Popeye v. The Pretender: Obama's Big Debate Duck
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 10:29 AM
Supporters of Senator Obama have to be deeply disturbed by Obama's decision to duck Senator McCain's invitation to change American political debate via a series of one-on-one townhall meetings across the U.S.

Here was a chance to genuinely reinvent how presidential elections are conducted --to raise the conversation and empower voters, and Obama ran away.  So much for the Obama rhetoric of change and a new era: Obama's a machine pol afraid to get too far from Axelrod's script.

The big duck is an admission by Obama that the scars from his late primary season debate battles with Hillary still smart.  She creamed him in the late rounds, again and again, and since then the Obama gaffe machine has been in high gear, culminating this past week with "inflate your tires to energy freedom" prat fall.  Off-prompter, Obama is revealed as a pretender --a lightweight who can't make coherent arguments or sustain even short exchanges with hostile questioners.

Senator McCain has gone Popeye, which is just fine.  "I yam what I yam" makes a lot of sense to Americans, and the doggedness and patience of the old warrior shine brighter every day as it contrasts with the smoke machine around Obama.  Pushing back hard on the bogus charge of racism by Obama and his surrogates at the New York Times was exactly what the voters needed to see --the old fight and yes, the old temper.  McCain's great strength has always been his reliability on national security issues, and in an age of punks with nukes and oil --Ahmadinejad and Chavez-- a tough old guy looks pretty good, especially measured against a lightweight fighting way above his weight class.

Obama's big rallies and celebrity turn have had their effect, but now they are at least a wash as Americans on Main Street begin to wonder what Obama thinks he is running for, and what exactly he is bringing to the table.  Stanley Kurtz's examination of Obama's hard left voting record in the Illinois state senate answers the second question, and the refusal to stand by his commitment to "anytime, anywhere" debates with McCain underscores the impression that Obama thinks he is owed the presidency.

Obama may have peaked in Berlin, and the sudden recognition by millions that "there is no there there" will be solidified by Obama's big debate duck.

All hat. No cattle.  And no spine.

In fact, you extend to Bjob far too much credit while suggesting she actually had a "paid" position (i know, i know....you're a giver).

However, even Obama was smart enough not to promote Bjob further than anything but, volunteer.

Agreed all viewpoints, no matter how dim, should have their say provided the say is communicated in a less than profane manner.

However- given her(?) blindly idiotic pro b.hussein nattering, I truly suspected she was part of the empty suit's paid minions.

Erin, Erin, Erin...
You write of Bjob's banishment, having been vanquished as her scum deserved, however, you are infinitley "off-base" as to why.

You write:
"Did it finally come out that blob was actually a paid shill for b.hussein, or was it the crushing stupid blob brought to every inane comment he/she/it put on the board that go blob banned?"

Bjob was banished for the profane manner in which she communicated. Hers was an inability to string together any semblance of coherent thought, injecting her gross incapability of relying on civil dialogue. Oh, to be sure, there are many among us who reduce ourselves to sophomoric banter----myself included. She far surpassed this, to the degree of grovelling in the gutter with obscenities, four-letter epithets, and highly offensive references---as she conducted yesterday in name-calling towards, "hvs".

Erin, for you to even suggest, hint at, her demise as a result of her political ideology is highly dissappointing. There is nothing more valued here than divergent views---conducted in other than the obscene, offensive manner in which "Bjob" employed; it was all she knew though. She did not possess the grasp, the ability to communicate thoughts, articulate her perspective in any way other than offensively immature ways.
Again----so that there is no mistake about this; many here, including me, are capable of deteriorating the dialogue to juvenile banter. It is, however, a rare occurrance to witness the offensiveness of Bjob's language---her thinly veiled scrabble-esque, four letter blasphemy. Not to mention her desire to use race-baiting, race-hustling in ways to "guilt" others on this site.

latest evidence...
Mr. Hopey mcChangeagent, in the interest of leaving behind the politics of the past, ducks out on a new way for the candidates to meet.

Further evidence that even b.hussein knows he is a cypher, and empty suit blowing in the winds of expediency.

Once more, for the terminally stupid on this thread (p.l., briggs, etc.):

Being a bagman for Rezko under the guise of "Community Orgranizer" in Chicago, being a do nothing illinois state senator for several years, then being a us senator for 143 days does NOT qualify one to be President, no matter how well one can read a teleprompter.

This stiff is john edwards, with LESS experience, trace elements more testosterone, and less documented mistresses/beards.

Re: the demise of blob (aka Brob)-

What's the deal with that? Did it finally come out that blob was actually a paid shill for b.hussein, or was it the crushing stupid blob brought to every inane comment he/she/it put on the board that go blob banned?

He was not at all afraid
To be attacked in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Obama.

He was not in the least bit scared

To be called a Paris Hilton type,
Clearly a racist sterotype
Brave Sir Obama.

And Rove sent men to aide McCain
They called Barack chicken
And yellow
And scared
And then Obama cried its foul
And ran around like barnyard fowl

"That's... that's enough debate talk for now lads,
*** there's dirty "cynical" work afoot*** ???."

Brave Sir Obama ran away.

Bravely ran away away.

When campaign danger reared it's ugly head,
Obama bravely turned his tail and fled.

Yes, brave Sir Obama turned about

And gallantly he chickened out.

Also, this past week, at a middle school in Texas, the principal of the school allowed CAIR, to conduct an all day program about islam. The students were forced to participate. Among the topics, students learned the 5 pillars of islam and the most effective way to remove an infidel from his head. Yes sir, the NEA and CAIR, working together for a brighter America.

Obama has done a fine job of undermining himself now that Americans clearly see his lack of character, and ego-centrict ways by failing to admit the surge worked and by not visiting the wounded troops. You must be one of those "redistribution of income" libs that wants to take from the most productive (you know the top 1% of wage earners that pay over 30% of the taxes) to give to one of your favorite failed Big Government programs of yesteryear (Welfare, Social Security, National/Socialist Health Care, etc.) Read your Constitution and get into the free market. You might want to check the latest polls of likely voters - you'll find McCain is now leading. Voters are starting to pay attention as the election nears, and as with Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry, Obama's failed liberal policies of the past will pale in comparison to McCain's pro-American, free market approach. Obama is an old school, lefist/Socialist, redistribution of income, weak on defense, appeaser and Americans have rejected his ilk for some time now. You guys might want to come up with some new solutions, not the same ones that have failed time and again. Obama's depth of understanding the issues is summed up in his extensive solution to the energy problem - "Just put more air in your tires" !!! His ego and arrogance is now being reflected in the polls. Americans want solutions that work from strong minded politicians who don't claim "racism" every time they are attacked.

Obamas latest energy policy of "just inflate your tires" says all you need to know about the depth of this guy. Every voter should be required to read Jerome Corsi's new book "The Obamanation". We know Obama's policies are either weak or retreads of old failed liberal programs, and now we can get back to the real issue of his lack of qualifications to lead.

He is a student of the Saul Alinsky school of radical Left/Socialist politics and his associations with Wright and Ayers were part of that ideology. The smoking gun is Obama's current endorsement of Raila Odinga, the Prime Minister of Kenya. Odinga is a radical socialist who forced his way into power and has aligned himself with the radical Islamist party. Odinga comes from the same tribe as Obama's father. This episode gives us a window into the Obama mindset and approach on foreign policy. This guy is radical and his ideology is very disturbing.

Blood sport vs. the Olympics
"Obama may have peaked in Berlin, and the sudden recognition by millions that "there is no there there" will be solidified by Obama's big debate duck. "

Right. The assumption here, of course, is that people are paying close attention to politics and see it as a blood sport the way you do, Hugh.

Fact is most people aren't paying attention to this campaign precisely because it is so boring.

I'd argue during the 2000 election when Gore was running against Bush, the public was a lot more interested because the public was transitioning away from Democrats EVEN THOUGH THE ECONOMY WAS BOOMING IN 1999.

Such is not the case today. The election will be a no brainer vote for most people, an anti-Republican vote.

The economy sucks, the Iraq situation is highly unpopular, and generally the country as a whole believes we are heading in the wrong direction.

What's there to follow? Obama would have to commit an axe murder to lost this election.

If you want to talk gaffe's and "no there, there" all one has to do is reflect on George Bush's 2000 campaign. America elected him because he was the one they "most likely wanted to have a beer with". America is going to elect Obama because he is not a Republican.

I predict both political conventions will set records for *least* amount of public interest this year.

Minds are already made up Hugh.

Politics is not a blood sport to most people and the Olypmics will get far more attention.

It doesn't matter!
People are supporting him for 2 reasons: 1) He's a Democrat (i.e. an ultraleftist), and 2) he's half black (I.e. assuages White guilt). There are no rational reasons; however, that gets him 48% of the electorate. The trick is to get the other 52% to show up for a mediocre (at best) Republican.

It's called playing it safe
Obama is scared to take McCain on in a Townhall. There might not be a teleprompter and a team of liberal "Dr. Luntzs" to save him.

"All Hat...No Cattle...No Spine.." AND..
Clueless, Empty Suit, Ponzi Schemer, 3-Card Monty Dealer, Resumeless-TOAST.

And, we haven't yet watched Him heal the sick, make the lame walk and feed the multitudes at the Denver Acceptance Speech Outdoor Extravaganza.

Hope Johnny Little is thinking how, as President, he can get Conservative Justices 'under the treeline' of the radical Dem Congress. Barry is TOAST.
