Huckabee "Borrows" Another Line
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 5:15 PM

It seems Mike Huckabee is developing a pattern of appropriating other peoples lines, without crediting them.

I first noticed this during his Ames, Iowa speech, when he used Newt Gingrich's example of how FedEx can track packages, but we can't keep track of illegal immigrants (he used this idea, without mentioning Newt).

... Now, he's using Colin Powell's "you break it, you bought it" Pottery Barn metaphor -- without mentioning where he got the idea from.

I mean, if it's cool to appropriate someone else's idea -- without being called on it -- then just let me say:  "Ask not what your country can do for you ..."

And what great lines they are...
the first attempts to equate tracking human beings to tracking individually bar-coded packages which are constantly under the control of FedEx, and the second references a pottery barn policy that doesn't exist according to pottery barn.

What great metaphors.

Good call Matt.
General Powell's Pottery Barn line can be said to have pretty much entered the colloquial sphere. If it were just that, I wouldn't be inclined to agree with you but the addition of Newt's ideas sans attribution does start the need for concern.

The Presidency For Sale on eBay?
This is slightly off-topic, but people need to hear about it.

The Presidency is up for sale on eBay. Some clever hoaxter has taken Romney up on his challenge and listed the Presidency at a starting bid of $20,000,000:

Remember the guy who tried to sell his soul on eBay? It was huge news. This could be same.

Great observation Warren Small!
I just spent an entire day researching Paleocon vs Neocon................Chuck Baldwin was a good place to start.........After 8 hours of reading, the Present State of Being of the GOP is DOA in November 2008. Neocons have broken the Party. If the sound of "Madam Speaker", is offensive, try the sound of "Madam President"!......Based on the total resentment of True Conservatives and evangelical christians that placed GWB in office, "Madam" will be appropriate, sence the GOP Prostitutes need a "Madam"...........The evacuation to the "Constitution Party" will be OVERWHELMING if a Neocon Globalist is on the ticket!........The revolt by middleclass conservatives on the "Immigration Fiasco" was a tip of the iceburg!.....America is truely poised for a 3rd party now.

Mike Huckabee
Both expressions were popular, then used then old. Newt didn't invent the Fedex line! Reg joe's have been using that line for decades.

You break it you bought it was extremely popular when we were young.

Get a grip.

Plagurism
Neither Newt or Powell invented those expressions, there as old and tired as the hills.

Must be having trouble coming up with things to criticize.

Collins.. Is FedEx as old as the Hills?
What makes Newt interesting is his innovative ideas. Carville did a good - yet sleazy job portraying him as an extremist.
