Novak Runs Over Huckabee.
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 5:24 PM
And then he backs the truck up over him and runs over him again.

My producer has put a call into Team Huckabee to see if he would like to respond, but we have been getting the big Huck Duck for the month since I asked him questions about taxes and federalism.

Mitt Romney is on today's show.  Rudy Giuliani is on tomorrow's show.

Successful candidates don't dodge the opportunity to talk policy on air before an audience that is center-right.

UPDATE: Team Huckabee e-mails that the governor will be back some time this week, which makes it a limited, modified Huck Duck.

Which is better than Senators McCain's and Thompson's steadfast refusal to appear to talk to a center-right audience.

There's a reason why Mitt and Rudy are the two possible nominees --they work the base every way possible, as often as possible.

Shock Poll!
Huckabee leads in Iowa!

Well why not? As Jonah Goldberg notes, he's just as "mainstream" as the rest of them (Ron Paul excluded, of course):

Go Huckabee!

We're undertaxed and underregulated.

And the federal government has far too little power, so we need efforts like Governor Huckabee's proposed federal ban on smoking.

Go Huckabee!

Novak lies repeatedly
The difference between Mike Huckabee and Novak: One loves morality; the other loves money.

I have come to the sad and inevitable conclusion
that money matters more than morality to Bob Novak.

The reason I say that is because sadly, Bob Novak has made it clear time and again that he cares more about economic issues than the great moral issue of the day: abortion. If he thinks money matters more than the lives of babies he is immoral-in my opinion.

As for the ridiculous "he will raise your taxes baloney", Mike Huckabee is for the fair tax and an end to the income tax-so saying he is going to raise your taxes is a bunch of flapdoodle. Because only you, and you alone, will decide how much your taxes will be-by the amount of your personal consumption.

As for the dirt on Obama rumor Novak recklessly passed on in another half baked column, Novak knows there is nothing to the story- yet he whispers it and says like some scolding village busy body gabbing on the telephone.

He obviously did not fact check, and he has no clue whether it’s true or not-and it’s now patently clear to all that it wasn’t true-but the truth doesn't matter to him anyway.

I certainly don't think Novak was honest in the way he gleefully passed on something he had no clue was true or false with reckless disregard for the truth of what he put into print. And simply placing the words "i was told" before the unverified rumor is just a fig leaf to cover his shameful lack of integrity.

Bottomline: Mike Huckabee, is fine Christian man with a solid pro-family, pro-life, pro-second ammendment, agenda for America. He has got my vote and he will be a fine President-he is goinbg to win despite the best efforts of dishonest Bob Novak, and the slick mitt groupies on TH.

Yes, Daniel, I'm sure the "general public" supports Hugh. I guess too that's why the American electorate is the monolith it is.

And surely you must know that Hugh's detractors just don't come from the liberal-left. To his credit, he's open up his comments box to us, so here we are. Get used to it.

Hugh-Bashing

Amusing to see all of the Hugh-haters here, all the time. Either they are a representative sample of the general public (in which case, one wonders how Hugh's program stays on the air) or . . . well, they are a weirdly SKEWED sample of the general public (and, very possibly, lacking normal lives).

Meanwhile: GO HUCKABEE! (We're undertaxed and insufficiently regulated.)

HUNTER 2008

Conservatives can nominate a conservative. All it takes is not acting like sheep and getting herded into nominating a northeast liberal. 49% will never vote for Hillary, only 60% voted last time. Turnout was the difference. Give Americans a chance to vote for someone who WILL secure the border and watch turnout soar. Americans want their government to fulfill its most basic responsibility.

The primary responsibility of the U.S. government is to protect the territorial integrity and people of this country. They have completely abdicated this responsibility. Both parties have been complicit in this. We are being told it is not possible to control our borders, enforce our laws, and thereby control our destiny as a nation. Hogwash. We are being sold out by corporations intent on importing workers for jobs that can't be exported with the taxpayers paying the true costs, financial and human. If we act like sheep and don't stop the inundation across our borders, we will lose our country without a bleat.

It is nearly unanimous...
... on almost every thread on your OWN blog, Hugh. And that should tell you something about your own audience. Everyone knows why the other candidates won't come on your show. It's because you won't "interview" them. You'll attack them and tout Romney.I would think that if I were a candidate and wanted to go on a show that would treat me like crap, I'd rather it be a left leaning show. At least it would be expected there and wouldn't afford the enemy the chance to say "See he is even attacked on a conservative show."

See, Hugh, YOU are adding to the enemy's weapons against us by treating all GOP candidates but one badly!

You are no longer serving your audience, Hugh. You risk losing your own show over this silly Romney sell out.

Oh, and Huckabee isn't a conservative and pointing out his actual record isn't an "attack."

A waste of time
Why would any candidates want to go on Hugh's show anymore? Except Plastic Mitt, of course, the idol of worship. Usually, Hugh doesn't like Novak. Now Novak is great. Hugh starts reading Novak's column, speaking about how Huckabee isn't a libertarian in the mold of Goldwater or Reagan. Hugh hates libertarian ideas. He mocks them at every turn. Hugh is not nearly as conservative as Huckabee or any other of the Republican candidates except maybe Rudy, the cross dresser.

Hugh, it's just too obvious. Nobody cares anymore. I've listened to you since you were on on the morning. I listened to you on the other station. But I just can't abide the Plastic Mitt worship anymore. Bye Hugh. I'm off to work for Huckabee.

The remark from Hugh about Huckabee being run over a couple of times is not suprising. If Huckabee wins Iowa, Romney will likely be a done potato.

Hugh predicts big Romney win. Romney will go down in history alongside the Gator-slaying OSU team and the Red Sox shredding Indians or the big GOP victory in Nov 2006. Hugh's predictions are not to be taken seriously.

Still, that portion of the show which is not the "Romney for President Show" is a great talk show.

Hugh center-right? ROFL. and Novak
I've lost track of the number of times Novak has spouted out faulty information this election season. I think he's chosen the path of Dan Rather (only to the right).
nokay writes: Monday, November, 26, 2007 7:46 PM
You're incorrect about Fred Thompson.
Where do you get off saying Fred Thompson makes a "steadfast refusal to appear to talk to a center-right audience"?

I'm quite sure I heard him have a very serious discussion on the Laura Ingraham radio talk show. And if I'm not mistaken, I recall hearing him on the Sean Hannity show.

Sure, I'd like to hear Thompson making appearances everywhere, and apparently you're a big Romney guy. But you should dispense with the factually incorrect hit-and-run remarks.

Joe writes: Monday, November, 26, 2007 7:35 PM
I am not surprised Huckabee is not
willing to come on and have Hugh Hewitt turn it into a cross examination in favor of Mitt Romney.

Huck probably had to schedule a colonoscopy for that day. The only difference between getting a colonoscopy and going on Hugh's show is most doctors give you a general anethesia for the colonoscopy. That and the fact going on Hugh's show is not necessarily good for you (unless your name is Mitt Romney).
Tom writes: Monday, November, 26, 2007 7:07 PM
Is there any hope left for Hugh
Why would anyone else bother to go on the Hugh Mitt Show. You have clearly sold out to this man for what reason, I do not know, but it is truly depressing this fellow Presbyterian.

Cmon Hugh wake up and smell the coffee, or did you give that up as well??

Oh and as for Mr Vitter, you can continue to bash us Southerners since we truly are the only ones that are always open season. But as Seehawk stated, the Southerners also comprise a large percentage of the fighting forces that protect your right to make such inane attacks with out fear. hmmmmm

Appearing on your show is a waste
If I were Thompson or any other non-Romney candidate, I wouldn't waste a second to come on Hugh's show. Why? So Hugh can beat them down and talk up Romney? Does anyone at Townhall or any reader honestly believe that Fred or anyone else could EVER get a fair shake on Hugh's show?

I think not. Don't waste your time Fred.

Little Wonder
It is no surprise most candidates won’t appear on Radio Romney. I haven’t chosen a Republican candidate yet, nor do I have anything against Mitt Romney except his name is causing a Pavlovian reflex of me changing the channel every time I hear his name now on your show. You really can’t expect candidates to appear on your show when the host is wearing a cheerleader’s outfit with block letters ‘MR’ on the sweater. I really hope you could modify your non-stop Romney worship because I really did like your program and would like to listen to the whole program.

Good riddance Huck...
Huck is a southern conservative, not a western one. This means he has no reservations about big govt authoritarianism, tax raising populism, and Bible-belt conceptions of morality - and imposing said conceptions on the rest of America (the part that breathes with mouth closed).

Thank God the lines are finally getting clearer. I've said it before, but the GOP made a deal with the Devil when it opened its doors to the rubes who lost the Civil War. We should have let the Dems keep their racist die hard Yellow Dog supporters in Dixie, but we couldn't resist. Now we're stuck with them. As the Huckster becomes more viable folks like Novak won't be able to contain their disapproval. We'll lose 08 either way, but at least the party will be able to return to the good old days of Reagan, Goldwater, and a conservatism more in synch with Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek than Jim Bob Jones, Gay Ball Trent Lott, and their Bible beating minions.

Perhaps if you didn't
Bash McCain and Thompson at every chance, they MIGHT be more inclined to bother appearing on your (marginally rated) show.

Which raises an interesting question - was Mitt really your first choice, Hugh, or was he the only candidate willing to let you into his circle for breathless coverage resulting in a book? If Mitt had said "No", would we instead have suffered through the endless shilling of "A Baptist Preacher in the White House?" or even "A Libertarian Doctor in the White House?"...

Come on. Nobody with an IQ over 80 actually gives the prince of darkness a second thought. He is a morally bankrupt shill who can't be trusted. Look at the hackjob he made of the alleged Hill and Obama controversy - you know the one where he cited "sources" that were bogus. Hah! What an idiot.

Huckabee has at least shown compassion for those who have the least among us - a rare GOP that is for sure. The so-called "values voters" in our midst would do themselves a great service to actually ENTERTAIN the notion of "values" and "morals", rather than empty rhetoric and disingenuous lip service.

Rappaport Runs Over Romney
This is going to sting:

A scathing attack on Mitt Romney today from Jim Rappaport, the former head of the Massachusetts Republican party who just held a conference call with reporters to announce his endorsement of Rudy Giuliani. Rappaport praised Giuliani's record in New York and said Romney "has a strong record of showmanship as opposed to actual performance." Discussing Romney's relationship with the Massachusetts state legislature, Rappaport said of the former governor, "His word is no good…Mitt Romney would say one thing in a meeting and literally go out of the meeting to the press and tell the opposite story. There was no desire in the legislature to be accommodating to him because they couldn't trust him." Romney, Rappaport continued, "will be clear today on what he believes today, and he'll be clear tomorrow on what he believes tomorrow, but they may be different things."

So Hugh, why no coverage of this? Perhaps this is why Huckabee will not come on your show as you have proven your inability to be unbiased when it comes to anyone standing in the way of Mitt.
