Agresto On The Owed People
Posted by: Hugh Hewitt at 7:54 PM
You are going to want to read all of John Agresto's latest.  Quick summary:

In trying to resurrect conservatism and the Republican party, I fear there’s a whole segment of our country we can never reach. These people, whether rich or poor, are not our natural constituents. These are the people to whom things are owed.

Agreso's article
"How bizarre it was to see a plumber trying to come to our rescue and tell us what to say; but it was already too late.'

THIS plumber has been saying it since Bush 1.

Also, there's a lot of "we's" and "us's" in the article. Leave ME out of it. I didn't vote for Bush 1, Dole, Bush 2, or McCain in any of my caucuses. Chances are nearly 100 percent that I'll not be supporting the eventual winner of the 2012 GOP primaries either.

Wimpy, limp-wristed, compassionate "conservative" pu**ies,....

...that's who we'll end up with again 2012.

Maybe union plumbers vote Democrat. Their a**es get more work than their tools do.

Most plumbers are men though. As a plumber who knows dozens of plumbers, if one actually did vote for Obama, he's too afraid to admit it in public.

Most of us would ridicule his manhood...and for good reason.
jtb-in-texas writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 12:40 PM
According to the Democrats, it's only a
person who has to work for a living who is rich...

Those with inherited wealth and those who rely on taxpayers to feed them are "the middle class"--and "the poor"...
Col Bat Guano writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 11:26 AM
YES!!!!
Agresto for RNC chair!! This is where the GOP needs to go. Stay away from the country clubs and start doing ride-alongs with Joe the Plumber. Small business is what's going to get socked the worst in Obama's tax plan over the next four years. We're in Joe Biden's gunsights for a tax hike and I'm driving the same piece-o-crap car I did 11 years ago fer crying out loud. All to pay college bills. Wasn't expecting a handout from "de guv-mint" to fund our kid's educations and sure won't be in line for one now. Hey Slow Joe, just don't get in the way of us taking care of ours - it's our JOB!!!

Small business is what makes this country tick while the large bloated dinosaurs testify in front of Congress asking for handouts. That's the people the GOP best focus on or it will join the Whigs in relevance.

And this, for you, will far surpass any lesson you hoped to pass along.
You missed entirely my point in calling you "uncomfortably short". The fact that you attempted to oversimplify the voting demographic/psychographic of the two parties with relation to "wealth" provided me similar opportunity to "label" you.

BTW small-minded person, it was not at all about Napoleon's physical measurements, my metaphor. It was very much about the "complex" he suffered from---it's right there in my initial post directed at you---with inference to your complex.

Have at it, yours is the last word, as you would choose. This subject is tired for me.
Exeye writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 10:46 AM
More an issue of aspiration
I am not a rich person. I want to be a rich person. So, I vote Republican.
Dave writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 8:52 AM
to clarityseeker
There is no doubt that poor people mostly vote Democrat, except perhaps in the deep south..

Rich people, REALLY rich people, also mostly vote democrat, for two reasons--

They don't pay much in taxes, because they're sheltered, and

they feel guilty about being rich and vote for the party that spreads the wealth to ease their guilt.

But the Republican voter is the nonrich nonpoor guy, the schlep who spends 80 hours a week earning 2 or 3 hundred thousand bucks. And finding a big target on his back.

If we're going to spread wealth, I vote we seize ten percent of all outstanding wealth and give it to the poor. THis means that FINALLY the Gates and Buffett and Cuban will pay their fair share.

yeah baby.
Dave writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 8:00 AM
Not complicated
He's right in this sense... once the number of people who essentially survive on government dispensation reaches 51% of the population, as it already has in some areas (Cleveland, OH, anyone?), then the producers have already become the slaves of the nonproducers... our place in this world is simply to work to provide a living to those who do not, and we have no more control politically.

At the other end of that road is a bloody civil war, folks. It might be nonviolent, just a John Galt national action, but the end will be the same.. lots of miserable people with very little, all blaming each other.

Nice going, Dems. Nothing like being the captain of the Titanic, eh?
clarityseeker writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 7:21 AM
Napoleon
Now even you make an about face on your argument. Now you claim it is, "more complicated than you seem able to understand".

But then, you are the one who has efforted to simplify it by saying,
"The fact is, poor people vote democratic. Rich people vote Republican. There are some exceptions, sure, but the trend holds. Agresto lauds firemen and policemen. They too vote democratic."

I refuted your comment, giving examples, and this chastens you.
Big whoop.
It does not make your oversimplified rant any more plausible. Fact is, the very "rich" do have legal representation to protect their assets from onerous taxes, which is why "rich" democrats pay little mind to OB's progresive tax intentions. The data is there, even for myopic, uncomfortably short people such as yourself. There are huge numbers of "rich" people, who also vote democrat. This shortcicuits your oversimplified wiring system. I too agree with, "Trampling" in that this is a side issue.
But for you, it has been your central focus to argue against this Agresto piece.
MaryStella writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 1:10 AM
For Now the Party of the Elite, & Rich
Belongs to the Democrats. They own it.
But as promised by their leader, Change is coming. Mr. Obama, will radically change America.
The next four years, will be the most change you will ever experience in the history of this nation. For better or worse America will go through very hard times, and our beloved leader will ask of his little people to make great sacrifices for the homeland. Mr. Obama's command is our will, or his will is our command, it doesn't matter. His Wish, we will obey.
Get ready for tough times. You ask for it.
Under the citizenship of the world, we will be following mostly U.N. madates.
Julie writes: Friday, November, 21, 2008 12:19 AM
Napoleon,
Please don't discount the thoughts of other posters simply because you do not agree with them.

Where do you get your data that, as you say, "most plumbers like Joe are democrats"?

I make about the same as most plumbers, and I'm a single mother of two. My ex is not supportive. When I talk to other middle-income folks, they are reluctant at first, but when they realize I'm conservative, they start gushing.

Joe the Plumber lives and breathes, and so does Josephine the Decorator and Dave the Drywaller.

In your own words, Let Me Summarize for you: Joe, Josephine, and Dave do not need a tax hike. They want to build their businesses and create jobs.
Julie writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 11:35 PM
Napoleon,
I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in the Midwest, most would agree with clarityseeker.

You're right, Office Space was a very good movie. Funny! But unrealistic.

And who cares about fiction when our Treasury Secretary Paulson is throwing our tax dollars around? If he keeps giving our money to failing institutions, we'll all be in a sad state in less than a year.

BTW, I agree with "Trampling". No one owes me anything. I started out with nothing more than good family, good values, a will to learn, and a will to survive.
Trampling out the vintage writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 10:18 PM
Owed people will never be Republicans.
What does that have to do with the rich? There are many rich people that feel they are owed. Owed people do not belong to a financial class, they belong in a mental class. A mental class that the Democratic Party embraces and emboldens.

The new Democrat Party is becoming the part of the rich/elite.

The Republican Party has been falsely accused of only being the wealthy. This is completely false today.

Joe the plummer is representative of the greater part of the Republican Party. Joe the plummer doesn't feel owed by anyone or anything. The Republican party belongs to people seeking the American dream through personal, hard work.

clarityseeker writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 9:30 PM
Hey---short man, Napoleon...
I gave entire clusters of Democrats residing in the wealthiest areas of the USA. But then, your ignorance allowed you to entirely ignore this.

Again, here's but one article to dispute your ignorance:

http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/10/13/the-rich-support-mcc ain-the-super-rich-support-obama/

(*for you, ignorance is a virtue)
clarityseeker writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 9:28 PM
Hey, short man...
You, Napoleon.
One other thought.
You say, "Agresto lauds firemen and policemen. They too vote democratic."
Oh, you don't say. Then praytell, why is it that all of the firemen and policemen who were given free entry into the concert at Madison Square Garden following 9/11/01; why is it they BOOED Hillary Clinton when she addressed the crowd? These were democrats?
In fact the din of boos were so loud, that VH-1 attempted to rewrite history by masking out these boos, replacing/overdubbing them with applause?
But then, Mr. Sumner, that super "rich" guy who owns Viacom, which owns VH1, is a democrat and fullthroated supporter of the Clintons:

http://eddriscoll.com/archives/004353.php

(those wascally democrats, caught again rewriting history)

And here is but one article refuting your "exceptions" rule to the rich-are-republicans:
http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2008/10/13/the-rich-support-mcc ain-the-super-rich-support-obama/
clarityseeker writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 9:10 PM
Napoleon, to your complex...
So, you claim in cavalier fashion that,

"The fact is, poor people vote democratic. Rich people vote Republican. There are some exceptions, sure, but the trend holds."

Oh, really? So, you would consider as, "an exception", examples of the rich in individuals such as, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, George Soros, and countless others who track Democrat. And then there are the wacky-wealthy hollywierdos, Babz Streisand and her endless cabal of "rich" Democrats. To educate you on the sheer volumes of "rich" Democrats in "Silicon Valley" would exhaust even your complex.

Malibu 'rich" tracks Democrat.
Boston "rich" skew Liberal.
San Francisco elite "rich" lean Left.
Manhattan "rich" is overwhelmingly blue.
Seattle "rich" goes ga-ga over Obama.
Fisher Island "rich" is Democrat.

I could go on and on with examples which blow teh snot outta your quip about, "there are some exceptions".
That kind of cheap shot is a bit like me making the crass assumption that you are "uncomfortably" short. I mean, just admit it, Napoleon?
clarityseeker writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 8:26 PM
No revelations here...
When the drumbeat of democrat-driven dogmas promising handouts; "gimmes", ENTITLEMENTS are played from birth, what does one expect.
The party of:
food stamps
welfare
government cheese
free education
affirmative action
quotas
promises of "reparations" 'cuz they owe us...

what does one expect?
An Instinctive Gesture of Reciprocal Liking writes: Thursday, November, 20, 2008 8:08 PM

Wow!

I can make blanket, unsubstantiated statements as well:

In trying to further increase the Democratic majority, I fear that there are segments of the country that we can never reach. These people, whether rich or poor, are not our natural constituents. These are the people to who disdain intelligence, introspection, critical thinking, and sympathy/empathy. These are people who look for instruction from the likes of "great thinkers" like Sean Hannity and Mike Gallagher. These people are certain that the world is black and white, always. These people are a dying breed.
