Obama Asserts Beijing Infrastructure "Vastly Superior" To Ours
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 6:13 PM
Obama, earlier today:

Everybody's watching what's going on in Beijing right now with the Olympics , Think about the amount of money that China has spent on infrastructure.  Their ports, their train systems, their airports are vastly the superior to us now, which means if you are a coporation deciding where to do business you're starting to think, "Beijing looks like a pretty good option."

I suppose so.  Provided you don't mind de minimus pollution controls, employing people under Chinese labor conditions, and you don't mind construction standards in the countryside that allow the collapse of thousands of buildings including schools when the earthquake hits, killing tens of thousands.

Obama has said a lot of stupid things recently, but the idea that totalitarian eye-candy engineering proves Beijing is the better than America is near the top of the list.

For more on Obama's very bad day, see ExUrbanLeague's diagram of the Battle of Elitisma.

UPDATE: From an e-mail:

hundreds of millions of chinese live in the countryside WITHOUT REGULAR
ACCESS TO UTILITIES, EDUCATION OR CLEAN WATER and modern farming
equipment....

about half of the Chinese hover right around malnutrition and no
education...

But Obama finds a way to condemn the U.S. by comparison.

How many did Barry throw under the bus?
I am not a big Biden for President fan, but of all the Dems he is the least offensive. The problem for Obama is Obama. Does Obama remember how many people he has thrown under the bus?

Let's count:

Grandma "a typical white woman"
Kenya Bro Bama
Jeremiah Wright
Father Pfleger
Bill Ayers
Hillary Clinton

I am sure you can all remember more.

I guess the Chinese could learn some California building code standards couldn't they? Remember all the deaths and orphans? That earthquake was not that much worse than ones that hit California every few years.

Know Hope Barry.

Oh, also, Mr. pathetic, maybe today
will be the day, when you can back up your duty/liberty assertion. Or maybe thats what you meant, when you said that you were "scalin' back". "Scalin' back" on the truth, that is!

Over the last month, you have been, well, just flogged here at HH, to the extent that you have become the new, "bjob", someone had to take her place, and besides, poor "bugsy" has to have his other half of the "dual fools". As it becomes more and more clear that obambi's chances are dwindling, you on the left will become more shrill, blaming it on racism. This no doubt, will happen, stoking racial tensions. You on the left will be to blame.

Mr. pathetic, you say i'm not
"born again", if you said that i was not a graduate of a University, to prove i was, i would produce a diploma as prove. For prove of one's salvation, that is "born again", one would have to go to the bible. Therefore, to the bible we will go, looking for those "explicit scriptures", you are so noted for. Lets start with John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in him should NOT perish, but have everlasting life". John 4:14, "But WHOSOEVER drinketh of the water that i shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that i shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life". John 3:36, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him". These are just 3 verses that i've commented to memory, that totally refute your assertion, and i've got hundreds more, but for now these more than suffice. So now Mr. pathetic, with scripture, prove me wrong. If you cannot, then once again, it proves for all to see, that you just make stuff up.

You really seem to be losing it, you're more pathetic than normal, not happy with slow joe, or maybe obambi's wimpy showing of late. You better get a grip, fan tan, theres more rain in the clouds.

"Me: Since when was elitism measured in $? Idiot."

It's a big, big part of it. McCain and his surrogates talked about how Obama had "attended an expensive private school" (on scholarship, but never mind that), how his "wealth has doubled during his campaign, and shot up tenfold since he entered the Senate," how he "eats fancy food at fancy restaurants," and how he "has millions in the bank." The photo they used shows Obama on the left half and a pile of twenty- and fifty-dollar bills on the right. They talk about how he's been swimming on private beaches in Hawaii (there are no private beaches in Hawaii, but if there were, they'd be expensive).

Those things all seem to involve money in various ways.

Would you assume that someone being accused of being elitist is poor? Do you know of a lot of poor people who are accused of being elitist?

My point was simple, which probably explains why it was lost on you, because I just know that you are so much smarter than me. Lets just think about this for a second. Doesn't it seem logical that contemporaries or near contemporaries would probably be in a better position to comment on the veracity of authorship vs. someone who is two thousand years removed, applying Western methodologies to ancient texts?

You are not "born again." That's an arduous discipline--not achieved by reading something from Acts and immersing yourself in water. So there is nothing to hate. Marvin the Martian, know this,
the pathetic one hates Christians, born again believers, calls us, "Christianist", this hatred is what animates him. Everything about him, emanates from this hatred and he has found the perfect home for his "born again" hatred, that is the abortion party. Nothing agitates him more than, when the name of Jesus is invoked. But did not Jesus himself say, " they will hate you because of me". When Jesus made this statement some two thousand years ago, he saw the pathetic one, and his hatred. Count it excellent, that someone like the "pathetic one", would have a differing world view, because again, scripture "explicitly" says, "woe unto the man who the world loves", for he has nothing to do with Christ Jesus. Jesus was the original, "Christianist", so please, pathetic one, by all means call us one as well.

Hmmmm,

Will I give more credence to a minority of dissenters today, or will I give more credence to the early church fathers (i.e. Clement of Rome, Polycarp, Tertullian, Ignatius, Origen, etc.) some of whom were discipled by the original Apostles no less (meaning some were contemporaries, or no less than a generation separated from Paul); these pillars of the early church disagree with your "Religious Studies professor". They're also deeply in denial and absolutely unwilling to hear anything they don't want to hear.

A million years ago when I was in college, I helped a Religious Studies professor do a linguistic analysis of the Pauline Epistles. We looked at word choice, sentence structure, sentence length, and several other measurable characteristics that essentially form a "fingerprint" of their author.

The so-called "Letters from Paul" were in fact written by a bunch of different authors, in some cases two distinct authors for a single epistle. (And no, I'm not talking about Hebrews). "Conservative Christian scholarship" was not amused, jumped all over the guy when he published.

More to the point, how much faith can you put in a book that lies about its own authorship?

Actually, China's quite impressive
Actually, the infrastructure in China is improving dramatically - which you would know if you've flown into/out of the Pudong Airport in Shanghai or the new international terminal at the Beijing Capitol Airport (I've flown into/out of both). Both are clearly superior to any airport in the USofA. I hate to say it, but it's true. I've taken the bullet-train from Beijing to Tianjin, and was terribly impressed. The ports near Tianjin and in Shanghai are spectacular. Beliefs in America aside (and I am a BIG believer in America), China is becoming increasingly attractive to businesses. Visit Yiwu, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen, and you'll be impressed. Even the aged rail system in China (which carries MANY more passengers daily than Amtrak) operates smoothly and doesn't have nearly as many fatal accidents as Amtrak. I don't believe in putting America down (because our infrastructure is superior in the bigger picture, and many cities are now developing better, more expansive light rail systems), but China's infrastructure is developing at a remarkable pace. It has to. While the USofA has 9 cities with populations of over 1 million people, China has over 300.

The point and scope of Obama's comments were:
1. China does amazing infrastructure work
2. We need to do amazing infrastructure work by spending some money on it.

No mention of admiring China's MEANS of getting that infrastructure. Just a point about how we are NOT attending to our infrastructure and need to. And guess what that attention will do? Create JOBS for people who need them when THEIR jobs are shipped off to China.

If you folks want to pretend China is not about to clean our clock economically, fine. But try not to lie about Obama just to support this denial structure on which the Right Wing Psyche is built. Those well-made Chinese ports are shipping all our stuff to us really well, I'd say. That they also built bad school buildings is neither here nor there, as we are not at risk of emulating that.

WE NEED INFRASTRUCURE. Period. Obama is right about that. Is McCain going to campaign AGAINST infrastructure improvement and jobs? Well, if he keeps campaigning on "more wars" I guess he will be by default, as there won't be money to spend on bridges and waterlines and whatnot.

Stunning, isn't it...
.... how easily -- and how often! -- leftists are fooled by the propaganda of totalitarian regimes.

For decades we listened to the left proclaim the superiority of communism and regurgitate the propaganda put out by the Soviet Union -- propaganda proclaiming their economic superiority and the inevitability of their triumph over the capitalistic west.

Eventually, however, the USSR's ability to lie to its own people and the rest of the world was unable to cover up the fact that Soviet Russia was an economic graveyard that had starved millions to death. The Soviet Union fell apart -- much to the embarrassment of liberals and leftist who'd been singing their praise for generations.

The same thing happened in China. After starving millions to death, the communists relented and reluctantly introduced some elements of capitalism. Now, fewer starve. So then the world hands the Chinese communists a propaganda tool in the form of the Olympics and the empty-headed Obama -- in his best Jimmy Carter imitation -- falls all over himself to suck up and proclaim their superiority.

But here is a fact that Obama and the other leftists can‘t evade: Communists regimes have to build walls around their nations to keep their populations from fleeing in mass. Capitalistic nations like the US, by contasts, need walls to keep from being flooded with refugees from the rest of the world. The facts are undeniable, Obama.

China's infrastructure? Ignorant Obama
What Obama said might be true on the very small scale of Singapore and Dubai, or in some ways on the large scale in Europe and Japan. Certain aspects of infrastructure are worth looking at and adopting when they makes sense.

But the United States actually has a very robust and complex infrastructure. And the wealth and prosperity of our country is a direct result of it.

As for China's, it is getting better but it is a red headed step child compared to the rest of the world. Not to say we should not invest in infrastructure improvements like China is doing, but to hold up China as a model is just ignorant.

What criteria led to this conclusion?
References, criteria, cost effectiveness of spending? ANSWER: None will be produced.

Truth:
Ideology led to conclusion.
Totaliarian state = good to emulate.
America (capitalism) does not have answer despite existing evidence to contrary.
We need to to tax and control resources to get these positive results. Socialist control = results you can believe in.

Amazing from mainstream media. No f/u questions.
What is the bases of your conclusion?
Are you saying a central planned economy is superior?

Sad, but don't hold your breath.
Grass roots ideas and communication will make a difference!.

One other thing, young man..
Scripture did not spring full-blown like Athena from the head of Zeus. For semi-literate chumps, it may seem magical, but for those of us who think rationally, in a systematic and scholarly manner, scriptural text was written and assimilated--in the absence of a printing press--for hundreds of years. It cannot be understood without some historic perspective. The Christianist clowns think they can read a verse from John and another verse from Romans, and make an argument for the "inerrancy" of Scripture. It is silly, ignorant, and self-referencing.

No, the fantasy comes from you. You just think it is bigger than you because it is shared by the self-satisfied louts at your local megachurch. But it is stupid and crazy and irreal. Your "faith"--however widely shared--is an insult to God and to our moral heritage.

Mac's aunt lives in a pad that Cindy acquired from her parents who bought it new in 1972. Long before Mac was around. The McCains themselves have their home in AZ and one in Arlington, VA. They bought their daughter a pad and Cindy owns a couple of investment condos. Yes they (well, Cindy mainly) own 7 properties. When it comes to impugning the service of the military it's a whole other matter. My father in law was a highly distinguished naval aviator who served through 4 wars. Making light of such things is disgusting to me. Members of my family have served the US in ways she couldn't possibly even dream of. My father in law reached the rank of commander. His cousin also had a title that started with the word Commander...but had two more words after that!! (Clue: the first one has two letters and the second one five).

Given the soviet use of potemkin villages to create the illusion of prosperity, it's not surpising that Obama the Traveler would find this greatly appealing.

Wikipedia has a tone-perfect definition: "Potemkin village" has also frequently been used to describe the attempts of the Soviet government to fool foreign visitors. The government would take such visitors, who were often already sympathetic to socialism or communism, to select villages, factories, schools, stores, or neighborhoods and present them as if they were typical, rather than exceptional.

Ah the wisdom of liberals
During the 1930's-'40's and then in the '50's. liberals, many Dems, writers, so called intellectuals, university doofuses, and people like some of the liberal dupes on this forum were singing the praises of Uncle Joe's Stalinist Russia, then Mao's Chi-com 'agrarian reforms', then Castro's medical care, then and now, Chavez' fine moralisms, and on it has gone for the Left. They always have had some romantic notions for dictators on the Left who have murdered millions and then praised their societies , their so called new looks at housing, industry, happy farmers called kulacs, and health care for all those poor that socialism itself had created. BO is simply just one more socialist pacifist nutter and the libs on this and other forums simply hate the successes of America and in spite of our nation's problems with bridges, clinics, streets, no one with any common sense or morality would want to live in any of those socialist pacifists or praise the thugs who have killed their own people not in the hundreds but in the millions. Katharina is an Austrian immigrant and her hubby kgk has taught political science for 47 year, have traveled all round the globe and with all America's faults know that no society on earth but America's gives people real economic, cultural, social, educational opportunity and liberty. And deport several million illegals while you're at it.

CA is 15 Billion $$ in debt. We are 50-something days and counting w/o a budget. The Dems want tax hikes; the Pubs are hanging tough--demanding cuts. Arnold cut all state workers back to federal min wage. The comptroller refused to send the checks out that way.

Arnold has taken the comptroller to court for defying an executive order. State workers are on the march. Arnold is scheduled to speak at the convention, but will not attend if there is no budget. Demands the same of the CA delegations.

To hell with what Andrew Sullivan thinks...and to hell with you and your disgusting minimalization of one man's incredible suffering...

McCain fractured both arms and a leg, and then nearly drowned, when he parachuted into Truc Bach Lake in Hanoi. After he regained consciousness, a crowd attacked him, crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt, and bayoneted him. Lieutenant Commander McCain was then transported to Hanoi's main Hoa Lo Prison.

Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, instead beating and interrogating him to get information, and he was given medical care only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral.

In August 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain. He was subjected to rope bindings and repeated beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.

Yep - just like water boarding. You continue to disgust me.

Hewitt: the idea that ... engineering proves Beijing is the better than America ...

See any difference between what he said and what you claim he said? I'm frankly puzzled how you can put both statements in your column so close to each other. How could you not realize you were being dishonest?

I don't think there's any argument that our ports, railroads, and airports are a screaming mess right now. Could Beijing (the city) have better ones than America (the country)? Of course they could, and apparently they do. Moscow always had better subways than we did, but that didn't mean the USSR was better than the USA.
