Guard. He became president. Because he was so brilliant? Because he "worked" so hard? Don't think so. He had an awful lot of help. The kind of help our underserved populations just don't ever see.

Does the word PERCEPTOR imply that have clarity? Check again.

Well, I did some reasearch
"Investigators who track the stimulus are skeptical that political considerations could be at work. The imbalance is so pronounced — and the aid so far from complete — that it would be almost inconceivable for it to be the result of political tinkering, says Adam Hughes, the director of federal fiscal policy for the non-profit OMB Watch. "Even if they wanted to, I don't think the administration has enough people in place yet to actually do that," he says.

"Most of what they're doing at this point is just stamping the checks and sending them out," Hughes says."

So I checked out the, uh, "non-profit OMB Watch". Here's their list of funders from their website,

http://www.ombwatch.org/node/9610

Click on "Open Society Institute". It'll open a new page.

No media bias? Riiight. I wonder what the "non-profit Heritage Foundation" thinks of spending discrepency.

some more ultra-rich Democrats include the Kerrys, the Clintons and the Obamas.

The Obamas made several million dollars last year, and according to his calculations, making over $250,000 makes you rich, thus he would be beyond rich, in the ultra-rich bracket.

Perceptor II writes: Thursday, July, 09, 2009 9:23 PM
Either way, bad news for Democrats
White House press secretary Robert Gibbs claims that the discrepancy is not due to the White House "rewarding" counties that voted them in, but because those counties have received more federal money for quite some time, and the stimulus is proportional to that. Ignoring for a moment that Gibbs' job is to defend the President's policies, and the fact that he's an imbecile, that's still a plausible explanation, at least on face value. We may not want to jump to conclusions quite yet.

But even if Gibbs is correct (stopped watches and all that) it's still bad news for Democrats. One of their favorite contentions of late is that it's conservative-leaning states, Republican-leaning areas, that suck up most of the federal money. They claim that red staters can't get by on their own, so they're supported by oh so generous and more accomplished blue staters out of the kindness of their hearts. If Gibbs is stating the truth, then the opposite is true: it's actually Democrats who can't hack it in the real world without federal intervention. And if Gibbs is lying, then the Obama White House is very thoroughly corrupt.
Expound Truth writes: Thursday, July, 09, 2009 8:24 PM
To be expected.
Having won the election according to the proportions of Americans who voted for him, he must reward the proportions of America with the largest populations who voted for him. Other proportions that have come out well are unions, education, healthcare. The progressive, United Proportions of America, the U.P.A., an undoing of the U.S.A.
