The Polar Bear Plan
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 8:49 AM
A review of the plans by environmental activists to follow up the polar bear's listing as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act:

[L]ike scores of other species-protection cases won by the Center for Biological Diversity in the past, this is but the first step in a long, arduous process to translate the listing into action.

The center petitioned for the polar bear's listing back in 2005. It later sued along with Greenpeace and the Natural Resources Defense Council to force the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list it.

The center's blueprint for saving the polar bear is ambitious and complex. It includes:

? Challenging offshore oil and gas leasing in Alaska within six months.

? Launching a large-scale challenge to the licensing of coal-fired power plants around the country sometime after that.

? Finally, challenging large-scale, local government development plans in major cities.

These efforts would be in the name of reducing greenhouse gases that many scientists are now linked to the breakup of the Arctic-area sea ice on which polar bears live.

"We are trying to change national and international policy," said Tucsonan Kieran Suckling, the center's director.

The best move for the energy industry is to bring actions now challenging the smallest emission of greenhouse gases facilitated by federal permit.  The causal connection between a large emitter and a tiny emitter are functionally the same --non-existent-- but public perception allows the former to be more easily burdened than the latter.  Since the law allows anyone to bring suit, large emitters ought to be attempting to force small emitters to carry part of the burden now rather than waiting to get tagged by the activists in the order the activists would prefer.

QUIET PLEASE, from WIRED mag.
If you think Global Warming is a hoot? what do think when I came to read above article? Quite extraordinary unthinkable!
This is what will be coming next:
Man-made noises may be altering Earth's ecology.
We worry about carbon emissions from SUVs and airplanes; maybe we should be equally concerned about the racket they cause.
Krause, (a scientist), has noticed something alarming. Natural sound of the world vanishing, when he listens carefully, he hears roar of machinery (a hummer miles away!), it's getting harder and harder to get places not contaminated with a distant hawl of 747. (In the Sierras region, populations of spadefoot toads are declining rapidly due to low-flying Military training missions.)?
kruase, has a word for the PRISTINE acoustics of nature; BIOPHONY. It's what the world sounds like in the ABSENCE OF HUMANS.
In a Biophony, animals divide up the spectrum so they don't interfere with one another's voices.
What happens man-made noise anthophony, intrudes on the natural symphony!
By regulations on developing "quiet" Cities, noise ordinances, wilderness could benefit from TIGHTER protections as well.
This is just about educating ourselves, recoginize ecological tragedies by sight - when pictures of clear-cut areas, say, or melting Arctic-ice, shelves. Now, we need to learn to listen to the earth too.
Now, even, bigwig Harvard is on record to support Mr. Krause's theory!

Hunterson is right
Hunterson wrote:

This is exactly right. The environmentalists -- and all three presidential candidates are firmly in their pockets -- want precisely that: an economic collapse. The only remaining question is whether western mankind can, in fact, be talked into committing this economic, societal suicide.

Keith,
Good to hear from you.
Yes, All this climate change mayhem, in our planetary system!
Another Climate Conundrum!
Well, it is spring weather!
HOPE YOU ARE FINE.
God Bless,
I am well, thanks for asking.

Why should we listen to your unsubstantiated fearful predictions probably made while intoxicated by chemicals and propaganda? You have no proof of your fears yet expect everyone to buy your load of lies. Go sell it to the morons at the daily kos as they are easily led down any path of destruction. Keep in mind that I laugh on your lapel every time you post this libtard drivel. "Laughter"

Bingo! Did you know that global warming is happening on all planets, asteroids, comets (comet Holmes comes to mind,)etc.?

How are you by the way?

This is the decision
Not the war, not the economy until now, not anything other than this single, fear-based, irresponsible, lie-based decision to permit anti-human extremists to have the jeys to our culture.
Permitting the lying enviro/AGW wackos to to take over our economy is what will lead to our collapse; not some climate change.

Briggsy, You mean
We have to lie?
Y2K, was a hoax!
Congratulate on creating state of
confusion!
Or better create proactively Scare Tactician in Chief: B.Hussein Obama, the prophet of Global Warming of Last days. We will have our Environmental-raising-deep-awareness extreem threat, Department of Social Concerns.
Yes, B.Hussein, will lay all the groundworks for a U.N. Global Taxation, for the good of the children's well-being of the World, to breathe clean air, plus the polar bears will be able to swim and not drown! If you only follow the great Hope, the Blessings Hussien Obama.
Oh, Why Climate change is happening in our solar system! Are invisible Marcians driving SUVs!
The conflict of upsetting self-awareness of global warming, inalienable value of the polar bear means a respect centered only on exclusion of humans.

Time to read The Deniers by L. Solomon
For those (like Al Gore) who think that scientists (even liberal environmentalist scientists) all agree that man's emissions of CO2 are causing whatever global warming there may be, you should read The Deniers, by Lawrence Solomon, which just came out. If you look at each of the micro issues involved in global climate and climate change, and each of the main contentions that underlie the claim for anthroprogenic warming, you will see that very serious scientists (yes, scientists who are sympathetic with the environmentalist movement) cast extreme doubt on the case for AGW.
You can also read: Climate Confusion: How Global Warming Hysteria Leads to Bad Science, Pandering Politicians and Misguided Policies that Hurt the Poor, by Roy Spencer; and Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming, by Bjørn Lomborg.
At the very least you'll be drawn to the conclusion that, in light of the bang for the buck, there are many other pressing problems that should be addressed ahead of global warming, such as malaria.
Keith writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 7:27 PM
Uh Briggsy
Y2K was NOT proactive. Trust me, I work in the industry. It was much ado about nothing, and more a marketing tool to sell product, which then took us into recession 1/1/2000... Recession becasue everybody had already bought what they needed, and no one needed anything, including food.
dudley writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 5:33 PM
ok, mike,while I'm doing that
you go to any and all websites about:
global warming
human pollution (esp, China, Russia, USA)
decline in fisheries
pollution of the ocean
skin cancers and other cancers ('epidemic')
DDT
DES
and see what you find
Mike writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 4:22 PM
Dudley, can you give us any...
... data or evidence to support your claims? Any links?

Go to the American Council on Science and Health to read about some of the greatest unfounded health and pollution scares of our times:

http://www.acsh.org/docLib/20040928_fvf2004.pdf

Then go here to read about over 31,000 American scientists who disagree with the claims of human-induced global warming:

http://www.petitionproject.org/

And while you are at that second web site, click on the link titled, "Summary of Peer-Reviewed Research". Read those things, then return here and explain to me why you still believe the environmentalist's claims.

Ostriches
The world has millions of acres of sand you can bury your heads in. Comparative studies and the experience of many cultures all show: the degree of global warming; human pollution and population problems (China, great example); massive decline in fisheries around the world, and pollution of lakes and oceans; skin cancers and others on an epidemic rise; DDT, DES and others causing disease, illness, and deformity, etc. Believe what you want. I have a sandbox to sell you.
Keith writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 2:56 PM
One more thing
The Global Warming scam has nothing to do with the environment.
Mike writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 2:52 PM
Briggsy asked....
..."Is pollution a lie?"

In many cases, the answer is "YES" -- in the sense that there have been many environmentalist-inspired doomsday predictions that never came true.

In my lifetime, I've heard predictions of:

1)Mass starvation in the U.S. from overpopulation.
2)The onset of a new ice age precipitated by industrial particulate emissions.
3)The depletion of oil reserves within 20 years (first heard that wide-spread claim in the 1970s)
4)The total destruction of crucial fisheries due to oil spills like the Exxon Valdez accident.
5)The "death of the oceans"
6)The "death of the lakes" from acid rain
7)Skin cancer epidemic from ozone depletion.
8)Cancer epidemic from contamination of the water table with pesticides
9)Numerous unfounded health scares about DDT, cyclamates, DES, nitrites, saccharin, tris, EDB, Alar, etc.

Not a one of these things turned out to be the sort of problem that was claimed at the time.
Keith writes: Tuesday, May, 27, 2008 2:20 PM

Do Alaskan Polar Bears get
Alaskan tax rebate checks?

They probably should if they don't. Of course they would prefer someone cashed them for them and redeemed it in sausauges, bacon and hamburger. Because Polar Bears do not get treated well when they try to go into banks and supermarkets on their own.

The prejudice and speciesism is just so rampant.
