A Brief History of the Perils of Political Wimp-hood
Posted by: Mary Katharine Ham at 11:14 AM

A great read from our pal, Dean Barnett:
Yesterday's Wright-ditching press conference was for Obama what the disastrous New Hampshire debate was for Bush 41. The occasion called for Obama to take control of the issue, however belatedly. He had to be in charge. He had to be authoritative.

Instead, voters got the same Obama who slouched through that infamous Pennsylvania debate in which those meanies Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos asked him questions that weren't to his liking. Once again, Obama seemed like a defeated man. Chuck Todd described him at yesterday's press conference as "somber." Obama referred to himself as "outraged," but nothing in his manner communicated "outrage." What he looked like was a man whose political future was in jeopardy, and yet still couldn't rally himself to show some passion.

Wow...
A GOP partisan wasn't impressed with a Democratic presidential candidate.

Stop the presses, Perry.

I am not a Obama supporter but
Its was sad to see him stumble trough his refuting, appologizing maybe even his concession speech. While I disagree with almost all of his viewpoints I never thought he was a divisive man and he seems like he wants to do good.He is now being brought down by the people and institutions that propelled him to the forefront.
The press that eased him along without testing him has now turned on him leaving him ill prepared to deal with this type of scrutiny. his far left friends have been exposed for the USA haters they are. One only has to peruse through the comments on this blog site to see who throws the most anti-American bombs and tossing out the racist card as soon as they are intellectually challenged.
The bursting of Obama's bubble is not pretty and its bound to get worse.Even if he gets through this and wins the Dem nomination this will hang over him like a dark cloud. It's a hard lesson for him to learn and a tough pill for the far left swallow.

If...

If Obama can't stand up to his America-hating, religious extremist Pastor, how can we trust him to stand up to the America-hating, religious extremist mullahs of Iran ?

Wow 2
"If Obama can't stand up to his America-hating, religious extremist Pastor, how can we trust him to stand up to the America-hating, religious extremist mullahs of Iran ?"

Seriously, tell me you're really a Democrat mockingly playing the part of a right-wing loon, right?

Otherwise, if you're serious, I find your logic frightening.

OK, I think that
(assuming no legitimate third party candidate on the right)McCain will win the eleection against either Hillary or Obama, BUT having said that I also think MKH consistantly misses the entire point with respect to Obama. I totally understand that Obama does not appeal to MKH or, indeed, to virtually anyone at Townhall, and why should he, but I find these Obama-bashing columns almost laughable in their tone and content. If Obama were to be the candidate and if he were to win (which I really do not think he will -- I think McCain will trounce him, in fact), it would be for precisely the reasons that MKH and others attack him here.

I frighten Dread.

Well, Dread, be 'frightened' then.
Personally, I find Obama's wobbly knees in standing up to people he "disagrees" with to be pretty 'frightening.'
It takes a lot more courage to stand up to the Iranian mullahs than it does to stand up to a crackpot Pastor on the south side of Chicago who believes AIDS was concocted in a nefarious Federal government laboratory.
Besides, will it take Obama over 20 years before he finally "discovers" that the Mullahs believe what they believe ?
The world can't wait around for Obama to have an epiphany.

By the way, a lot of the angry Ron Paulistinians, the McCain-haters, and the Mormon-phobic evangelicals on the Townhall boards DO accuse me of being a Democrat !

Ha, ha, ha.

One hot minute nails it
"If Obama can't stand up to his America-hating, religious extremist Pastor, how can we trust him to stand up to the America-hating, religious extremist mullahs of Iran?"

Ditto. Obama is the Neville Chamberlain of our time. And he doesn't know ANYTHING about the economics of tax policy. He gave moronic responses in the ABC debate, and by the time Chris Wallace got him he could only repeat some coached talking points.

He's a coward. Character is essentially "doing the right thing even when it will cost you." Yesterday's nonsense cost him little or nothing. To have gotten in Wright's grill years ago about Wright's disgraceful views would have set back Obama's career for years.

Obama's conduct is made worse that he sat there picking his nose while Wright spewed this nonsense to thousands of people for years. I'm sure Wright performed great ministry work, but someone should have "spoken truth to power" to Wright.

"If Obama can't stand up to his America-hating, religious extremist Pastor, how can we trust him to stand up to the America-hating, religious extremist mullahs of Iran?"

Yes, of course. They are exactly the same.

One is a flawed man who's said some stupid conspiracy theory nonsense and some racist BS and is engaged in the political victim machine, but otherwise served his country and engaged in charity work for years.

And the others are despotic quasi-socialist rulers desperately clutching onto power any way they can through religion and oppression

They're obviously exactly the same. Wow, sorry I couldn't see that before.

Wow.

I never claimed they were "the same."

If a guy can't hit a fastball in the minor leagues, then why would scouts expect him to be able to hit a fastball in the MAJOR leagues ?---that's what my comparison is.

If Obama cannot find the courage to stand up to his America-hating Pastor (minor leagues), how can we trust that he will find the courage to stand up to the America-hating Iranian mullahs (major leagues) ?

It's the entire premise behind examining a candidate's 'track record.'
You do believe that we should look at political candidates' track records, don't you ?
