Florida Election Law
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 6:49 PM

So what happens in Foley's district?

From Florida Code, Chapter 100.111, 4(a):

"(4)(a) In the event that death, resignation, withdrawal, removal, or any other cause or event should cause a party to have a vacancy in nomination which leaves no candidate for an office from such party, the Department of State shall notify the chair of the appropriate state, district, or county political party executive committee of such party; and, within 5 days, the chair shall call a meeting of his or her executive committee to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy. The name of any person so designated shall be submitted to the Department of State within 7 days after notice to the chair in order that the person designated may have his or her name on the ballot of the ensuing general election. If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot. Any ballots cast for the former party nominee w ill be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee. If there is no opposition to the party nominee, the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee will be elected to office at the general election."

How about George P. Bush? Dan Marino?  Shaq?

Yeah, that's what the LAW says...

Tom Rooney for Foley's Seat
Tom Rooney is an Army Vet. He is the CEO of a private Foster Home in Palm Beach County "Home Safe." He is also married to another Army Vet and they have three children. He thought about running against Kathyrn Harris earlier, but declined. He would be a perfect outsider, non-politician that is exactly what the Congress and Republican party needs. I should know - he's my older brother - and to let you know I am not biased - he's Army and I'm a Marine, and I STILL have this high regard for him! visit http://www.tomrooney.com

How About Me!
I live in Florida and I'm old enough to be a Rep now; I can run!

Being a Representative looks like it leaves you plenty of time in the day to blog.

Foley's a creep and criminal
The real scandal here is what did the House leadership know and when did they know it about Rep. Foley? Then, What action did they take to insure the safety of our children? Stay tuned for the "culture of cover-up".

If the allegations are true, the Republican House leadership let a sexual predator run free to avoid a scandal.

Boehner is already backtracking. This one is going to blow up big right before the election. It's going to be in the news from now until Nov 7th.

Foley can start doing the right thing by donating his entire campaign warchest(2million+) to the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Lack of Appropriate Center Right Respons
As a committed and long-time republican, I was dismayed by the fact that my favorite web site (obviously Hugh Hewitt)spent zero print on the outrageous conduct of one of our own and immediately turned to the election implications. I understand how important our majority is in both houses, but similar to the necessary purging of members implicated with Abrahamof (sp?), we should not tolerate this type of behavior for a minute. Further, if our leaders knew the extent of this pedophile's misconduct and sat on the information as a machiavellian election calculation, they will be unworthy of our continued support regardless of their much saner views on the GWOT. I trust that wasn't the case.

I should not have said "pedophile" in my prior post. I apologize to all for my careless choice of words.

TIMELINE
I agree with the above posts, we need a time-line and what did the leadership know and when did they know it. The IM's being published were not known before this story broke ..were they? How were the IM's tracked? Obviously, those sick IM's (not the e-mails we knew about) need to be separated from the initial contact by the mother. I also don't believe the leadershp could have called in the FBI based on the phone call from the mother. I'm hoping that the leadership gets the facts out of the timeline and what they could have and could not have done. In all fairness, I can see why they did'nt want to share the initial contact by the mother with the dims. In hindsight, they should have.
Perhaps is Hugh is trying to gather more specific information before he posts about this.

How about George P. Bush? Dan Marino?
I agree that if Hugh was ignoring the moral implications of these dispicable acts and possible coverup, that would be outragious and deplorable. But we all know Hugh is a good Christian, just like most of the members of congress profess to be. Therefore we should not rush to judgment and condemn Hugh over the apparent insensitivity of today's post. Lets assume that he is investigating this matter before he speaks out on it.

Foley "Pedophile?" Make up your own mind
http://abcnews.go.com/images/WNT/02-02-03b.pdf

This above was one of the e-mails ABC news read to Foley that caused him to resign.

No need to apologize for the word "pedophile."

And as for George P. Bush running, there's this little embarrasment: http://ratbangdiary.blogspot.com/2005/09/jebs-drunk-son-arrested.html

The only troubling thing that has come to light about George P. is that on December 31, 1994, he broke into the Miami home of a former girlfriend, argued mightily with her father, fled the scene, returned 20 minutes later, drove his Ford Explorer across the front lawn and left wide paths of burned grass to be remembered by. And the interesting thing about this incident is that the girl's father declined to press charges.

I'd Prefer Jeb...
But he probably doesn't live in that Congressional district. That said, while the term limits law says he can't be governor again, it doesn't say anything about serving in other public office.

"If the allegations are true, the Republican House leadership let a sexual predator run free to avoid a scandal."

You guys didn't mind letting it happen for 8 years. What's the hurry? Oh and were you concerned when nancy boy Barney Frank was putting up male prostitutes? I doubt it.

Foley is a creep and deserves our contempt. But people like you are more contemptible because you couldn't give one sh*t about the boys involved. You just see a potential House seat. Get a life.

Dig further back on Foley
Years ago Foley stopped running for Senate when his sex choice was questioned. But his long terms as representative puts him up the scale in committee assignments and such.Power.
Besides -- people with nasty secrets can be "strong armed" to vote party line to avoid exposure. Rather than representing WE THE PEOPLE. The repulsive IM's were from 2003 - so they could have been found if they had chosen to last fall. (Clue - the "rule of law" guys did not follow house rules -- they deliberately avoided the Democrat on committee charged with protecting pages. Think intent?)
Foley had helped refuse to count chads in 2000. So Jeb and other Bushies held their nose and pretended not to know that "something" was not Kossher. Just as they are now doing with Charlie Crist.
Is it possible God did not choose George Bush? That he is not a RULER -- but a servant of we the people. (Don't tell "Chaddy" Kathy Harris. She didn't see the part about "no religious test for office" in US constitution yet. And if she sees Jesus said to separate chuch and state -- even in her Bible --- it could harm her delusions.)

George P. does make sense, since...
he too has really serious personal issues.

From the nonpartisan Smoking Gun, which reproduces THE ACTUAL POLICE REPORT:

"George P. Bush might be a hunkalicious young Republican, but he still seems a bit creepy. So TSG wasn't too surprised to learn that "P" was involved in a troubling 1994 incident described in this Metro-Dade Police Department report. On December 31, 1994, Bush showed up at 4 AM at the Miami home of a former girlfriend. He proceeded to break into the house via the woman's bedroom window, and then began arguing with his ex's father. Bush, then a Rice University student, soon fled the scene. But he returned 20 minutes later to drive his Ford Explorer across the home's front lawn, leaving wide swaths of burned grass in his wake. Young Bush avoided arrest when the victims declined to press charges."
