McCain 47%, Obama 46% ...
Posted by: Matt Lewis at 12:00 PM
After a post Middle East/ Europe trip bump, Rasmussen Reports latest daily tracking poll shows McCain is up 47% to 46%.

How did this possibly happen?

I've got a few theories ...

1. I'm of the opinion that the more people learn about Barack Obama, the worse it is for him.  Obama is charismatic and highly likable, so his first impression is very positive.  But the more people learn about his positions and background, the harder it will be for him to be "all things to all people".  In short, his support is tenuous and superficial.  Conversely, people pretty much know who John McCain is.  His image is built on a solid foundation over many years, so he is less vulnerable to attrition of votes.  In short, Obama's mansion is built on sand.  McCain's house isn't as pretty, but it's built on a solid rock foundation.  Obama does well if the sun shines.  McCain needs a storm.

2.  McCain's campaign has finally started creating that perfect storm.   I think you've got to give Steve Schmidt some credit for that.  McCain won the week last week, because for the first time this cycle, the McCain campaign had a consistent message and was able to begin crafting a negative narrative to define Obama as out-of-touch.  Schmidt has been at the helm for less than a month, but he was able to turn Obama's trip into a positive for McCain (or, at least, make it a wash).  Not bad at all.

3.  It is also likely that there has been a backlash to Obama's trip.  Aside from the fact that speaking to 200,000 Berliners isn't necessarily going to play well in Peoria, failing to visit the wounded troops plays into the stereotype about Democrats not caring for the troops.  As Bill Kristol pointed out on Fox News Sunday yesterday, Obama would have been better served to just visit the Middle East and then meet with world leaders in private.  His hubris got the best of him.

In short, I believe there are a combination of factors involved here.  But the main point is that Obama is not running away with this race.  And I think that once voters realize there is a real chance of one-party control by the Democrats, the better McCain will look ...

The Media Is Obama's Worst Enemy!
The Hosanna Chorus in the media is telling Obama that the schtick that plays so well with the elites and minorities is playing well with the average voters. Its not true. Telling someone who has taken a huge hit from energy prices that they should inflate their tires is a total insult. Saying that looking for more domestic oil wont solve the problem presented by too much of our oil being imported from hostile foreign regimes is so asinine that people who were taken up by the first wave of Obama-love are going "WHAT!?" Obama's speeches are falling flat, too. That one in Berlin was a gigantic FLOP! There was no sound-bite that emerged from it, no gripping photo or video moment. The media coverage was so sycophantic that the Obama campaign must have thought it was a winner until they looked at the polls. Obama and the Dems are going to have to cut loose their pals in the environmental movement or they will get shellacked this year. Energy is the ONLY issue.

McCain or Obama
I do not understand why people keep saying how charismatic Obama is any more than I could understand why people said it about that scumbag Clinton. There is nothing charismatic about either of them.

In his speeches, as far as I'm concerned, Obama comes off as pompous and arrogant and a total moron, and he likes to play the race card and says he doesn't

As for McCain, he's a liberal pretending to be a conservative. I don't vote for liberals. Why the Republican party made him their candidate (the voters had little to do with it--both parties annointed the candidates they wanted and unfortunately there are too man voters of both party who will go lockstep with whatever they are told to do) when he's not even a loyal Republican--what the LIBERAL media likes to call a maverick. He touts the fact that he can reach across the aislt and work with Democrats. That I do not dispute. Unfortunately, when he does so he sides with them. When was the last time that he reached across the aisle and got Democrats to side with Republicans? Has he ever done that? Neither of these idiots will get my vote. As far as I'm concerned, whichever wins in November, the country loses and loses big. If it's Obama I firmly believe we'll have more 9/11 type attacks. And, I believe it will happen within the first year (possibly the first six months) of an Obama administration.

I will vote for McCain IF and WHEN he
I will vote for McCain IF and WHEN he rejects the following UNCONSTITUTIONAL laws or bills bearing his NAME:

1. McCain/Kennedy Amnesty for 12 to 20 million Illegal Invaders and a pathway to citizenship.

2. McCain/Feingold which prohibits groups like the NRA and National Right to Life from airing TV or Print Ads criticizing Politicians like McCain for their voting records during the last 30 days (when voters finally pay close attention).

3. McCain/Leibermann Cap and Trade CO2 which will RAISE the cost of ENERGY by at least 50%.

ALL 3 of these bills or laws are SIGNATURE ISSUES for McCain.

When he admits he was wrong on ALL 3 of HIS bills and commits to NEVER doing it again, then I will HOLD MY NOSE and vote for the lessor of two evils McCain.

I am still waiting for McCain to show us Conservatives he heard us and learned his lesson and will not betray conservative values again.

I am not holding my breath. My read of McCain and his advisors is that they think they can WIN without the solid Conservative base. They think they can pickup the moderates and the chicken Conservatives who fear Obama too much to hold out for their Conservative values.

So far McCain is correct and the chicken Conservatives are telling Pollsters they will vote for McCain.

John McCain
in spite of Conservatives' concerns - is a man with many years of experience in the cauldron of politics. Doubtful if any person having so much Washington DC history could stand above and apart from the heap of so many disastrous political careers. His straight talk could be called common sense talk - and his family history (the son and grandson of Naval Admirals) lends him a special distinction. His sons continue service to this country and the McCain's do not even mention their very personal reasons for wanting peace as soon as possible.
Just a few observations - as the country observes the socialist Barack Obama, a completely unqualified candidate - flipping, flopping, uh uh uh uh ah ah ahing his way through a campaign - as the MSM and many voters give little attention to his very questionable choices as career and personal associates. The long, long, long list!

HuffPuff: Obama can't win?
In the defining moment of his life, McCain was willing to give everything for one thing, and that one thing was his country. Contrast that with Obama, who has told America that he is "a proud citizen of the United States and a fellow citizen of the world." Obama is the talented salesman who seduced one state after another saying "Iowa, this is our moment," "Virginia, this is our moment," "Texas, this is our moment," and then tells Europe, "people of Berlin, people of the world, this is our moment." How many times can Barack Obama sell the same moment to everyone, before he becomes Mel Brooks in "The Producers"? Who is Barack Obama? His campaign, as it reupholsters him before our eyes, says we can never know -- perhaps because Barack Obama does not know himself.

think people
As the old saying goes..."If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is..." this describes the Obama phenomonen. This unqualified individual was put up front & center to represent the "progressive" Democrat party. Every time Obama has to ad-lib without a teleprompter he stumbles & fumbles all over the place, his "words" are not his own, he adjusts his comments to fit the crowd he is addressing, weighing every word and it sounds as if he is making it up as he goes along. McCain, although he seems to be scoffed at by a great many Republicans, is by far more qualified to lead the Nation, especially at these perilous times. Even when it comes down to the character of the candidates wives, Michele Obama seems to have a hard time behaving with class, Cindy McCain on the other hand has been very eloquent and has not had any stupid "moments" to embarass her Husband. I hope that the "American Idol" attitude in this campaign is over, we must not choose our President because he looks good, is young or is making history...the leading of the this great Nation is serious business & we need to take it seriously...

RE: Charles and Marlson on Kimberly
You guys should just let her keep posting... This way everybody can see how loony she is. When are they going to understand that devoted Obama fans like her, Ayers, Wright would only bring their Messiah down? Oops... did I say it out loud?

Apollo: Can't say it better. The more spotlights on Obama, the better it is for McCain. But the press is usually all over McCain with his gaffes, while letting Obama roam around freely. The question is who's phonier out of the 2 politicians? My money is on Obama, a community organizer turned into Senator and now running for presidency almost overnight. One is judged by the crowd around him/her. And around him, you see the likes of Kimberly, Wright, Ayers, Ludacris, Soros chronies, etc. - the ones who chants or sometimes rants about nothing but racism. What does that tell you?

You said, "Whiners who would rather see the country hurt than vote for McCain need to think long and hard about why that's so."

None of us want the country to be hurt, but I have yet to have anyone convince me that the country would be less hurt with McCain than Obama.

To me, the prudent choice is to make a statement by voting "none of the above", which equates to a vote for a 3rd party. That's not whining, it's standing up for principles and values.

Out of Sight, McCain
Obama's numbers didn't decline, they stayed between 46 and 48 percent, where they have been for three months (Realclearpolitics). McCain's numbers grew because more "undecideds" decided to vote for McCain. The question is "Why did McCain's numbers improve when the press practically ignored him during Obama's hapless world tour?"

The answer is that McCain rose in the polls because he was out of the limelight. It gave people time to forget just how awful a candidate he is.

Now McCain is getting some press. Let's see what happens to his poll numbers when people see his face and hear his constantly mutating positions as he tries to match his views to public opinion.

The only thing that McCain has going for him in this area is that Obama is ten times the chameleon that McCain is. Obama changes his positions like most people change their socks (which means when other people begin to notice the smell). Along side of Obama, McCain looks like the Rock of Gibraltar.

Don't you just love the Two Party System? Two hopelessly phony politicians trying to get to the front of a stampeding mob and pretending to lead the them by hollering "Follow me!"
Quincy writes: Tuesday, August, 05, 2008 1:34 AM
Seriously
What's with all the stumping for Barr? Get a grip people. McCain is, in fact, pretty conservative, while Obama is quite literally to the left of Bernie Sanders (Socialist- Vermont). McCain is running against a third party wacko who managed to get a major party nomination- and whiners who would rather see the country hurt than vote for McCain need to think long and hard about why that's so.

Oh Kimberly where are your friends?
That is right I haven't seen King Liberal and the RealBlackMan around in several weeks now, I wonder why they haven't been on. It must have something to do with how many times I shut them both up.

Here was the easy part, tell the facts and tell them straight and do not lie about the facts. That was all it took and now two paid Obama supporters that kept hacking away at bloggers on here went away, and I haven't seem them since.

It amazes me to see people that can't tell the facts straight and just criticize people, and then just want to spread rumors and glorify a party; oops Kimberly I forgot that is your Liberal Democratic Party. Well Your Bad, this time!!

Here is a hint, do yourself a favor and figure out who the pathological liar that is running for President is. Hint: Obama Maybe you will get the idea who to vote for in the end, by the way Obama hasn't locked in the nomination yet, those delegates can switch their minds and go Clinton. Now that would be funnier yet, and let the whining liar weasel go home to face the music back in Chicago!!!

47 percent say Kimberly is nuts
Is this where we are going here? Of course not, but ever since I joined T/H I have been witness to paid Obama supporters trash talking McCain all of the time. Now it appears that Kimberly is either one of them, or wishes she was.

Now I honestly don't care what she does in her personal life, but when she blathers her mouth off every day about McCain I am getting tired of it. Now I served my country in two capacities; in the Coast Guard and as a police officer, detective, SRT and Drug Agent.

Now I have seem all sorts of people, and talked to all sorts of people regarding Obama and those with intelligence tell me one thing: They don't trust him at all!! Why? Because he lies everytime he speaks. That is what I hear everyday from ordinary people, white, black, mixed, asian, etc., those are the people that think that way because they don't want promises and lies, they want protection.

I have had it with Nancy Pelosi and the Demobrats and they need to pay for their lack of duties. They all need to be fired or serious consequences brought forth against them, and I hope that State's Attorney Generals may look at their perspective Senator's and Congressperson's and see what can be done!!!

And Kimberly just shut up already and FBO!!! And if you can't figure out what FBO means just ask those of us with intelligence, we know you don't have it!!!

Why Obama is down
It looks like the American people are starting to see through Obama, his flip flopping, political trips, and starting to appreciate the honesty of a guy like John McCain. Many have pointed to McCain’s new ad, calling Obama a “celebrity” but declaring that he is not ready to lead. More likely, it’s been a culmination of McCain’s attacks, and Obama’s flip flop on drilling which he has tried to claim is not a change in policy that have attributed to Obama falling in the polls.

Breaking the Color Line
In March, my local paper carried an article by Walter Williams in which he wrote that blacks really needed a Jackie Robinson-caliber candidate to break the presidential election color line. And Obama didn't match up.

Williams was right.

Too many voters are embarrassing themselves backing Obama--blacks, just because he's black; whites, to the extent of any white guilt.

This country is dying for a black president. But this country shouldn't die just for the sake of electing a singularly unqualifed black president.

Electing Obama president would be like Branch Rickey choosing Michael Jordan to break the baseball color line--passable on its face, but ridiculous in reality.
