Pretty Shameless
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 5:28 PM

If I had been a Clinton supporter -- or just a leftist committed to defeat in Iraq -- I'd be pretty bitter about this one.  Remember Barack's promises of immediate withdrawal from Iraq -- the ones that distinguished him from Hillary's more "nuanced" position?  Apparently, as Politico's Mike Allen reports, those Obama pledges are no longer operative:

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) promised primary voters a swift withdrawal from Iraq, in clear language still on his website: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months.”

Not anymore. Heading into the holiday weekend, Obama and his advisers repudiated that pledge, saying he is reevaluating his plan and will incorporate advice from commanders on the ground when he visits Iraq later this month.

Anyone who's observed politics for any period of time is used to some finessing of positions between the primary and general elections.  But the scope and the boldness of Barack's flip-flopping is really breathtaking.

This should be a warning to any conservative or Republican who, in a moment of madness, might even contemplate voting for Barack (or not voting for John McCain).  Barack said what the left-wing constituency in the Democrat primaries wanted to hear -- and now he hasn't hesitated to crumple them up and throw them away like a dirty Kleenex.

Does anyone think he'd have the slightest hesitation about treating the moderates and independents he's courting now any differently, should he win the presidency?

So what's truth to you jtb? Fox News?

Those are tired yawa
Your two examples are becoming ridiculous. I don't know of anyone who claims that Iraq was involved in 9/11. Only the left who did not have the courage to stand up to Saddam (who was not abiding by UN Resolutions) talk about that, and it is only in an attempt to discredit those who did have the cajones. Also, do you deny that Saddam used wmd on the Kurds? the Iranians? Was Saddam allowing open inspections on his facilities? If Saddam was simply playing a game...he was up against a man (Bush) and not a boy (Clinton).

Not Much Different Than McCain
McCain said during the primaries that he had heard us after defeating his amnesty, that we wanted the borders secured, the laws enforced and that we did not trust Washington to actually do something about illegal aliens. Now he's right back to pandering to hispanics with "Comprehensive Immigration Reform", amnesty, as his first priority.

We know ahead of time that McCain will have no hesitation treating conservatives like a dirty Kleenex if we vote for him. So we won't.

Carol says, "Anyone who's observed politics for any period of time is used to some finessing of positions between the primary and general elections. But the scope and the boldness of Barack's flip-flopping is really breathtaking."

I have asked for months, "How many Dem Presidents have ever quit a war?"

All one has to know is human nature, politicians, and history.

Perceptor II writes: Thursday, July, 03, 2008 7:37 PM
You hit the nail on the head, Carol.
It's the scope and breadth of his "change of emphasis". It's well known that in running for president one must emphasize positions that are in line with the party and the base during the primaries, then give greater emphasis on one's more centrist positions in the general election. But what Obama has done is overplayed this transition. He tacked so far left earlier this year and now has jumped with both feet into the center, even switching some of his more prominent positions. It just defies belief. Any reasonable person will look at Obama's campaign and conclude that at some point he must have been lying.

Ask John Kerry and the more than two DOZEN Dem Senators who thought the same thing and voted for war.

Here's What Obama Actually Said Today:
"Let me be as clear as I can be. I intend to end this war. My first day in office I will bring the Joint Chiefs of Staff in, and I will give them a new mission, and that is to end this war — responsibly, deliberately, but decisively. And I have seen no information that contradicts the notion that we can bring our troops out safely at a pace of one to two brigades a month, and again, that pace translates into having our combat troops out in 16 months' time."

Are we clear?

Crystal.

This is positively adorable! I'm loving this election season so far. I can't wait to see just how ridiculous the cons get in their shameless attempt to generate faux outrage over blatantly obvious falsehoods.

Nope. Obama hasn't changed his position on Iraq one bit.

agsin your ignorance on Iraq shines as a dimwit on this matter. I served in Iraq and really grew to admire the Iraqi's I found them to be hard working family oriented people. They are very happy that Americans are their to help rebuild their country from what Saddam did to them, for decades keeping them oppressed, and worried about the death sqauds the Fedayeen, which executd around 30,000 Iraqi's annully. Iraq has the potential on being a great nation in the middle east, but if we pull out prematurly you will definatley see a civil war. So I'll argue this subject against any liberal anytime anywhere!!!!

It is interesting that you are always commenting on articles using the Democrat's play book. Repeating any comments about us being in Iraq for 100 years in a combat status shows how ignorant you are of the real world.

Why don't you let everyone know that you actually work for the Obama campaign and are attempting to spread misinformation.

Fortunately most comments posted on Townhall.com are related to the article not some political BS.
Cooltruth writes: Friday, July, 04, 2008 8:27 AM
What he means by 'hope' & 'change'
He 'hopes' the voters won't notice his 'changes' in his platform before the election gets here or it will dash his 'hope' for getting elected as President. Voters against the war would've made a MUCH better choice by voting for Ron Paul (who actually sticks to his values) instead of flippy floppy Obama! FWIW: I've noticed that there is more 'age discrimination' than racial & sexual discrimination combined. Would people be voting for Obama if he were mature & 'experienced' or just thrown under the bus for another, younger candidate?
Willt65 writes: Friday, July, 04, 2008 10:19 AM
On The Other Hand....
"When I go to Iraq and I have a chance to talk to some of the commanders on the ground, I'm sure I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies," he said, according to CBS News.

Clear now? Clear as mud. This statment allows Obama to have it anyway he wants. This guy is all over the map on Iraq.

A WISEMAN CHANGES MIND ONLY WHEN RIGHT!
IN A NUTSHEL OBAMAS CHANGE MESSAGE IS QUITE MISLEADING! THE REALITY IS, THE PRETENTIOUS CHANGES ARE TO ENABLE AND INSURE THAT HIS AMBI-TION TO BE PRESIDENT WILL BE SECURED! AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, BY HOOK OR CROOK! HE DOESN'T CARE HOW, BECAUSE HIS SMITTEN GULLIBLE FOLLOWERS DO NOT WANT TO KNOW AND WILL DISBELIEVE ANY BAD REALITY ABOUT THEIR SAVIOUR! DISILLUSIONED DEMOCRAT. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME OF THE MAGIC OBAMA POTION, SO I CAN BE SEDUCED AND BELIEVE ALSO! AMEN
