Another Expert Lawmaker Apparently Doesn't Know How to Pay Taxes
Posted by: Meredith Jessup at 8:24 PM
Roll Call is reporting that Texas Rep. John Carter (R) today admitted failing to report $48,000 in capital gains from stocks sold in 2008--this in addition to the approx. $300,000 he acknowledged misreporting between 2006 and 2007.

I will never understand: why is it so hard for lawmakers and policymakers to pay their darn taxes?

It's easy: you just have to adopt the
attitude that the law does not apply to you.

"In my own life, in my own small way, I have tried to give back to this country that has given me so much," she said. "See, that's why I left a job at a big law firm for a career in public service, " Michelle Obama

No, Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn't perform any official duties. But this hasn't deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary.
How things have changed! If you're one of the tens of millions of Americans earning subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Ms Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. Public:

What rep Carter SHOULD say,
is, "Yeah, I didn't pay them. And I'm not going to. The statists can cram their taxes where the sun don't shine."

Ahh, one can dream....

The last of it!
The First Lady)
17. $45,000 - Lechtenberg, Tyler A. (Associate Director of Correspondence For The First Lady)
18. $43,000 - Tubman, Samantha (Deputy Associate Director, Social Office)
19. $40,000 - Boswell, Joseph J. (Executive Assistant to the Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
20. $36,000 - Armbruster, Sally M. (Staff Assistant to the Social Secretary)
21. $35,000 - Bookey, Natalie (Staff Assistant)
22. $35,000 - Jackson, Deilia A. (Deputy Associate Director of Correspondence for the First Lady)
(total = $1,591,200 in annual salaries)

There has NEVER been anyone in the White House at any time who has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady's social life. One wonders why she needs so much help, at taxpayer expense, when even Hillary, only had three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one; and prior to Mamie Eisenhower social help came from the President's own pocket.

Note: This does not include makeup artist Ingrid Grimes-Miles, 49, and "First Hairstylist" Johnny Wright, 31, both of whom traveled aboard Air Force One to Europe .

Fry him
Plain and simple. I am so sick of these people, R or D, doesn't matter.

One more person who should be wearing an orange jumpsuit with Geitner, Franks, etc.

I'm no hypocrite...
Rep Carter(R) needs to join the list of shame with Rep Rangel(D), SecTreasury Geithner(D), SecHHS Sebelius(D), and failed Cabinet nominee Daschle(D). All are confirmed tax cheats.

PUT THEM ALL IN PRISON.

What's not to understand, Meredith?
These guys are so busy spending everyone else's money, how can they be expected to keep track of their own?

correction
He actually posted his 2006 & 2007 returns online, he never omitted this income from his actual tax returns, but miss reported on the House disclosure, which were since amended.

We'll see how the 2008 allegations shake out, as they are made by the same democrat activist who incorrectly alleged that he did not report this income in '06 & '07.

In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress.

Meredith, He paid his taxes
These amounts were left off the House disclosure forms. He was hardly trying to hide anything if he posted his tax returns online.

It is what it is.
If he's guilty, burn him. Plain and simple. Rangel, Frank and all the other ilk need to burn as well, no R or D necessary if you are cheating the people.
KATZ writes: Tuesday, November, 03, 2009 9:21 AM
Why?
Why do politicians have trouble filing their taxes correctly, if at all? I can answer that. They are so busy conniving and scheming up ways to steal money from honest taxpayers that they neglect their own taxes. In addition, they have increasingly come to believe that the laws do not apply to them. If they consistently had to pay outrageous taxes, they wouldn't be so quick to penalize working people. Appropriate punishment for all of these criminals might include 60 lashes on the Capital steps for the first offense and hanging for the second. I bet Rangel, Carter, Sebelius, Geithner, Dashle and all the rest would figure out a way to get their taxes paid after the first episode.
Craig writes: Tuesday, November, 03, 2009 10:14 AM
Don't know
People get into arguments with the tax man all the time, so that wouldn't be a problem to me.

Failing to report $48,000 is an awful lot of money. If he earns over $500,000 per year which he almost certainly does I would suggest hiring an accountant.

If he is supposed to be smart enough to design a tax system, he should be smart enough to get accounting help and not pull a Geithner and do it on turbotax.

Bet Rangel would not post his tax returns.

Easy
The tax code requires a degree in Sanskrit, quantum physics, and non linear logic to make sense of it. Even tax accountants can't get it right, so an error I can understand. Deliberately hiding your income, Charles and Tim, is a whole different matter.
