A "Civilian National Security Force"?
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 10:28 PM
Having had the pleasure of sitting in for Hugh Hewitt today on his radio show, much of the discussion centered around a peculiar riff by Barack Obama in a speech from July 2 -- one which, remarkably enough, is going unreported by the media.

In a deviation from the speech's transcript as printed in the Wall Street Journal and the Denver Post, Barack added:

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

What in the world is he talking about in invoking the specter of a "civilian national security force"?  One caller -- an immigrant from Communist-era Romania -- confessed that the language reminded him of the dark days of Soviet domination.

Or could it be that he's simply trying to equate an army of young government Peace Corps types with the military -- except they'll be armed with brooms and shovels instead of guns?  Of course, that's worrisome, too, as it betrays a certain softness in Barack's conception of what "national security" entails.

Candidates who can be trusted with the leadership of the free world don't engage in weird little riffs that leave normal people puzzling over what they meant . . . and with no alternative that doesn't seem either disturbingly creepy or frighteningly naive.  Just another sign that Barack isn't quite ready for prime time?

You're late to the discussion
Carol! Yes, the National Security Force will be modeled after Ceausescu's Securitate, where millions of young people will be indoctrinated into slave labor in the name of Dear Leader. All Hail Obama!

Carol,

actually WorldNetDaily reported this several days ago. As far as I know, they are part of the media. I read them fairly regularly.

Why are people not crediting WND.com for reporting this story?

Good Ideas
Here's some ideas of civilian security forces.

American children can be groomed to "monitor" their parents for environmental infractions, gun ownership, and other incorrect behaviors so that school administrators can be notified.

A cadre of American youth, who have the correct ethnicity, can be trained to move about the community and report on any hate crimes. They can be empowered to advise offenders and suggest correct methods of expressing opinions on sensitive issues.

Eco warriors can be assigned neighborhoods and properly advise residents of correct conduct toward Mother Earth.

Truth reconcilers can be authorized to conduct public criticisms whereby white citizens stand outside and engage in 20 minutes of self criticism to foster more correct behavior in the future.

These are just a few ideas for ways to improve our security and standing in the world community.

Big Brother, Little Brother...
Control the schools, control the kids, control the nation. Sounds like Obama is more cunning than clever, more crafty than kind, and more sinister than sincere.

Somebody rip off his mask of change and hope to expose his BIG Brother solutions.

Each day we get more and more blindsighted by his smooth demeanor that lulls us into stupidity.

Send him in a time capsule back to the 60's and teach him how to sing folk songs. Let him be the Pied Piper in his fantacies but don't let him become the President of the United States.

Accept John McCain, historical warts and all, as the better choice!

must be a big issue for you, rightfully fearful that you are of "Big Brother". Am I right on that one?

Hey, Eddie
I'm not sure why Liebu (above) and Hewitt (below) don't credit WND, but Hot Air and Power Line clearly do.

From Hot Air (Ed Morrissey):

Sorry, left; this is scary and needs to be explained in excruciating detail by the candidate who proposed it. I've never considered owning a gun. The election of Obama will change my thinking.

Obama Youth
Seems like a proven plan to me. Hitler had a "youth movement" as did Pol Pot.

After all, the Boy Scouts are known haters.

KimBO
AYeah that's why the polls show that america prefers McCain as Commander in Chief by a 72 to 48 margin.

BO has no policy for anywhere in the world. He has a lot of talking points which you like to regurgitate - but no policy.

NYT reported this morning that BO has 300 foreign policy advisors reporting to him.

Gus, Please give proof
As a military member for the past 24 years it was refreshing to hear from "Gus" that Israel has been writing my paychecks. I personally have worked and fought beside the British, Canadians, Germans, Solvakians and French but not the Israelis. According to Dems, Gulf War I and II was fought by the GOP for oil, now you're telling me the Dems had it wrong, it was really Isreal pulling our strings for their adavancement!

This is old school communism...
...One of Fidel's first movements, after outlawing individual ownership of firearms, was to set up neighborhood committees for the national defense. Local volunteers were to spy on their neighbors and report any "counterrevolutionary" activities to the local police or national guards. Such activities included mostly opinions voiced by citizens and overheard by the spies. Police would make random arrests, keep people incarcerated with no explanation, then release them with no explanation.

There were also children's organizations, like the "Pioneros" (pioneers) who marched around in little uniforms with red bandana-like neckerchiefs over white shirts.

This is how a country evolves from a constitutional republic to a totalitarian communist regime. Anybody but Obama, please.

Brooms and Shovels
Even the naive imagination of the Civilian National Security force is a bit creepy if you remember that the Nazi's started doing drills with shovels before they were allowed to have weapons.

Civilian National Security Force
We already have one. It is comprised of about 60 million Gun Owners.
