Obama: $60M in February?
Posted by: Patrick Ruffini at 5:23 PM

According to my initial projections off this crowdsourced spreadsheet of Obama donations I set up after the Wisconsin victory, Obama has already raised at least $45 million for February and is on track to raise $60 million for the month.

A source who tracks Obama’s public donation number like a hawk tells me that Obama had tallied about 256,000 donors for the year as of the end of January. Those donors produced $36 million in receipts, for an average contribution of $140.

Obama’s public donor count stands at 583,525, meaning about 327,000 people donated in February. With the same average, that would give Obama just over $46 million in 21 days.

This is in line with the expectations game they are playing. The campaign says they will raise at least $36 million in February. You can bet that they wouldn’t say that if they hadn’t already passed the mark, plus a decent sized buffer. Their lowered expectations call for them to beat January’s total, when they will in fact blow them out.

A couple of notes.

First, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the $140 average go up this month. People give more as the stakes go up. I’m sure he is also getting some “frontrunner” money he wasn’t getting before. I wouldn’t be surprised if the total would up being $70 million.

Also, thanks to an interesting quirk in the way the Obama website publicly records donations — batch uploading donations from made from the email fundraising link at once — it’s possible to separate out donations made from email from those that organically come in on the Web site. Both e-mails I tracked seemed to generate about 36,000 contributions, or somewhere between $3.5 and $4 million. So, even without any momentum-generating primary victories (in fact, there are none left this month), all the Obama campaign would need to do is send 3 or 4 more emails to their list to reach $60 million.

Adjust your March 1 David Plouffe conference call expectations accordingly.

On a related note, who is going to contribute to McCain? Sadly, not many I suspect.

Speaking of McCain, Michael Kinsley (self-affirmed Democrat and ranting liberal, nope, no media bias there) in Time magazine this week slobbers all over John McCain. Didn't he get the MSM memo that McCain has the nomination in hand as they planned and that they can now cease the lovefest and start attacking him?

Anywho, Kinsley goes on and on about how great McCain is, and how is it that the Republicans can by dumb enough to nominate someone so beloved by liberals?

Yes, Mr. Kinsley, many of us Republicans are scratching our heads wondering the same thing...

Your eternal quest for the presidency will doom us in 2008, Mr. McCain. Here's hoping the 4-year Obama presidency will be as quick and painless as possible. May 2012 come quickly.

Where the money comes from.
This is a good question. One has to wonder how in the world regular Americans have an extra $130 to spare after paying their mortgage whose interest rate and payment just drastically increased; whose for-profit health insurance premium that has more than doubled since 2001; the medical bills their insurance provider refused to cover; their car payment, or really any purchase considering the decline of the value of our dollar in the last 7 years.

Perhaps these fine folks decided to use a portion of one of their bill payments, knowing that they would intentionally be delinquent. Maybe they figured they could make better use out of money that was already spent, perhaps altering the playing field, so they have no need for debt in the first place.

I don't believe the window dressing X-Box checks have hit the mail yet, but Wanba has a great idea for when they do. Odds are, this money is already spent too. At least it will help corporations collect on a bill payment or two.

This should temporarily increase corporate profits and their respective stock values and ultimately the Dow for a little bit. If we are lucky, until November.

Old John

Since I'm not irrationally afraid of losing the victory in Iraq or the impact of two or three lefties replacing two or three lefties on the Supreme Court, I'm going to enjoy watching Obama make McCain finally have to face a sad reality: John McCain's arrogance cost him the White House. Specifically, the ugly side of McCain that was directed toward Romney, Bush, and many others will cost McCain what he's always dreamt of. John Kerry will most likely never grasp that about his run in 2004, but I think McCain will understand it on some level about his run in 2008, and he won't like it. Nor should he.

Again, since I know America is great country, too great to fall to the forces of socialism or multiculturalism even with President Obama and horrible healthcare programs for a period, watching McCain lose will be satisfying. Few men have deserved to lose the Presidency more than John Sydney McCain.

Antillectual writes: Friday, February, 22, 2008 9:37 AM
The Supreme Court is so stacked with
liberal judges, over the last several years they have declared that money is speech, corporations are a person, the first obligation of a corporation is to maximize profits regardless of how much this hurts America. If a corporation decides to defraud you out of your 401K retirement, you have no right to sue them. If the FDA approves a corporation's deadly medical device, your state has no right to sue the corporation.

They wanted nothing to do a case that involved the 4th amendment, but were glad to hear Anna Nicole Smith's gold-digging case. I guess you need to set priorities.

I don't know if average Americans can handle the Supreme Court becoming more liberal.

Gee all the dough that the Messiah has raised could now be given to all those unproductive people in the Dem Party to make sure they pull the lever for the Empty Suit. After adding up his billions in new taxes, in new government liberal fascist programs, one wonders whether he will have to print even more money to keep up with the socialist giveaways to buy even more voters for 2012. So as Dem and Pub billionaires are taxed out of their gourds, to keep the radical gangsters happy, by 2012, there will be few businesses able to hire all those retrained workers that Obama promises. Yep, tax our free enterprise system out of existance and we will have a Euro socialist pacifist state which the leftist elites have always dreamed and dreamed and............ I do have one question for the stat collectors. How will the so called Reagan Democrats vote? After all, they used to believe in capitalism, a strong military, and government told to keep out of our lives when we don't need them. Just how will they vote? For the Messiah or the Curmudgeon?

There's a good possibility of that:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/0 2/21/AR2008022103141.html?hpid=topnews
The prospect of being financially hamstrung by the very fundraising system he helped create is the latest in a series of bitter challenges for the presumed GOP nominee....
==
By signing up for matching money, McCain agreed to adhere to strict state-by-state spending limits and an overall limit on spending of $54 million for the primary season, which lasts until the party's nominating convention in September [it's on 1-4 September].
==
If the FEC refuses McCain's request to leave the system, his campaign could be bound by a potentially debilitating spending limit until he formally accepts his party's nomination. His campaign has already spent $49 million, federal reports show. Knowingly violating the spending limit is a criminal offense that could put McCain at risk of stiff fines and up to five years in prison.

I have thought about this long and hard, and my conciseness will not let me vote for Obama. There's no doubt that he is very charismatic, but when you peel away all that feel-good hope speech, he's just another liberal dimowit. He wants to snatch our troops in Iraq from the jaws of victory. He wants to raise our taxes. He wants to expand government and the influence that it has in our lives. An Obama administration would be a disaster for this country and I will not have that on my hands by casting a vote for him. The only thing he has going for him is that he is not Hillary.

With that said, I am in no way advocating voting for Juan McNasty!!! I think conservatives should all decide on a 3rd party candidate that best represents our principles. If enough of us vote for an alternative candidate, it will send a very strong message to the GOP that all those votes would have gone to the Republican nominee if that had only picked a conservative candidate. If we all vote for Obama, many people will believe (via the MSM) that conservatives and demowits are giving him a mandate to do as he wishes once he takes office.

I for one would rather see the story be how dissatisfied the voters were with their choices of Obama (or Hillary) vs McNasty. The only way to send that message is to have a significant number of votes go to a 3rd party.

Sure he has plenty of charisma and he may charm enough people to win the election this year, but I honestly believe that once the American people realize what kind of socialist reforms he would try to put in place, they will be begging for a real Reagan conservative to step in in 2012 and it will be a conservative revolution rebirth. I know liberals like you can't stand the truth, but the truth is the American people are still right of center when it comes to politics. Obama is an out and out liar but the hate America panel and audience didn't say a peep.
Obama stated he met a corporal or something that had been in Afghanistan. The officer told Obama his unit should be 39 but 15 had to go to Iraq.
The officer stated they were sent to Afghanistan with no vehicles or weapons. He said they had to capture prisoners in order to get weapons and ammunition.

Strange Year
I don't know if any of the posters have been paying any attention to McCain's campaign - it's quite clear from his recent speeches that he's going to run as a small government conservative.

He doesn't have a great stump speech yet, but he's honing some pretty strong themes.

1. Spending restraint - McCain is strong on this point. He needs to stick with this theme because it provides a huge contrast with Obama.

2. Trust in the people vs. Trust in the government- He's starting to hit this one. It's a lot similar to GW's effective refrain in 2000.

3. Realism in the face of foreign threats -
This is huge. If he can present his position on Iraq (reliance on Petraeus, slow, managed withdrawal) as the reasonable, rational approach, he can kill Obama, especially if he acknowledges the legitimacy of those who opposed the war from the start.

* Personally, I'm starting to see a clear path to victory for McCain against Obama. I think he can win in Florida, Ohio, and either Pennsylvania or Michigan if he sticks to these themes. He will hold the south and squeak out a win if he runs a good campaign.

Better yet, Obama is an unknown. All it takes is one or two big screw-ups, and this guy could become a national joke.

about Huckabee. I'm still not voting for him
Tuesday. But I've got to say-- I like him. And I
wonder-- could he be our strongest nominee?"

He could be. After the last two elections, featuring
the well-born George Bush and Al Gore and John
Kerry, Americans-- even Republicans!-- are
ready for a likable regular guy. Huckabee seems to
be that. He came up from modest origins. He
served as governor of Arkansas for more than a
decade. He fought a successful battle against being
overweight. These may not be utterly compelling
qualifications for the presidency. I'm certainly not
ready to sign up.

In Iowa, Huckabee did
something like what Obama did on the Democratic
side, albeit on a smaller scale. He drew new voters
to the caucuses. And he defeated Mitt Romney by
almost two to one, and John McCain by better than
four to one, among voters under 45.

son of mccain is toast
mccain's own deposition in 2002 contradicts yesterday's hasty response, where he denied ever spoke to telecom lobbyist Lowell Paxson.

I know this comment will not be popular but I have to say it. The media has completly dismissed Huckabee as a candidate as well as Ron Paul. This is wrong and there are many people who are outraged. There are still a good number of states to hold primaries. Not very many people are happy about McCain. If the remaining people would stand behind Huckabee it would go to brokered convention. The delegates are not obligated to vote McCain, If there was a clear message that the American people of the Rebublican Party were not happy the vote could change drastically. I am afraid if something doesn't drastically change The Repulicans are going to lose The house and the senate too. Too dangerous to be petty about religion. The issues are what matters and Huckabee is more conservative than McCain.

"Why do you read MY post so very carefully"? This sound very unusual.
My computer was attacked twice by virus and diabled, was that done by you? True Christians do not sound as resentful and hostile as you do!
Your outrage toward Hugh is very unreasonable, and unchristianlike.
I am entitled to call Huckabee, as I see it, as you have been calling Romney unkind words, for months.

Thanks, CDubber,
It breaks my heart, Synth. is not helping the conservative cause.
I truly believe, we can make our voice heard with much kinder and gentler, and as our Lord, had wanted us.
Thanks again, you are kind.
Next election, if we loose the Supreme Court, it will be devastating to pro-lifers, and it will not stop there the changes will be very drastic for ever.
