An Anniversary Worth Remembering

Twenty years ago today was Dan Rather's on-air ambush of George H.W. Bush, which resulted in one of the best (only?) zingers the President ever delivered:

"It is not fair to judge my whole career by a rehash on Iran. How would you like it if I judged your whole career by those seven minutes you walked off the set in New York."

Bush I - intolerable boob
Iran/Contra was decidedly one of the worst scandals a President has been involved in - next to waging an illegal war, of course - and yet, being allowed to trivialize it on the same level as a newsman walking off a set is exactly what is wrong in this country today. Bush the criminal elder should've been made to pay for his sins, rather than given a get out of jail free card by Clinton. He should have been unceremoniously strung up, and Ollie North should have been taken down with him. Instead, we've got these guys sitting atop their mountains of money like corrupt poobahs, while half the morally inept nation prays to the alter of that other criminal, Ron Reagan.

the return of Soothsayer
Soothsayer ! We haven't heard from you since around Christmas. I was wondering if maybe you weren't hanging around because you had found Jesus during the holidays. Then I thought about it, and concluded it was more likely that the cops had FOUND you during the holidays! Anyhow, it's good to see someone bailed you out. Be sure and make your court date.
