Charting McCain's Comeback ...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 11:28 AM
If John McCain goes on to win the general election, there will likely be key moments along the way that we could point to as significant turning points.  For example, it is predictable that the VP selections, national conventions, and the debates -- will all be significant.

However, I believe we have already witnessed at least four important moments along the way.  Following are the four five events that I believe have been the most significant for McCain, heretofore...

1).  July 2 -- Campaign Shake-up -- McCain loyalist Rick Davis is demoted and Steve Schmidt takes control of the "day-to-day operations" of the McCain campaign.  As a result, McCain begins to develop a consistent message and to paint Obama as "out-of-touch."

2.)  July 17-25 -- Obama's Audacious Trip -- Obama prepares for an international trip which will be covered by media stars.  It is observed his plane has the 'President' label on it.  After touring the Middle East, Obama gives a speech in Berlin, where he talks about America's imperfection.  On his way to Paris, it is revealed that Obama skipped a meeting with injured U.S. troops.  Each of these events helps underscore McCain's message about Obama.

3.)  July 30 -- Celebrity Ad -- McCain unveils "Celebrity ad," which features Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.  The ad is mocked by some, but reinforces Obama's image as a "celebrity."  It also garners a ton of free media attention.

4.)  August 8, 2008 -- Georgia -- Russian tanks enter Georgia's breakaway provice of South Ossetia.  McCain quickly condemned Russia, while Obama was "characteristically circumspect."

5). August 16
-- Saddleback -- After Obama returns from vacation, McCain and Obama appear at a forum with Pastor Rick Warren at his Saddleback Church.  McCain appears relaxed and in control, while Obama criticizes Justice Clarence Thomas and says abortion is "above his pay grade."

In this business, there is a tendency to focus solely on what is happening today.   This allows little time for analysis of past events.  But it is only through introspection that we can step back and get a big-picture view -- and assess what is working (or not working) over time.  Clearly, McCain's momentum began with a staff change which resulted in developing and driving a consistent message about Barack Obama.

Update:  Due to popular demand, I've added Russia's invasion of Georgia as number 4...

Where McCain locked down that magic 1.38% of the vote with his promises of amnesty. Juan Hernandez is really earning his money.

Euro Trip
Obama's Euro trip will be the key turning point. All the media were starry eyed while most Americans were appalled.

The "real" McCain

Media biased against McCain? Give me a break. They just aren't covering anything that doesn't fall within the accepted script for this election. His bizarre inability to grasp very important and well-known facts is very disturbing.

The South Ossetia crisis
I think the recent South Ossetia crisis had a lot to do with it too. We saw Putin, a former KGB officer, ordering tanks, missiles and planes to invade Georgia. McCain was on the case immediately with a strong response, while Obama couldn't even make up his mind who to blame. And a lot of Americans began to ask themselves which of these two men they preferred confronting an S.O.B. like Putin--Obama or McCain.

JUST make McCain's DAY

The perpetual bashing of McCain's age is a
direct insult to ALL SENIORS: especially those of us who are 72 years old:

THE ARROGANCE of brain fried druggie, inexperienced, incompetent, uninformed, immature and blantly reckless Obama, to suggest that
SENIORS do not have a clue:

YOU GO OBAMA, YOU tell us how it was, how it is and how it will be:

HINT: every senior has been there, done that, got the T Shirt and moved on:

B2slim writes: Wednesday, August, 20, 2008 2:35 PM
He spent 1/2 billion to WIN::

Well after Obama has spent 1/4 of a billion in campaign donations 1/4 billion in free media and press for 2 years, 1/4 billion in volunteer, internet, FREE campaign publicity, and 50 million in taxpayer money for security to travel around his 57 states and the WORLD

HE HAS NOT said anything that will make us faint, fall down on our knees to kiss his feet:

Inflate your tires, didn't do it

Ration everything didn't do it

Share our income, assets, achievements equally with everyone in the world didn't do it

Play kissy face with Putin and world enemies didn't do it

Proposing to Steal the assets and incomes from Senior's (as in your parents and grandparents) retirement accounts didn't do it:

Redistribution of Bill Gates, the google kid's estates to the parasites didn't do it:

SPEAK and learn SPANIsh before you learn to read and write didn't do it

Open borders didn't do it

Unilateral disarament didn't do it:

THAT SENIORS are SENILE and McCain is too Old didn't do it:

I AM WAITING to hear the "MESSAGE" that will make me fall down to worship Obama and vote for him:
B2slim writes: Wednesday, August, 20, 2008 2:47 PM
WINNING message:: DRILL::EVERYWHERE now

McCain only needs to show up in ANWR waving the USA flag and say::: DRILL:::: NOW:::

NO kissy face with Putin or Hugo or Castro
or Iran, Syria etc.

NO rationing of heat, lights, food, gas etc.
No redistribution of Senior's wealth
No confiscation of citizens's assets
No punitive taxes and regulations
No taxing every business out of business
NO MORE WASTE, FRAUD and ABUSE

Until this election I never realized the need for the Biblical 3rd commandment "You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth."

But after listening to all this nonsense about Obama for the last year, I do now!

Only thing this Obama message will make you do is "fall down," crying that is when you see how much money he want to take out of your wallet! Obama and his supporters need a refresher course on the eighth commandment too "You shall not steal!"

Obama is extreme 100% pro-abortion
Congratulations to Steve Schmidt!!!

He has used every opportunity to show that Obama is out of touch with American values of God, family, and country.

Obama is NOT just self imploding, Schmidt has expertly used the Paris Hilton ad to expose the empty suit of Obama.

Then Schmidt prepared McCain to appeal to social conservatives buy reaffirming that he will appoint Supreme Court Judges like Alito and Roberts during the Saddleback conference.

I was going to vote 3rd party until Schmidt convinced McCain to reassure us social conservatives that we could trust him on Supreme Court Judges.

Well done Schmidt!!!

VP Governor Huckabee HELPS McCain WIN 08
MIKE HUCKABEE IS A FIGHTER AND ONE OF THE GREATEST COMMUNICATORS OF OUR TIME!

Most American's DO NOT favor abortion. Nor do they wish to align themselves with factions dedicated in butchering innocent babies inside and outside the womb. And NO, that baby is NOT the women's body; it is a separate body with a separate heartbeat and separate brain activity. And YES, the unborn baby FEELS PHYSICAL PAIN as it is being ripped out of what should be the safest place on earth - mother's womb!

The Planned Parenthood abortionists lie to young women all the time just to get their money, while those ex-mothers and ex-fathers suffer emotional distress as they realize everyday that they have just allowed a child killer to convince them, not only to take their money, but also to kill their precious little baby. Abortion STOPS A BEATING HEART and the future of a civilization.

People weep and wail over the loss of a High School football player destined for a great professional career who had been gunned down by a random shooter, but yet we will never know the great deficit future generations will suffer for the loss of over 50 million innocent babies in this country alone. Shame on America for tolerating this horror ... and shame on its citizens for tolerating their personal complacency. Pro-choice is a lie - Babies do not choose to die!

Away with this archaic freakish, barbaric practice! It will soon be done away with, along with these fake pro-abortion polling numbers! As long as the president chooses judicial nominees his Vice-president better be pro-Life if he is ever going to win an election.

"A nation that cannot protect its most innocent and helpless citizens and the sanctity of human life is a weak nation that will utterly collapse economically, socially, relationally and entirely." - HMH

Mc Cain the flip flopper
He told us that Iraq's leaders would NEVER agree to a timetable for US withdrawal. He said he KNEW it because he KNOWS the leaders, for crying out loud he's BEEN to Iraq 8 freakin' times!

Now he's only 100% wrong. Every democrat and some republicans were right about a timetable. Obama was right about a timetable, hell Kerry was right too, and now our entire administration agrees with them.
The only one out in the cold is McCain.

McCain says he'd rather lose an election than lose a war...

He WILL lose the election, and because of that we WILL win this war.

Ironic that the guy he warns us about seems to be on the correct side of these important issues.

How did Juan McLame win the primary?
No, really.

Last Fall, he was dead politically. I mean, he was sleeping with the fishes. His constituents were talking about recalling him; about how he had no chance for re-election to the Senate.

The Lefties whine about voting fraud. But, I can't help but think "something" happened with the voting booths during the early primaries.

Great summary Matt - what's next
The right VP selection will keep him on track to win in November. The wrong VP selection by McCain will turn everything he gained around. It's McCain, so we all know what he will do.

please. If your for retreat since 2004, EVENTUALLY we will pull out and the dates will ultimately be set and you can pretend to appear correct all along. To say the retreating folks are finally right, once we leave, whenever that may be, is just stupid.

Thats like saying its going to rain every day...eventually it will, but what about the other 4 or 5 years you've been wrong?

Its a pathetic argument, the bushliedpeopledied will use it, but with the public, it won't they arent as dumb as....well...some.
