Jindal was terrible last week . Palin is the front runner . Romney although I voted for him is old news. I'd like to see Kaisch go for it. |
|
|
As I recall you are a Huckabee supporter. You prefer the strength he displayed...93% voted for someone other than Huck. Now that's the political strength you'd prefer? |
|
other than Romney. That is not my idea of political strength. |

You rubes in the GOP and RNC have no options! Mitt will be your nominee in 2012 and you know it! That is how things work in the Republican party! This "straw poll" is just the first of many manipulations that you shall see as the RNC and GOP fix this process for you! What you think does not matter! What the "bigs" in the party think is what matters! If they want you opinion, they will give it to you so sit down, shut up and watch the magic happen! It ain't going to be Palin! It ain't going to be Rudy! It ain't going to be anybody but Romney! Just like wasn't going to be anybody but McCain last time! |

The second excellent post was by Stoic Patriot which concerns the CNN Poll (conducted among Republicans) that came out a few days earlier where Sarah Palin came out on top closely followed by Mike Huckabee, with Romney a distant third, and Jindal barely on the radar. This second poll is more likely to be reflective of the true state a potential contenders for 2012 since it pretty much reaffirms what Rasmussen reported a little over a month ago. Still CNN polls are notoriously unreliable. To find out who is leading the field for 2012 GOP contenders we will have to wait for either a Gallup Poll or even better a Rasmussen poll.

I would have responded earlier but the analysis put forth by numerous posting has been pretty excellent, and no Frankie I am not writing about you. SCSoxFan is right Romney has previously won the CPAC straw poll for the previous two years, and in the end despite these victories and a ton of money (56 million just of his own money) and a good ground campaign, as well as many major Republican endorsements, he could not even beat the worthless John McShame.
This raises two questions, the first is that why couldn’t Romney defeat McShame? The reasons are that Romney has two serious handicaps that will still be with him in 2012 if he decided to run again. The first is that he was a social liberal while he was Governor of Massachusetts, and decided to become a “social conservative” when he wanted the Republican nomination. The Republican base simply smelled this phoniness and they wanted a true conservative on the ticket and they did not trust a blatant flip-flopper. The second problem for Romney is his Mormon faith which to put it mildly most American find to be weird.
The second issue that needs to be raised about this straw poll is what kind of “conservatives” were voting in this straw poll? I mean to vote for liberal flip-flopper? Do these attendees truly represent the base of the GOP or are them more in line with the GOP establishment which has run the GOP into the ground? See my second post for more commentary.

he did not do well in iowa, and for the money he spent not particuarly well anywhere out side of mormon parts of the west . |

You Watch CNN??? Hahahahahahaha. You shouldn't depend on that inept group of creative writers for factual information, you may as well read the Enquirer. I suggest you get NEWS from credible sources! |
|
every Republican I know from family, friends, & acquaintances voted for Mitt in the primary. ROMNEY 2012!
|
|
There is no one else out there who is capable of turning around this troubled economy and leading a nation. Run, Mitt, Run!
I know its just a little poll of conservatives but it was kinda wonderful to see him come out on top. |
|
|
If mitt could not win his own partys primary where out spent everyone at least 5 to 1 i seriously doubt he could come close to obama . with the economy going bad i doubt any republican could have done significantly better than mcain with romneys ties to the financial world he would have been blamed for the mess and most likely would have done even worse . |

would have run a much better campaign than McCain did. He would have questioned O about his minister, his associations, his ACORN activities, and his voting (tee hee!) record while in the State House and the US Senate. Mitt's questions would have demonstrated O's clear lack of experience; but more importantly, his lack of understanding the American psyche: self-reliance and personal responsibility! |

Seadog: the poll you're thinking of was not a straw poll where people go out of their way to self-select, but a survey that relied on simple random sampling.
The results from the CNN poll were as follows (compared against the CPAC straw poll numbers which are in parentheses)
Palin: 29% (13%) Mike Huckabee: 26% (7%) Mitt Romney: 21% (20%) Bobby Jindal: 9% (14%) Ron Paul: NA (13%) Newt Gingrich: NA (10%) Mark Sanford: NA (4%) Rudy Giuliani: NA (3%) Tim Pawlenty: NA (2%) Charlie Crist: NA (1%)
Someone else: 10% (NA) None / no one: 4% (NA) No opinion: 2% (NA) Undecided: NA (9%)
As another poster mentioned, straw polls are not representative -- particularly when 59% of the voting bloc is in the 18-25 age demographic (you know, the types that reliably show up at the voting booth =P). However, they are good for garnering press coverage which Romney is getting a shower of right now which is not decisive admittedly, but is helpful.
If you're looking for an interpretation of the straw poll, I'd say it's this: a significant plurality of the most committed Conservative activist-youths favor Romney. As such, you can bank on more "alternative media" (i.e. talk radio, Conservative blogs) also being favorable to Romney. |

He's great in straw polls with talking heads ,but he won't even come close in the primaries . |
|
the good ship Palin is going down with all hands-the question is do want the entire GOP on the deck with her as the band plays on...
heard that tape she sent in was a real barn burner too |

Sarah won a straw poll either yesterday or the day before at CPAC. No idea why they had two, or what the difference was.
Heard this morning, on either CSPAN-1 or CNN (or that HNL(?) channel that is essentially CNN-2) that the Draft Sarah thing is going great guns. Seems she is attracting a lot of independent, particularly women.
It was also mentioned yesterday that the Draft Sarah was the most active group at CPAC -- that was on MSNBC. The woman who is Scarbrough's sidekick (Mina?) was wearing a Sarah pin -- and she is a lib, pretty sure.
Don't count Sarah out -- she'll be the candidate for president or VP in 2012 -- best guess, of course. |
|
First, "big boost?" Okay, he won for the third year in a row. What did winning the first two years get him?
Second, 59% of the CPAC voters were under 26, and 59% were male. Hardly representative of the GOP as a whole (BTW, this also explains Paul's vote). BTW, Romney has also had a big organization on DC/VA area campuses.

And its really says alot that Palin tied with Ron Paul! So I'm going to give the Paulites the benefit of doubt that they are no longer the fringe-the Plainistas are the new offical outliers.
And how about that Chalie Crist??????? This was a conservative conference?????????? |
