SHOULD TAXPAYERS FUND ABORTION ABROAD?
Posted by: Michael Medved at 1:28 PM

As one of his first significant decisions as president, Barack Obama lifted what liberals describe as “The Global Gag Rule”—a policy banning taxpayer dollars for organizations abroad that promote abortion as part of their family planning efforts.

The core issue here isn’t free speech or free choice, as the left insists; it’s actually a question of federal spending priorities. At a time of pressing needs at home, why should taxpayers fund birth control programs for distant third world countries that include abortion? If private citizens wish to donate to these services, they are free to do so—and can even get a tax deduction for their contributions. But to use scarce taxpayer dollars to terminate pregnancies abroad is immoral in the eyes of many Americans, and should look wasteful and misguided in the eyes of all.

should US taxpayers fund
anything abroad? Fund birth control?

"Killing an unborn child is still murder."

Not in the law or in popular opinion. You might declare that clipping your fingernails is murder, but that wouldn't make it true.

Munck writes:
"Then why aren't conservative prosecutors bringing murder indictments against the doctors or the women who use their services?"

Just because no indictments have been brought does not make it any less a murderous act. Killing an unborn child is still murder.

OK Ivan : Have you figured out what level of consciousness, IQ, social interaction, etc a perosn has to meet to be worthy of living in your eyes ? What about the many documented cases of people in comas for years who have fully recovered against all medical wisdom ? Where do we draw the line?

Enough
Our country is in a Finacial Crisis and Obama and his crooked cronies want to help the world I say NO. Fix our own front door. We do not need to meddle in other country's problems until we fix our own.
GRBU2 writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 11:49 PM
Ivan misses the point
How can you cut the "GROWTH" but not cut back on the "POPULATION"? You cut back on growth and the population will be cut back also. We don't have enough money as it stands now to pay for all the entitlement programs (i.e. social security where my money is going to people now instead of being placed on hold for me when I'm retired).

Europe is going through this problem right now. You need at 2 kids per household to maintain the population. Many European countries are below 2.0. You don't have the young workers in place, you can't tax them for the ever-growing aging population.

Ivan - I think it's fairly obvious you understand the economics of nanny states and entitlements.
Dose of Reality writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 11:24 PM

Your comrad Hitler had an effective way to "cut the growth of the population" as well...I guess he was doing a good thing for the planet by your standards...

Ivan
Overpopulation huh? I would figure liberals would want more people on earth so more money can go into all the liberal entitlement programs? Who's going to pay for all that stuff if we need to cut back on the population?
Homer writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 9:29 PM
Then we can focus...
on Obama funding the increased production of scissors and aspirators. Just look at the jobs that will be created in the steel industry and the increased numbers of medical sales representatives doing cold calls on hospitals and abortion clinics. And did we mention the increased demand for funeral home and cremation center workers? Medical waste disposal technicians? We are almost at 4 milllion new jobs already, we mustn't stop there.

This is the end of civilization as we know it. The Beast is at the gate and the man created in God's image has lost his way. Gospodi pomiluj.

Lets Kill Our Own Unborn Children First
Then we can focus on killing the unborn in the third world.

We should first focus on increasing abortion here until we reach critical mass. We are no where near a saturation point.

We could certainly abort many more millions at home each year. It's called reproductive rights dont'cha know. You betcha.

Lets kill our own first. It's what Barbara Ehrenreich would want.

As a parting gift you give the mother who 'exercised' her rights a 3d sonic image of the child and a planned parenthood fridge magnet as a keep sake.
kbTexan writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 7:23 PM

The courts say they are human. Just shoot a pregnant woman in the belly and kill her unborn child. You can and will be charged with murder for killing that "blob of tissue" that isn't a baby.

Science also says it's a baby. Science has proven, without a doubt, that life begins at conception. Life has also proven that this "blob" never turns into a block of cheese, or a parakeet, or anything other than...a human baby.

You can use all the semantics you want and go as deeply into denial as you want, but no amount of argument or debate changes that fact.

Abortion murders babies...human babies...innocent human babies. How cruel can you be?

before accepting your nonsense about overpopulation, people should require you to prove there is overpopulation.

Absence such proof, you are just a gong clanging in the mall.

You bought into that pathetic LIE that the world is overpopulated? Maybe in China (1.5 B and growing in spite of their birth control) and India (1.2 b and growing because they do nothing.) these won't get the funds. The rest of the population is getting smaller. Do some reasearch! And no cherry picking.

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/01/30/mccain-i-dont-see-any -gop-votes-for-the-stimulus-in-the-senate/

I am so proud of Republicans for opposing this disaster of a Democratic "stimulus" plan! It is more of a big honkin pork roll sandwich. Do the right thing--fight this. No compromise at this point. Better the bill die and both parties start over. If the GOP votes 100% against this the GOP can block it with a Filibuster in the Senate.

Hold the Line! Hold the Line! Hold the Line!

Hate to break it to you, Roy, but I don't think much of those abortion funds will go to countries where abortion is banned.
Royinoslo writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 2:15 PM
An easy yes to this question
The emphasis is on birth control, which will have benefits for populations around the globe. It will decrease the incidence of crude, self-inflicted abortions that bring untold health consequences. If you look at the countries in the world that ban abortions--those are the places that you don't want to live.
Keith writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 2:11 PM
Not only no
Bit He!! NO! What part of NO don't you understand?
Charles Martel writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 2:05 PM
Yes! Of course we should!
The famous Roman Catholic communicant Nancy Pelosi has no regrets about reminding us that preventing children from surviving the womb is economically stimulative because it cuts costs.

Killing children in the womb serves the interests of the survivors. And there are just too many Third Worlders and other undesirables out there.

Well... at least one African too many.

Think about how costs could be reduced if only publicly financed abortion had been available to Hawaiian residents, especially wayward teenage girls, in 1961.

Beyond the moral issue of abortion
Why should we be funding abortions for foriegners in other countries? I thought we are having a financial crisis of our own?

But when you combine the fact that most voters (more than 50%) in this country reject public funding of abortions here except in cases of rape, it makes even less sense to do so abroad.
RASHUM writes: Friday, January, 30, 2009 1:37 PM
NO!
The answer to that question is NO!
