About the Youth Vote

I'm preparing for a panel at the Center for American Progress (yes, that lefty think tank) about the youth vote and thought I'd share some of the information I'm gathering.
Yes, the youth vote DID help Obama win. But, youth voter turnout didn't break the record 1972 levels. What did it for Obama is the overwhelming percentage of people aged 18-29 who broke for him. According to early numbers Obama got 66 percent of people in that age range to McCain's 33 percent. The margin was even bigger in states like North Carolina and Indiana.
This should be particularly troubling for conservatives as these people, many of them new voters, are likely to identify with the Democratic party for many years to come because of this vote.
This is a trend that began in the 2006 elections. Data from the Center of Information & Research on Civic Learning & Engagement. That year the majority of voters under the age of 30 began supporting Democratic candidates.

Thank you for making my point, neoconservatives running the GOP EMBRACED the democrat party war-mongering. This is because they openly believe in imperialism.
Democrats do not TOLERATE it when republicans EMBRACE democrat war mongering, they like only DEMOCRAT wars. Bush 41 seems to get away with it (because, I suppose, it was unconstitutional and they like that sort of thing).
The biggest surprise to democrats would be the likelihood of Obama taking the nation into bigger war than Bush could ever make. This is the tradition of democrats, not republicans, until the LUNATIC Bush family took power.
The democrats love war, death, and destruction. That is why dems led the nation into 4 senseless wars last century; and why 48 million Americans are missing from the USA through abortion; and why they don't flinch in their support of partial birth abortion.
It was HORRIBLE for republicans to join them in the bloodlust.
They young who bare the burden of war REJECTED this and the GOP. These are the days of the internet, there is no way to pull the wool over their eyes, like with Vietnam, Korea, WWI, and possibly WWII.

Viet Nam was a Democrat war. Remember JFK and LBJ? The Reps inherited Viet Nam. Iraq was a bipartisan war that, just like Vet Nam, the left then blamed on the Reps. You really should get your facts straight before you bloviate. Also, take a crash course on spelling. |

In four years time, after the "youth" vote of 2008 learns what the failed policies of Jimmy Carter are like i.e. high taxes in a slowing economy, windfall profit taxes, foreign policy failures, etc, they will be voting Republican. |

No, no, that's your REFLECTION. |

The only dark matter I ever see is in the toilet.
Is that you? |
|
don't have to worry about the youth vote if their keep their studpid noses out of senseless OR phony wars (like Vietnam and Iraq).
Ron Paul drew tens of thousands of young people to the republican party.
Republicans crapped on him and them.
MORONS.

In as much as the youth vote the Democrats had many ways of hammering down their message into new voters impressionable minds. The problem is that being far from home the students rely on the circle of close acquaintances, to include teaches and university staff. We know what kind of people universities are hiring now a days. Most University professors are of the "liberal" persuasion and exert a lot of power into young impressionable minds. You do what you know and they are good at teaching "liberal doctrine" Unitl an equal hiring policy is instituted at most of our schools of higher education the conservative voice will have no echo. Is also spooky to know that there are bottom feeders of the type of Kalidi and Ayers and Dohrn walking the halways of these institutions. |

I don't see the 'youts' identifying with the Dems for long. They have been strongly influenced by the MSM hammering the Reps and Bush the last 8 years as warmongers, worst economy since the depression blah, blah. The Reps haven't had ANY effective spokesmen to counter the propaganda. As others have said, once these gullible shavetails get a taste of redistribution they will start looking around for more info and voila, they will want free markets. |

"the youth vote will identify with the Democratic Party for years to come".....
at least until Pres. Obama clobbers the white youth with a reinvigorated "affirmative action"..
this goes right along with "wealth distribution" and "fairness", watchwords in Comrade Obama's platform....
ironic justice, huh?????
LOVE IT!!!!!!! |

Republicans will need to come up with their own grass roots efforts to help combat the leftist indoctrination taking place in our public schools. This may be easier to do on college campuses thru organizations like the college republicans, FCA, or even younglife. We need peole out communicating with the youngsters and painting the picture of what their future looks like if we don't address things like social secuirty, medicaide/medicare, nationalized health care if it happens etc. If you explain to them that they will not have any of this or their tax rate will be 75% of their income, they may start to get the picture and understand the consequences of electing people that will not address this spending but instead recommend more spending... |

Amanda I might disagree with you on the point of those young folks staying with the Democratic party. The Democratic party was the only ones that had a message and stayed on that message. We as conservatives need to define what our message is, no more that five points, and stay on that message. I think it will depend on how Obama administration does as to how hard it would be to convert those folks. I think one factor that may come in to play and I hate to mention it is hardship. I am 48 years old and have really never had hard times. I love history though so I understand about those hard times. We will have to see if we can define a message and convey it.
As a side note wish me luck, I begin my third term as a local city council person in my home town.
Become involved and make a difference. |
