Spiegel Online reports:
1:42 p.m.: SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. “Barack Obama will not be coming to us,” a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. “I don’t know why.” Shortly before the same spokeswoman had announced a planned visit by Obama.
Capt. Ed notes:
I guess this is a question of priorities. Barack Obama apparently ran short on time in his visit to Germany today, and travelers know how schedules can slip during long tours, even without all of the events Obama had planned. Those circumstances force people to prioritize their time, and eliminate less-useful stops.
And Jonathan Martin adds:
The optics here are not good: Obama has time to get in a workout and give a speech to a crowd mostly comprised of Europeans, but can't be bothered to visit American troops wounded in action recovering at a military hospital. Obama's explanation strikes at much of the criticism he's gotten from McCain and the GOP.

If McCain (finally) flips on Anwar so that across the board he's advocating all sources of energy and also flips his anemic position on illegal immigration, he will have 60% of voter right now.
He's an absolute idiot if he doesn't.
Obama is crippled by the hard-left's position on energy and a switch on immigration will solidify a lot of conservative support and attract a lot of independents.
Question is whether he's smart enough to do it. He has Obama nailed on national security, and the economy is the only thing that matters and that is largely dependent on energy. Everything else is a fringe issue. Obama will have Code Pink, the tree-huggers, and feminazis supporting his partial-birth position as his supporters.
McCain, wake up. |

The most holey lord Barrack Huesein Obama can not be triffle with the idea of speaking in German to Germans either. Barrack didn't go visit the troops because he probably felt a wounded solider would tell him a thing or to about hope/change. Obama is a punk of the worst order. He pretends to care about something for political gain, his actions however lead those of us intelligent enough to see through his lies to the opposite coclusion. |
|
"The troops are not fools. They know who is working for them and they don't need some fool like mcsame or bush standing with them in a photo op, holding a fake turkey and pretending to care while invoking the Stop Loss policy or ripping apart the GI bill behind their backs while they fight for our country."
Name me one thing Barack Obama has done to benefit any troop, soldier or vet anywhere. |
|
Oh please shut the hell up. Miniscule...???? Really??? To paraphrase an idiot round here...."It's breathtaking how quickly the libs try to change the subject every time their guy screws up!"
No jealousy here - we all know who the troops will vote for and if you could be even vaguely honest with yourself so would you.
And for once in your life why not take your own advice and wait for the details. First to post again....not much waiting for the details there was there? I have zero intent of waiting for the "details" (for "details" read campaign lies and spin). The facts are simple - talking to a bunch of Germans is more important to him than talking to the people who are actually fighting to protect his right to spew his crap.

....that when Merkel was asked if Obama had the necessesities to be a president, she replied, "Yes......physically?"
Delicious if true...... |
|
"While Barack Obama took a premature victory lap today in the heart of Berlin, proclaiming himself a 'citizen of the world,' John McCain continued to make his case to the American citizens who will decide this election. Barack Obama offered eloquent praise for this country, but the contrast is clear. John McCain has dedicated his life to serving, improving and protecting America. Barack Obama spent an afternoon talking about it."
McCain Campaign Statement (Spot on with this comment)

....the kind of thing that can turn public opinion quickly. Look for lots and lots of photos of BHO with soldiers, sailors and marines over the next few weeks to try to head this off. Kimberly thinks soldiers aren't dumb (unlike Jon Carry), but what do you suppose a poll of the military might look like? They would overwhelmingly support McCain because a soldier can spot a phony a mile away..... Ole Kim may finally be right about something..... |
|
|
is beginning to show signs of stress and strain, and the early formation of cracks...... |
|
Obama dissed the troops. Confederate Yankee has a couple of long e-mails from active duty personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan who say Obama avoided the troops at all costs. One e-mail said those with whom he did meet made special arrangements.
The troops hate him.
So, despite a rocky week at home for McCain, Obama managed to reinforce the antipathy that 35% to 40% of the country has for him, while leaving another 30% or so wondering WTF is he doing in Europe and leaving about 30% still believing he's the greatest thing since Lincoln and calling anyone disagreeing with them racists.
Nice trip, numbnuts. |
|

that racism will be the excuse when he loses. Undoubtedly. This is why I might be ready for a black president but I don't think other Americans are ( and they aren't the ones you might think of first) because they can't get past using race as a reason to vote for someone or to make excuses for someone. Of course the reason he is behind in the polls couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that the guy is inexperienced, spineless, arrogant and likes to have things both ways. Liberals just can't admit that they chose the worst nominee possible. |

The best caption for Barack Obama's Berlin Speech.

A note to looney Kimberly, ace.mu.nu has plenty of evidence that the soldiers don't like Obama. read the emails form the soldiers for yourself. |
|
If he didn't wan't to use US troops as campaign props, then TURN OFF THE CAMERAS, and go say thanks to them low-key.
This is BS. Obama would probably find more than a few supporters among those troops, but he decides to blow them off so he can go shopping, instead. Pathetic. |
|

Kimberly, I've got news for you. Your boy has run a "SHAM"PAIGN, I'll take the so called "Mc-same" anytime because I am a survivor with an informed, independant mind and the deluded Obama will unwittingly destroy our Country with his misguided, immature reasoning etc,. Should the empty headed, beguiled, smitten Obamagans pull off a win with his fantasy spin, there will be alot of Buyers Remorse! Ex Democrat, grounded in reality! |

Barack Obama is trying to channel JFK and Reagan with his Berlin visit. I get that. But substance matters too. What Germans think about Barack Obama probably should be questioned. Germans have had bad experiences in the past with leaders with charisma. Now when it comes to picking bad leaders, the German people are world leaders. The only group worse are the French and the only reason the French have not cause more harm in the world with their pathetic leaders is because...well, they are French. Too busy running away. I am not saying Barack Obama is anything like the worse German and French leaders. But I do fear a Jimmy Carter streak in the guy. |

Wonderful watching you people trying to make a big deal out of a schedulling conflict. |
|
|
I am reading some of the speach he gave in Germany. It sounds like he is running for God or ruler of the World. Our President shouldn't be concerned about his popularity in Europe!!! |

"Obama cancels troop visit"
"Republicans are, smartly, seizing upon this report from Der Spiegel (which has become a must-read this week):"
"SPIEGEL ONLINE has learned that Obama has cancelled a planned short visit to the Rammstein and Landstuhl US military bases in the southwest German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The visits were planned for Friday. "Barack Obama will not be coming to us," a spokesperson for the US military hospital in Landstuhl announced. "I don't know why." Kimberly - you must have s--t in your eyes and ears. All polls show our troops support the war and McCain! |
|
Obama will get no bump for this visit. Most Americans will wonder why he felt compelled to give a speech in Germany in the first place. Now wait until most Americans learn he did not visit our troops.
Kimberly – it is summer time! Since I know you do not have a job, take some Mydol and get out of you dorm room! Go to the beach, actually scratch that idea, I do not think anyone wants to see you in a bathing suit. You should go for a walk, get an ice cream cone, etc.
