Return of the Kerry Magic!

Democrats must be cursing that damn Karl Rove. How does he do it? From where in the black depths of his soul did he conjure the idea of putting a microphone in front of John Kerry’s mouth during the last week of a campaign season? We all know the truth now, and it is incontrovertible: Karl Rove is one magnificent bastard!
For those of you late to the party, here’s the source of the controversy:
According to the Pasadena Star-News: "Kerry then told the students that if they were able to navigate the education system, they could get comfortable jobs - "If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," he said to a mixture of laughter and gasps.''
The suggestion that only defective students go to Iraq is manifestly offensive and a needless slur on the troops in Iraq. While Kerry may have been painfully recalling his own experience at Yale where he got 4 D’s during his freshman year and ultimately wound up in Vietnam, there’s nonetheless no excuse for these comments.
I assume if you’re a Democrat, you’d like to see this controversy go away since most people won’t incline to share Kerry’s view that it’s quite cricket to call our soldiers a bunch of dullards. If Kerry were a team player, he would issue a perfunctory apology and let the story die a quick death.
But Kerry is no team player. Never was, never will be. He is once again playing the “Swiftboated” card and his response to the controversy is almost as obnoxious as his original comment. A news release from the Senator’s office reads in part:
Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:
“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did…
It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have…
These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.
Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men.
By all means, read the whole thing. The part about Rush Limbaugh making fun of Michael J. Fox is especially on point.
The paragraph I bolded and italicized is particularly telling. John Kerry thinks his service in Vietnam four decades ago means his every comment and action should be beyond reproach. It doesn’t work like that. Ask Duke Cunningham. It’s rather amazing that a man of Kerry’s age and experience has formulated such a simplistic, juvenile and narcissistic worldview.
At a time like this, I think it only appropriate that we thank the Lord that John Kerry is one of the public faces of the Democratic Party. It will truly be a delight watching Democrats who tapped the Kerry fundraising spigot this cycle rush to distance themselves from the Senator as his mouth has put his career and those around him into full-on Chernobyl mode.
What’s the next trick up Rove’s sleeve? An open-ended interview with Howard Dean?

What Kerry Said: “If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy."
Translation: "What are you going to believe, Me, or your own lying ears?" |
Kerry was not joking. It was a freudian slip. He believes every word.
But that much said, let me add my reaction to what he said:
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Ha! You are such a doofus John F. Kerry. |

And her name is stromsdaughter! Actually, it would be better if her name were stormsdaughter then because she seems to cloud up and rain all over everything including her own illogic! Of course, perhaps I'm being too harsh on stromsdaughter.
Regardless, stromsdaughter is akin to snaps in so many ways. I guess we'll never be totally free of his ilk or her ilk, pity! Oh well, cheers, ta ta!

would someone please put this poor idiot in a locked padded room and throw away the key. he is unbelievable and crazy. |

Sorry Dean, but this is Buckneresqe. Actually worse because it is an unforced error.

Among all the Kerry apologist comments on YouTube, this one stood out:

invent68, without regard to politics, I'm offer the following: Dumb = Serve in military Kerry = Veteran Bush's GPA > Kerry GPA at Yale Q.E.D. That said, I was A. Co., 159th Avn. Bn 101st Abn. Div. Phu Bai and have no problem with draft resisters. The resisters, be it Clinton or Bush (assuming you believe they were resisters) were a darn sight smarter than I.
Invent68 could be a close relative of snapdigger

... to see her famous words about Lillian Hellman taken on as the guiding operational principle of the entire modern Left.
Nahhh, that's not fair. Leftists were already doing that back in her day; Lillian Hellman was just a particularly egregious example. |
Dear God,
Thank you for John Kerry.
Signed, Karl Rove |
um, I'm sorry to have to point this out, but you completely undercut your own argument that Kerry was speaking of Bush. You followed that up to say that Kerry was right to criticize the troops and backed it up with "facts" about how stupid they are.
It's called coherence. Look into it. |
As a twenty year military veteran(Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan). I am disgusted by the comments made by Kerry. Looking at the footage he is not refering to Bush, but plainly taking a jab at my comrades in arms. The citizens of MA would be ridding themselves of an embarassment if they vote him out the next time he comes up for election. |
I would say that in my brief experience to the blogosphere, not one DB or forum that I have seen can claim that it allows unbiased blogging and commenting. For example, I did a simple search on Kos today while I was on there looking to see their reaction to this situation. No articles found in the last month on illegal immigration - heck, they didn't even start discussing Kerry on Kos until earlier today, when it mentioned only after his response.

this baby's not going away. And you are bassackwards correct: WE ALL KNOW WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO SAY. |
get out the vote! every republican running for office whether ahead or not needs every vote rain or shine. im voting chase for senator in mass. if only to oppose KING EDWARD. you know the real enemies out there. ACLU BLITZER CLINTON DURBIN CNN SCHUMER LEAHY 9TH CIRCUIT COURT KERRY PELOSI BOXER
the list goes on, lets do our part to make it smaller.

should say "singlehandedly help..." |
will JFK be remembered as the only politician in history to help his party not win 2 elections and his country not win 2 wars? |
Wow, so many people worked into a frenzy over something pretty minor. We all know what he meant to say. Kerry is not so stupid as to intentionally take a jab at the troops a week before an election that hinges on a war. C'mon, he speaks French. Don't turn this into a negative for the GOP. Just let it stew a little. He'll probably slip and say something genuinely stupid sooner or later. Personally, I'm content to just let him. |
One thing that bothers me about this blog is the number of people on both sides who equate a typo or a hastily written sentence with IQ. Rojo, you made the point. We type in haste.
Stromsdaughter, context proves he's scrambling. Kerry contrasted getting a good job with being stuck in Iraq. He contrasted studying hard with being lazy. Studying gets you a good job, being lazy gets you stuck in Iraq. Did you read the sentence that said there were gasps from the audience? The audience knew what he meant. There is no way to say that he was talking about students getting good jobs, but Bush getting stuck in Iraq. It's another Kerry lie.
His handlers are probably writing his statements as fast as they can. |
Assuming the accuracy of what you report... were the Army to allow 10% of its recruits to lack high school diplomas, that would STILL put the Army well ahead of the general populace, which has a 75% grad rate. Just FYI.
Oh, and as for your endorsement of Kerry's lie that he was talking about Dubya: assuming this is true... Dubya got better grades at Yale than Kerry got at Harvard, and he is now president, which Kerry isn't.
Yeah, that George Bush sure is a dummy. *eyeroll* *facepalm* |
Well, by Kerry's logic, he has no place to criticize the President, since he's never served in that office. |
"... these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men."
John F-word Kerry thinks he's a real man! |
I can't believe Kerry is selling this as a joke against Bush and some in the media are buying it. Today's hissyfit of a presser he had no trouble saying "President Bush", in 2004 no problems attacking Bush and using the words "President Bush", yet during this 'joke' he doesn't use the words "President Bush". Also look at the clip he isn't smiling or laughing or anything that shows it to be a joke. And, honestly whats the joke study hard and do well in school or you might become President of the United States? |
The worst dream of his party is being realized as Kerry blunders into telling us how he really feels. |
Just keep talking and like your man Kerry you'll sink deeper and deeper. It would hve been much easier to just apologize, preception of the listener is much more important than the meaning of the speaker and all service members past and present either dems or republicans have been hurt by his statement and attempt to recover. |
well, let's all thank sromsdaughter for not mincing words. we'll also forgive her for not mentioning that the numerical recruiting goals have increased every year since the war began(and been met for the most part). we'll also forgive her for not mentioning that 75% of active duty personnel re-enlist, even after seeing combat. also unimportant is the fact that the overwheling majority of the "stupid" enlistees will pursue basic, then advanced education via opportunities available only through the military. i have to wonder how many "stupid" people our elite saviors of the left enlist to disrupt civil forums of discussion across this great country? i'll bet they have no trouble meeting that quota. |
I repeat it because it takes some people a little longer to understand it than others. I also repeat it because I like to back up what write with facts.
I looked all over Townhall and could not find one story about George Allen's staffers tackling a man. I wonder why it was left out? |
"...man of Kerry’s age and experience..." What experience? |
Why do you feel it necessary to repeat the same information on more than one comments board? While the Army may have authorized this, you should keep in mind it is not the rubber-stamp process that you are trying to make it. And I would tend to believe that with the current push for continuing education of troops in all branches, they will not remain without a GED or HS Diploma very long.. if they are even accepted in the first place.
I'll take my brother-in-law for example. Currently an MA in the Navy (Master at Arms), he came out of HS with not good grades. 9 years later, he's only a few classes short of his Bachelor's Degree and has made it to E-6. Or take another individual, who in another branch spent his first 3 and a half years studying to get his degree. Most branches encourage higher education, giving them a boost in their performance review. Lastly, I know a person about 8 years ago who was in the Army National Guard who used his GI Bill to get him through college and get his commission.
So if you are trying to say that the people that join the military ARE poor or undereducated, I would highly debate that. It gives some of these people a chance to get an education where they would struggle even more to do it outside the military.
And by the way, since you want to start talking about military service, what's your service history look like? I would love to hear that you have protected these beautiful United States as well. |

Pasadena City College is one of California's numerous two-year junior colleges, from where students transfer to a 4 year college or university.
John Kerry was there campaigning with failing Democrat gubernatorial nominee Phil Angelides, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaragosa. Angelides has been campaigning on 'education,' and Mayor Villaragosa has recently announced the appointment of the new superintendent of schools for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Kerry's comments were absolutely in the context of STUDENTS, education, and their futures.
For John Kerry or his angry minions to claim he was referring to the President, rather than the men & women proudly serving in Iraq, is a lie. |
Further evidence that the war in Iraq is wrecking the U.S. Army: Recruiters, having failed to meet their enlistment targets, are now being authorized to pursue high-school dropouts and (not to mince words) stupid people. This year the Army set a goal of recruiting 80,000 active-duty soldiers, but it wound up with just 73,000—almost 10 percent short. As a result, the Army Times reported this week, the Pentagon has decided to make up the difference by expanding the pool—by letting up to 10 percent of new recruits be young men and women who have neither graduated high school nor earned a General Equivalency Diploma. More than that, the Los Angeles Times reports today that 4 percent of recruits will be allowed to score as low as in the 16th to 30th percentile—a grouping known as "Category IV"—on the U.S. Armed Forces' mental-aptitude exam. As of 2003 (the last year for which official data are available), just 6 percent of active-duty Army soldiers lacked a high-school diploma or a GED. Just 1 percent scored in Category IV on the aptitude test.

should read "when impugning someone's intelligence"- yeah yeah yeah, gimme a shiny star as well. |
Yo, stromsdaughter-
When impugning the someone's intelligence, it is generally a good idea not to misspell a word in the headline of the post where said impugning takes place- the word you were looking for was "too", not the prepositional "to".
But that's okay, you tried very very hard. A big shiny star and a hug for you! |
So let me get this straight- according to Kerry, those that have never worn the uniform cannot comment about his imbecilic words thoughts and deeds because he did wear a military uniform.
Notwithstanding the fact this statement completely contradicts his heartfelt blabbery on the Senate floor when he defended Clinton's conscientious objector status, this nonsensical bleating raises an interesting thought....
As kerry has never worked at a job in his life outside of living off the mass. taxpayer and/or "inheriting" the dough of better men than himself, by his own logic he is forbidden to speak of the economy, labor, income taxation, or jobs.
In short, shut yer piehole ya geek. No wait- keep flappin', yer doin' the GOP a helluva lotta good. |
I think Tony Snow did not understood John Kerry he was talking about Iraq. It is a perfect example of what John Kerry was saying. Someone that is not bright got the troops stuck in Iraq. |
I'm so grateful he didn't win in 2004. He needs to come off his high horse and make an appology to those who are wearing and who have worn the uniform. |
