HamNation: Better Living Through Lefty Activism
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 8:46 AM

Today, an instructional video on how to love the earth the lefty way. You know, through high-volume carbon offsets and killing polar bears. And, what with Gore in town refusing to take any binding Earth-saving pledges, it's a good week for this lesson.

Thanks, as always, to Katie Favazza for the camera work and my Mac for the editing. Big thank-you to Jeff Matzka for the voice over. And, of course, to the Cat for her performance.

Update: Uncle Jimbo's hosting the Friday Freefly again this week over at Blackfive. That's his new video project which is, sadly for me, far more sponsored by a delicious alcoholic beverage than my production is. Lucky Uncle Jimbo.

Go watch now!

Quick edit!
You wrote, "And, of course, to the Cat for her performance."

My edit would have read, "And, of course, to the Cat for its performance." You are supposed to reserve the use of "his" and "her" for humans, usually.
Rick writes: Saturday, March, 24, 2007 3:27 PM
STILL ROFLMFAO!!!
And that was after watching the vid a THIRD time.

Well done, MKH!!!
LagunaDave writes: Saturday, March, 24, 2007 2:59 AM
Classic!
You rock MKH...
Matt, Esq. writes: Saturday, March, 24, 2007 2:27 AM
My cats
Would like to tell the environmentalists/animal activists that they better STFU before they ruin a good thing for cats everywhere.

Humilated Bear my butt.
rc writes: Saturday, March, 24, 2007 12:21 AM
Ok, you rock
That was so cool...Hamnation should get an Oscar for that one! Of course it won't, and that's why I love it!
Jim C. writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 11:32 PM
funny!
The cat part didn't make too much sense.

But it was VERY funny!
Patrick Chester writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 11:27 PM
Yeah, a Knut-ty idea...
...advocating the killing of an animal because it was "domesticated" or otherwise affected by humans.
jetpilot writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 8:32 PM
Yes kill cats
Lost me on the cat, quite a transition or non-sequitur, but it was funny I think. So saving energy is not natural? Besides as someone said lets just invade and occupy the mid east under some pretence and steal their oil.....oh never mind.
Lyrax writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 7:25 PM
They're right
This one was funny.

I love the faces you make here. You're getting really good at those, especially 'mock surprise.'
Patrick Chester writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 6:44 PM
Very amusing...
Okay, I was laughing out loud a few times.

Good work!
vcferlita writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 6:17 PM
That was great!
That was one of the best Ham Nations yet. It was well written and the video editing and sound quality are improving. Good job.
eLarson writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 5:45 PM
Film strip in the offing?
Having gone to a po' skool district, we often were stuck with film strips. The music and narration were JUST like this. Only thing missing was the nice, mellow "beep".

(If I only I could find it as a .wav file. It would, you know, really spice up a PowerPoint presentation.)
Jim Treacher writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 4:56 PM
Classic!
Your reactions are priceless, and the narrator nailed it. Well done.
not ashamed to be right writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 4:52 PM
Funny, funny!
Great video clip, MKH. Most posters have already said it but I wanted to tell you that my kids will have the time of their life when I show it to them (as well as my veterinarian husband....who is a big Monty Python flying cow, killer rabbit fan.)
tdau1997 writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 3:42 PM
Love it...
That made my day. Thank you.

U Tube listing
Ham Nation is grouped (by U Tube) with all the Hamster Dance videos.
Way to go, girl!
But with your expanding fan base, PLEASE don't go Hollywood on us.
WasatchMan writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 3:16 PM
Heh
Oh boy, PETA's going to get you for this one, MK. You can hide out from them at my house (wink, wink).
dalewalt writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 3:08 PM
wonderful
A great vid as usual, but I just loved the part where you threw the cat off the balcony!
Abu Daboo Doo al Bedrocki writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 3:06 PM
Great vid
Fantastic job as usual. I think your acting is getting better all the time. I particularly liked the sound of the voiceover announcer. Are you sure you didn't dig him up from the 50s or early 60s? He had just the right timbre and nasality to sound just like the film announcers from grade school. Katie Favazza also did a great job of filming. The production values have skyrocketed over the last few HamNations.

Probably the best video yet. Keep up the great work!
Timberwolf writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 2:18 PM
Head over heels....
I've always had a huge crush on you Mary Katharine, but, when you launched that cat, you set my heart a-racing. Will you marry me? We shall spend the rest of our days tossing felines. It'll be fun.
rdvrk219 writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 2:10 PM
i am now keyboard -uh - less!
ROTFLOL!

The feline toss was classic! Unfortunately, the Coca-Cola Classic went flying as well; all over the monitor and keyboard!

Keep it up MKH! These are getting better every time!
HankReardon writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 2:00 PM
Syndication....
Great show! You should make this a weekly series documenting the path to becoming and environmentalist feminist activist. Call it "Green Nags and Ham"
Rick writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 1:31 PM
ROTFLMFAO!!!
The cat-tossing is great! It just illustrates the conflict that goes on among them in their brains. Many of them LOVE cats and abhor the thought of a cat being euthanized but have NO problem when a parent decides to have his/her child aborted.
Mindy writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 1:15 PM
activism video
hehehehehe Love political humor-what are carbon offsets anyway?
kat-mo writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 1:11 PM
My cat was not amused
That was extremely funny. Especially, because I was sitting here in the dark (the only real way to conserve energy), petting my cat who was very interested in the video and is watching me type right now.

He likes your blog, except for the part where the kitty went flying. Then my cat was not amused. LOL
Dave writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 12:54 PM
love it!
You've outdone yourself this time MK!!
Frank J. writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 12:27 PM
Awesome
If you keep making high quality videos like this, you're going to make Drudge angry.
RoosterTeacher writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 11:31 AM
Funny stuff....
Seriously, how many trees to free up a Hummer?

Personally, I'm all for enviromental responsibility but only when it mixes with economic responsibility. I use CF lights because I'm cheap and lazy (I haven't changed a light bulb in years). I favor reducing oil usage so I can stick to to the Arabs who are funding terrorists with my oil dollar.

Funny video though. Al Gore just makes it too easy. I'll miss him when the aliens come to take him home.
Rick writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 11:15 AM
ROTFLMFAO!!!
Tossing the cat from the window was VERY funny!
Uncle Jimbo writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 10:42 AM
Internet shows
MK,

I agree you are pushing the envelope, with Ham Nation. Thanks for the link to my GOE Moonbat Safety video.

We are on episode 4 of the Friday Freefly which we film live at a local establishment. We have sponsorship from the local Bacardi rep and he sent the show up his chain and got positive feedback. Anyhow we added a decent mic this week and should have graphics and a musical guest next.

Here is a dead link to this week's show at Blackfive.

Keep smackin' em around, they need it. I will keep an eye on my thriving moonbat population here in Madison.

Cordially,

Uncle Jimbo

ROFL
MK,

Shot a little coffee out my nose when you threw the cat overboard.

Your vids are getting better and better.
steveegg writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 9:13 AM
There we go
Here I thought GoogTube was censoring again.

Excellent work again.

Video's showing up fine for me. Still having trouble?
steveegg writes: Friday, March, 23, 2007 8:54 AM
Er, where's the video?
Let me guess, like the typical cartoon "House of Tomorrow", the end of this video ended up a shambles.
