Pastor Wright Counterattacks
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 11:09 AM
The coverage of Pastor Wright's National Press Club speech agrees that this is very bad for Senator Obama.

Comprehensive coverage of Pastor Wright from the Chicago Sun Times'  Lynne Sweet.

The audio and transcripts of Pastor Wright's September 16, 2001 and April 13, 2003 sermons are posted here.

UPDATE: Byron York comments:

The audacity of Obama's speech on race was to embrace Rev. Wright more closely, not to distance himself from the "controversial" preacher. "I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community," Obama said of Wright. "I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother…These people are a part of me."

He's gonna have a harder time continuing to embrace Wright after this morning's performance at the Press Club question-and-answer session.  Wright is a continuing disaster for Obama.

Geraghty adds: "The Obama campaign is off the rails."

As I was scrolling the posts I was thinking that if America elected a Black president would Blacks just move that Michelle Obama bar for Americans? Is nothing ever enough? Some people are never satisfied with progress or improvement, but would rather always play the victim in order to have a built-in excuse for not trying or trying and failing. How long will white people in America be punished and not forgiven for the mistakes of forefathers who were not even related to most current Americans.

For those of us who have lived and seen incredible improvement in equality in the US in the last 50 years, race relations seem like the doomed torture of Sisyphus rolling that giant rock up the hill over and over only to have it constantly roll back down and never make any lasting, acceptable progress.

Junior high
The quality of Rev. Wright's argumentation is frankly pathetic -- the kind of logic you hear from a junior high school kid who think's he's sooo much smarter than the other guys (who will be stuffing him in the trash can about two minutes later, though he doesn't know it yet).

I have in mind his snappy little comeback to a reporter who referenced one of the more obnoxious passages from one of Wright's sermon. Wright said (quoting loosely) "Have you read the whole sermon? No? Then that nullifies your question."

Look, chump, I haven't read "Mein Kampf" in its entirety, either, but I've got enough of an idea of what it's about that the burden shifts to its defenders to demonstrate that the wicked parts are somehow rehabilitated by the "context."

Pick your poison, pardner

"Mr Obama, as president, will you be implementing Wright's view of race into your policies?"

1. Obama can say "yes," and incur the wrath of the voters; or

2. Obama can say "no," and then *Wright* will attack him, possibly adding heretofore unknown details; or

3. Obama can say "present" and prolong the agony.

After Effects Of NC and Wright
It seems now that state parties down South, NC and Miss. are now reaping dollars because of the Wright fallout and the after effects of the hate that Obama and his socialist followers are portraying. Now, Old John is attacking Wright and Ayers and should feel a bit sheepish about his NC attacks. I hope he goes down to the 11 Southern states and encourages the BASE. Stop John . Please stop attacking your own Pub CORE. And state Pub Parties should be running their own campaigns and not link them to ole John at least till he decides that he really is a Republican.

I agree with you
I agree with you that Obama doesn't seem to represent any change and that is too bad. What I am trying to say is it is a good change to have a black, female, jewish, mormon, etc. as president in that is shows that in this country people have the opportunity to do anything.

What I find disturbing about Obama's embrace of Wright, Bill Ayers, and even the far left wing of the Democratic Party is that even a black president would not make them happy. They would still think this country is a source of evil. I really do think Obama himself thinks his presidency is a way to move beyond this stuff which is the central (And my opinion only) appeal of his campaign. Without that, Hillary is actually right, all Obama has is an anti-war speach in 2002.

"What kind of change," needs to be the question, Barry is asked over and over again. He hangs out with radicals and extremists, So exactly "What kind of change are you talking about?"
Wallace did not ask that yesterday.

John McCain in heaven
John McCain must be having the best day now. Fo a whole week he was battling his party not to go on the offensive with Wright because he thought it would alienate blacks. Then Wright went out on his own and wacked Obama, giving McCain the cover to go after him.

This leads me to this question? Do black leaders really want a black president who can heal the wounds of racism? This is a noble goal and one most of us would agree with. If that is the case than how can someone as close to Obama as Wright hurt the best hope of a black president ever. Does he feel that this country can never get beyond racism and a black president would in fact just be a coverup for the racism of the country.

If this is the case then Obama is a frightfully naive man. To put his faith and trust in people who only speak ill of our nation and its institutions and see no hope of any change.

What was the most informative to me were the music cultural differences! I always wondered why I couldn't figure out the rhythms (dominate beats) and thought I just didn't know enough about Jazz.

Well, just learn to snap on 2 and 4 and you'll be doin' OK with Jazz rhythms.... it takes a Jewish person to really relate to black culture.

As a matter of fact both Jewish women and black women have more in common than they want to believe (pushy, bossy and dominant in most of the male/female relationships).

I've been to Africa 9 times with this summer's trip. The Democrat Blacks here in America are full of bitterness and resentment tward their past.(many Republican Blacks have reached greatness because they have denouned resentment)There is no comparison to the US and the African culture! They embrace me totally and I love them deeply. And you should see them laugh with joy at this white woman and her husband when we dance there. It is the beat that completely is different and I find it impossible to clap to their songs in time.I end up just clapping a constant beat (every note) which is what they often do as well. They are raised with music and dancing in every fiber of their beings, and I love it!It would greive them to hear the Irreverant Wright.

NAACP Detroit speech by Wright
was informative about Black language from a linguistic point of view and about the dominate right brain learning styles among Black children. Our educational system has tended to a a "sit down and listen" approach which approach works for some children but certainly not for all.

What was the most informative to me were the music cultural differences! I always wondered why I couldn't figure out the rhythms (dominate beats) and thought I just didn't know enough about Jazz. His point about Classical European music versus Negro Spirituals was really informative. I've always loved the Spirituals but couldn't sing them right. Now I know why - I was trained (musically) in a different culture base and was used to the first and third beats being the dominate (pulse) beats.

Did anyone else click on that link? I don't see any postings about his Detroit speech. Would appreciate your comments after you've listened.

A WAASP (is that the right set of initials?) who would like to appreciate differences between the so-called white and black cultures in the US.

And the Soetoro death spiral continues,
every time this bigoted dunce opens his mouth, Hussein Soetoro loses 50,000 white votes, i'm with O'Reilly, how come the campaign can't kidnap this lose cannon and deposit him for safe keeping with Raila Odinga in Hussein's homeland, of Kenya, i firmly believed that Barry would eventually be their guy, and that he would not hit bottom until the nomination was rapped up, but he is now radioactive, and absolutely, unelectable, so much so, that even these liberals supers can see it, but do they dare not vote for him, for this reason, i believe Hussein will be the one to drop out, for the good of the party, don't cha' know, NO WAY, Hillary drops out, if you'll remember, back during the Govt. shutdown, in describing that situation, BJ, said that each time he was hit, he would bounce right back up, just like one of those dolls, the harder you hit it the quicker it would rebound, thats why the Clinton's ain't going no where, if the fascists are to survive this, its going to be the black guy who goes to the back of the bus, not the feminists, the Soetoro death spiral continues, will it hit ground in Denver, and will there be an explosion, the Police Dept. here believes that is exactly what will happen.....onward to Denver and the liberals date with destiny.......teargassed in the streets of Denver......come......BREATHE DEEP.....

Chickens Roosting
The libs have been ignoring the ravings of crackpots like Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton, Cynthia McKinney, Maxine Waters and The Right Reverend Wright for years. There is a whole subculture of black grievance and distorted history promoted by the libs. Any form of black racism against other ethnic groups or any call to violence is ignored and uncriticized in the name of PC moral and cultural relativism. Now, for the Dems, the chickens have come home to roost. They either run a candidate who is up to his eyeballs in black and white crackpot leftism, and is probably unelectable or dump him in favor of a candidate who has alienated the black voters the Dem party needs to be viable and who will react to her nomination by the SooperDooper Delegates as confirmation of all the White Conspiracy theories the libs have been pushing in the black community for decades. Even a candidate as weak, feeble and hapless as McLame might stand a chance against whichever severely damaged candidate emerges from this scrum.
