RNC Member Tries to Sidestep GOP Activists
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 7:18 AM
At least one member of the Republican National Committee doesn't want to hear from the grassroots. And, he only needs 16 more to shut them out.

North Dakota Republican Party Chairman Gary Emineth is circulating a petition among Republican National Committee members to hold an emergency meeting before a debate for RNC Chair candidates held by Americans for Tax Reform.

The purpose of the meeting appears to exclude grassroots activists from becoming involved in the race.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what the public thinks; it matters what 168 of us think," the Emineth told The Hill newspaper.  Technically speaking, he is correct. Only RNC party members vote for chairman.

That vote is scheduled to occur during the RNC's Winter Meeting in late January. According to party rules Emineth needed 15 different members from 16 different states to trigger the emergency meeting. He got the other signers and a meeting has been scheduled for January 7, two days after ATR's debate.

The petition has insulted many activists who have been closely watching the race. There are feeds on Twitter devoted to RNC Chair chatter, conservative blogs like Townhall have been very interested and ATR even set up a website to submit and vote on questions to ask the candidates during ATR's event.

And full disclosure, I have been directly involved in the creation of the site www. chooseyourchairman.com that allows activsts to vote and comment on a candidate as well as send an email directly to their RNC representative to lobby them for their vote.I'm proud of it, too. With no marketing whatsoever well over 1,000 people have voted and communicated with their RNC member. (I, however, am not supporting or endorsing any candidate. I was just interested in giving people a platform to communicate with their members.)  This move by Emineth, however, seems to want to kill that entire spirit.

The Party Killer
Emineth's tactics are precisely what will stand in the way of our party's ability to redefine itself for modern times and regain its foothold in office. The same old exclusionary Republican operatives running the party their way. Anyone who jumps on this bandwagon is demonstrably deaf and dumb - they have learned nothing from Obama's brilliant campaign. You can't make it in the political world without grassroots support. There may be 168 voting members who count, but if they don't give the grassroots someone to be excited about, aleader who will inspire the troops, we will gain nothing. These guys just don't get that the world has changed.

I volunteered early for President Bush's re-election. I was first in line at HQ with my plan to organize the grassroots support and was immediately shot down by the Colorado campaign chair who told me he was not interested in grassroots he wanted to find $10,000 donors. That year Kerry raised a boat load of money through small donations and this year Obama raised millions through grassroot supporters. The Republicans are more than 8 years behind the Democrats because they conintue look for $10,000 donors instead of inviting the grassroots players to participate.

We sorely need party leaders who recognize the need for new strategies, who will listen to the party base and who will recognize the importance of grassroots support. He who follows the old playbook weakens the party.

Normal for the GOP
Those of us that wanted Ron Paul already know that the GOP ignores its activists.

The dems embraced their activists after '04, and look where they're at now.
Kathy writes: Monday, December, 29, 2008 3:09 PM
And Emineth wonders
why the GOP has lost elections for the past 2 cycles. Can someone wake the idiot up? Of course you have to take into consideration what the "base" of the party is looking for.

If the rest of the RNC follows this idiots lead, they can kiss my votes goodbye forever!

Emineth
Keep Emineth in mind when you come whinning to me for money to defeat the Dems. Then you won't need to act confused when I tell you where you can stick your party.

Amen to all the above. The 'leaders' are the problem, not part of the solution. It looks like a new party will have to be formed.

My concerns...
My concern is that with the exception of Dawson and Saltsman nobody has really any record of achievement. Michael Steele has the most votes of support but anyone who knows his record would know that he has never achieved anything. For example consider his GOPAC organization, he has taken GOPAC no where, it is of no influence whatsoever. Is this the kind of leadership we want in the GOP Chairman?
Gary writes: Monday, December, 29, 2008 8:15 PM
Emineth weighs in
First of all - the purpose of the meeting was to open up the debate - not shut it down. If you are going to blast my efforts you might want to view other posts of mine and other articles. It is my goal to open up debate - move us from a top down party to a grass roots movement. I am tired of an inside the beltware mentality. The action is local. The network by the bloggers all over America need to be heard. I didn't plan or raining on Grover's parade. I requested the meeting for Jan 6 - the day after Grover's meeting. RNC members were invited and felt it was a good time for members of the RNC to ask tough questions that are important to the Republicans back in our home states. In other words I wanted to hold them accountable to their promises. Something we have lost.

Nice Try Gary-We Aren't Buying
“At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what the public thinks; it matters what 168 of us think," the Emineth told The Hill newspaper.

It is time to wise up Mr. Arrogance! The base is stirred up. We are stirred up against the leadership of the party and its arrogance. And now Saltsman and his CD - what an absolute idiot. It goes from you to Saltsman and down the line. Enough. Step aside and let in the fresh air and new ideas. You guys are a disgrace. You just want to hold on to your power not do what is best for this party.
CVN65 writes: Tuesday, December, 30, 2008 8:41 AM
Same old, same old
How very typical. And the RNC wonders why we don't donate or work for them. They must be confused as to why they keep getting humiliated by the Dems. Hint-it's not the war. They need to listen to their base for a change and stop thinking that they are our superiors. For Pete's sake, look at how many typos there are in Emineth's reply.
sloandog writes: Tuesday, December, 30, 2008 10:16 AM
I guess we didn't hit bottom yet.
How bad does it have to get for the RNC to see the light?Kudos to Amanda for bringing this to light.Emineth and Saltsman, two republicans with their respective heads up their arses. We can't advance as a party until these arrogant types are weeded out.
DanNV writes: Tuesday, December, 30, 2008 10:35 AM
He needs to go
It is precisely this "exclusion" of the grass roots that has landed the Republican Party where they are. Given Emineth's determination to do just that, it's "showdown" time. This action by Emineth is classic. It clearly demonstrates that our "elected" representatives believe that we answer to them, not the reverse.

Not just no Mr. Emineth, but hell no! You will not be allowed to do an end run on "we the people." They vote on Jan. 7. We need to vote for his removal today. Get busy, get active and get very, very vocal, this must not stand.
Navyret writes: Tuesday, December, 30, 2008 10:41 AM
No money here
My money is staying in my pocket, at least what the Libs don't take. No more money to the RNC until they start working for the people again. These guy's are only thinking of their own agendas and nothing to do with us. Not even close to getting back on track. We will never take over in 2 years, maybe in 12, providing the party decides to become unified once again, but I really have a hard time believing that will happen unfortunately.
Yellow Jacket writes: Tuesday, December, 30, 2008 11:05 AM
Hey Gary! Get A Clue!
Get off your high horse and go visit Amanda's site.

The grassroots want Michael Steele by more than 46%.

Remind the holy 168 that we write the checks, we make the phone calls, we walk the precints and we pull the levers.

Want to staart winning elections again? Give us the leadership WE want.

The Dems know how to do this, you can too.

RNC Chairmanship
I just sent a letter to RNC Chair Duncan regarding why I am NOT sending any more money to the RNC.

I told him until the RNC starts representing the core Republican values again and not the Democratic liberal agenda, I would withhold all funds.

This statement by Emineth is a prime example of what has seriously gone wrong with the Republicans.

Seems that most of the conservatives on this board agree that the GOP has screwed up big time by acting like a bunch of Schwarzenegger liberals, and deserves their current fate.

The only problem with that is that the party that get's rewarded from this is the Democrat party.

The only thing I want to see more than the GOP return to its conservative roots is to see the Democrat party and its liberal hate mongers banished completely!

My fear is that unless the GOP can get its conservative base to come home, the Dems will stay in power indefinitely. That is a frightening prospect. Can you say Venezuela?

is too stupid and arrogant to realize that until they return to CONSERVATIVE principals, they will remain a minority.

BOOSH and McScamnesty should have taught them a lesson,....but noooooo, instead They'll stubbornly and blindly "goosestep" right along with their pals, the RATs and RINOs forcing on us MMGW hysteria, socialist judges, cap'n trade, 1st and 2nd amendment abuses and massive amnesty, leaving the borders wide open,...and "to hell" with what WTP want!

IMO, they can "go to hell"!

Nice try Amanda. You have exhibited that very liberal of traits - idealism. An effort such as yours only works on the other tribe. You thought that your fellow 'unpeople' would be welcomed and have a voice in choosing the leader in the second most exclusive club in America. WOW.
Truth is, an outreach like that is what is necessary for change. Doesnt matter that it wont work. The GOP knows about it and also knows that you
(or someone)will come for more. Just know that there is little difference in what you are attempting to do and what other so called 'liberal' activists do. An advocate is an advocate. Elites are elites temporarily.
Yes Virginia, there is a heart in a Conservative blogger.
Next I suppose you will want my money!

One Party Rule - get used to it
After this election I am now convinced that we are moving to a one party rule in this republic, soon to become a socialist nation. Why? The GOP primaries were full of 'activist talk show hosts' demonizing one candidate and elevating another. When the dust settled, they had done the job the democrat candidate needed to do without the democrat paying a penny for the demolition of the republican candidate. The Republican candidate did not want anyone saying anything offensive to the democrat candidate because - am not sure why. Nevertheless, when the dust settled we had two candidates competing to be 'moderate' and best perceived as an 'everyday american'. With the half black candidate winning the election, the war hero Johnny decided it's time to unit behind the zero experience candidate who thinks 'typical white people' are suspicious of blacks and that these small town folks who cling to guns and god do so because they are bitter about not having enough money (and that was before the wall street meltdown). Looking back I realize, there is no difference between the dems and repubs except that when the dems are in power, they actually get something done while repubs play along in the name of bipartisanship. When repubs are in power, the dems fillubuster while repbs complain about it. A republican govt. gave us huge spending, an open boarder bill, and oh yes! an unfinished war........mmmmm.....let's be honest, we are a one party country. The party is governed by lobbysts and activists, and the other single digit IQ americans vote based on the emotion of the day. I mean hussein is president - somebody tell me 'change is really coming'.......

The conservative base will not come 'home' until the GOP understands that religioust bigotry, as exhibited in the 2008 primary's should not ever stand as the Norm. We conservatives (one if 5 bolted the party to vote elsewhere) won't come home until we stop putting nutjobs like Palin and huck on pedstals and worshiping at their false alters. They don't represent the true conseratives of the party. We won't win until we get back to basics, and away from the far right wingnuts with the white hoods.

I agree with you on Huck, I was no fan of his brand of politics but I did not have any problem with Palin. The only problem Palin had was she was running with McLiberal who tried to put the shackles on her.

With that said, you need to stop propagating this myth that Republicans are the ones with "white hoods". Lets not forget which party started the white hoods and which party still has a sitting Senator that was one a white hood.

Let's not forget which party fought and won a war to end slavery. Let's not forget which party Martin Luther King Jr. was a member of. Let's not forget which party had a majority that voted for the Civil Rights legislation in the 60's.

I know this stuff doesn't get taught in the public schools anymore, but historically Republicans have been far greater allies with the black community than Dems. Dems pass themselves as their friends now just to get their votes.

Just because conservatives do not believe in giving away free hand-outs to minority groups, or any other group for that matter does not make them racists. The party that wants to make you and everyone else in America dependent on the government is the party that is effectively trying to make slaves of all of us!

I had a huge problem with both McCAin and Palin. Neither should have been on the ticket in ANY postion. Now that I see who palin really is, I can never vote for her. I would have given her a shot in the future, had she even been smart enough to know it was not her time yet. But I can't go there now.

McCain was the big problem. Palin put the nails in his coffin.

Ummm exactly WHAT am I to
be Jelous of?
I have zero illegitmate grandchildren (or children, for that matter). I have never had an affair (Palin and Brad Hanson - her husbands BUSINESS partner, at that), My daughter is not sleeping around, getting knocked up (now delivered, and waiting to become a vigin again). It only took me one college and 4 years to get my degree (and I worked my way through college). My hair is the same color as Palins, and about the same lenghth. I wear glasses too. I have a excellent WORKING husband, not a bum as she appears to have, and my special needs kids have a full time mom and loving family, not a photo op. Oh, and I have a religion I live, and not one I just show up for to make it look good. Yea, I'm sooo jelous of Palin! (not). I'm thankful I'm not her, and I'm also thankful we have real leaders in my state, and not one who run on what homely men think is real beauty. Oh, and I know the business ends of guns as well. Never killed a moose, never intend to either. Not my cup of tea. My sons are not addicted to drugs (they were at ages 3, thanks to birth moms, but not now). They won't be fobbed off onto the military to handle the drug problem as tractor was. And my daughters have higher standards than the palin chickies. My daughters have made the decisions not to have sex until marriage, and to marry someone with an education, not a drop out. All my chilren have real names. yea, I'm 'jealous'. !!!

White Salamander moves from blog to blog and filibusters. He recycles the same arguments, facts and tone, all of which have nothing to do with the subject of the posting.

Ok, Salamander. You are singularly brilliant in the narrow area you represent. You have shown us all that you are the nation's expert.

Now that your ego has been fed, please demonstrate that you are able to address the topic of the post or just leave it alone.

White Salamander and the Mormons
White Salamander's love for the Mormons is in every blog to which he posts comments and he posts comments to every blog. I am getting some distinct impressions about White Salamander.

1. White Salamander loves Mormons, their church and their beliefs

2. White Salamander wants to see his name on the Comments summary splash for every blog at Townhall.com

3. White Salamander comes out daily to look for and to pick fights on the blog postings

4. White Salamander is always off topic in every comment posted - it is all about White Salamander's agenda - for example, see #1

I'm a little surprised so many people actually read the White Slime-O-Meter's posts. I used to amuse myself bantering with him - kind of a waste of time, but it was cheap entertainment.

Ever since he went over the top and actually said he was glad a person was murdered at the Olympic Games after he found out the man was a Mormon - I have read not one of his posts since. Now I see it's him, flag it as offensive and move on. At times I can't help seeing what he's saying if other's quote him, but for the most part I just move on.

What is really sad is, he actually thinks he's smart and makes sense - no, really, he does. I know, and you know, and virtually every person on TH knows he's dumber than a box of rocks, which makes it sad but amusing that he thinks he makes any sense at all.

Well reasoned response with my thanks. White Salamander has delusions of being rational in structuring arguments and having something to say that anyone would want to read.
