Dems: 'Oh, We're Working a Five-Day Week. Maybe Next Week or the Week After?'
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 2:18 PM

Oh, when they said "five-day work week," you thought they meant, like, every week? Well, they wouldn't want to exhaust themselves too early in the session. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

Dec. 6:

"I have bad news for you," Hoyer told reporters. "Those trips you had planned in January, forget 'em. We will be working almost every day in January, starting with the 4th."

The reporters groaned. "I know, it's awful, isn't it?" Hoyer empathized.

For lawmakers, it is awful, compared with what they have come to expect. For much of this election year, the legislative week started late Tuesday and ended by Thursday afternoon -- and that was during the relatively few weeks the House wasn't in recess.

Jan. 8:

"Monday, January 8, 2007: The House is not in session."

Hill sources claim The House is taking Monday 'off' this week, because of the championship football game between Ohio State and the University of Florida.

Football over freedom, guys? Quite a contrast with this guy, huh?

Update: More lessons in voter-fleecing from the new majority. No one will ever notice.

Not too hard on 'em
I wouldn't be too hard on them. For years, the State of North Carolina celebrated the Easter holiday on the Monday after Easter. This was because the Legislature wanted to go to traditional baseball game between Wake Forest and NC State when Wake Forest College was actually in Wake Forest. This continued for years after WFU moved to Winston Salem.

who asked for it?
Congress will not meet today to begin the official "100 hours" agenda of the Democratic Members due to a request put in to the Democratic Leadership by Rep. John Boehner, the Republican Minority Leader in the House of Representatives.

"Mr. Boehner made this request, and in the interest of comity, Democrats granted it," a senior Democratic aide told RAW STORY.

A football game's all, eh?
Take a look-see at what January 9 has going for it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_9

Thinking they might want to take this one off, too. Matter of fact, the more days they take off, the fewer with which to screw things up. That goes for both sides of the aisle.

Let the Dog & Poney show Begin
Does anyone really care what happens tonight in the football game? When Texas choked, I gave up on college ball for the year and went into hiding until the "Real Game" starts in Spring Training. I would most certainly think that Queen Pelosi would like to get her reign on sooner than later. Can't wait to raise them taxes!!! WooHoo!

I put a new lock on my bank account that only Libertarians can get into with a Fair Tax. Then I'll give it up. Watch your tax dollars at work folks. The Reps and Dems are getting the show started. vrrrrrrroooom.......
