MULTI-ETHNIC, NOT MULTI-CULTURAL
Posted by: Michael Medved at 5:40 PM

Barack Obama’s Hawaii vacation should remind him that the divisive “multiculturalism” touted by his liberal colleagues is a fraud, with no connection to American realities. While the new president’s native state boasts a white population of only 24 percent, neither visitors nor natives could mistake its inescapably American identity.

Hawaiians follow American sports and entertainment, serve proudly in the U.S. military, participate enthusiastically in politics, and bear far more resemblance to mainlanders than to their old-country cousins in Asia or Polynesia. Far from living in separated ethnic enclaves, Hawaiians mingle and intermarry—more than a third of all new weddings on the island state are inter-racial.  As Barack Obama’s own background attests, multi-ethnic doesn’t mean multi-cultural, and American values have nothing to do with skin color. We should affirm proud Americanism and the importance of assimilation, not the folly of race-based “diversity”.

YES
Thank you, Michael. This is so true and needed to be pointed out.

Multiculturalism
Indonesia does have a noticeably different culture, however.

You may want to retract this post.
Chloe writes: Tuesday, January, 13, 2009 6:59 PM
What nonsense.
We are all proud of our ethic heritage. We have many cultures, we sample them all. The "american identity' is something so archaic.
foxmustang writes: Tuesday, January, 13, 2009 7:15 PM
I disagree with Michael
Barry O has plenty of multi-cultural background.

Being born in Kenya gives you plenty of cultural diversity.

Amnesty Is Anti-fair
Not fair to actual immigrants who have paid the fees, waited their turn, fulfilled the legal requirements for the path to citizenship.
Cubsfan writes: Tuesday, January, 13, 2009 8:25 PM
Obama a symbol of the ruins of america
Obama was elected on the backs on third world immigrants. Without the 1965 Immigration act he wouldn't be President today and the Reagan would have lived on. They did a study in the national journal it claimed that if the Demographics in 1992 had been there in 2008 Obama would have lost 51-48 instead he won 53-46 and if this election were held in 2020 he would have won 57-42! Conservatives are doomed in Obama's America plain and simple.
Cubsfan writes: Tuesday, January, 13, 2009 8:29 PM
Correction
Obama was elected on the backs of third Wrold immigrants. In 1980 Obama loses by 8 points almost Reagan's margin over Carter. These people love the left's social welfare programs and that is unlikely to change in the near future. Yeah conservatives could get lucky and he could be a disaster but barring that we are done for 20 years!
Cubsfan writes: Tuesday, January, 13, 2009 8:36 PM
The Texas GOP is doomed!
Texas projected Demographics in 2030
Hispanics 52%
Whites 32%
Blacks 9%
Asians 7%

Given these trends and yes many hispanics will be under 18 it still hard to see how the GOP keeps this state. They average about 35% of hispanics. They won't be enough and the black vote is a total loss. Their 70-75 percent of the White will only keep them in power so long. Without Texas the GOP can't win a national election! The left has New York State, California, Illinois and New Jersey locked up. Plus Michigan and Pennsylvania are very uphill. Florida could become pretty blue too because of third world Broward and Dade counties.

Your figures and theories of the fate of Conservatives in the are right on. Too bad we may not be able to do adamn thing about it.

America has lost the southwest
The southwest won in 1848 has been lost without even a shot fired. Texas, California, New Mexico and maybe Arizona could fall to hispanic majorities in the next 30 years. Our open border policies since 1965 will have done what the Mexican armed forces in 1848 couldn't do defeat America for the southwest. Colorado and Nevada will be at least 35% hispanic too!

Assimilation is good
Multi racial is fine too, provided the goal is assimilation.
Mrs Ramsey writes: Wednesday, January, 14, 2009 8:53 AM
Whatever
The problem with Obama is that he hasn't studied the trajectory of his own partys' history. That of non acceptance and discrimination of those not white...they only do it out of convenience, to pad their constituent's rolls and voter registrations. If you don't believe this just look at the way the "elected mupped" has been slapped by his party leadership everyday. Check out the news and see how content the Barney Frank's Pelosi's Reids, Dodds, etc., etc., are with his attempt at trying to rule. their's is a "how dare he" attitude.

BHO'S GRANNY CALLS HIM KENYA'S SON!
Obama's Grandmother Comes to Washington
The step-grandmother of President-elect Barack Obama began her journey to Washington on Tuesday to... 1/2009 AP

Watch the video connected to this TH piece and hear the newswoman say Sarah Soetero is proud of "KENYA'S SON" (now why would she say that?) and hopes he will be "President of The World."

I have one word for you, the Opposition to Abortion. These states are mostly anti-abortion and hold firm to the knowledge tha at conception this tiny human life has a human soul, every child is a potential teacher, doctor, medical researcher, mother, sister, father, son, cleric, you get my drift right? What happens if the trends continues and the destruction of a life becomes as common as the discarding of a paper towel or even a discarded toilet paper? When will the next "True Messiah" (not the sham they call the Messiah now) be born? So much potential discarded mostly by liberals who believe that they and not "God" should determine the future of their families and instead of being responsible in their "reproductive efforts" feel that Abortion is the easiest way out. It's an inconvenience easily solved by murder.
There is a passion for that first "butterfly" like flutter in the womb that indicates the first "hi mommy" greetings from the human inside.
lewisw writes: Wednesday, January, 14, 2009 10:16 AM
Curious! WHY would Obama's grandmother
refer to him as being the son of Kenya? Just a figure of speech, I wonder?
Joe writes: Wednesday, January, 14, 2009 11:39 AM
Missed multi cultural opportunity
Rush did not dine with Obama. They should meet. It would do Obama some good. He needs to get away from the socialist yes men occasionally and get some diversity of thought. George Will is a start, but not good enough. Kristol might as well be Judas to the conservative movement.

They used to say the same about the Irish. The issue is not who is Hispanic or not, the issue is assimilation. If you have the latter, it does not matter.
Keith writes: Friday, January, 16, 2009 2:08 AM
No, Joe
Cubsfan is correct. It's unlikely the GOP will ever win another presidential race if the current demographic trends continue. Get ready for 50-100 years of socialism destroying the America we once knew. Not hoping for this, just being realistic.

Look, I know you Medved-inspired optimists want to hope and believe. Well, the minorities of today do assimilate into the mainstream but they will NEVER give up their liberal nanny state voting. Look at blacks- they are firmly entrenched in the middle class now, doing better than they've ever done. 98 PERCENT VOTED FOR OBAMA. 92 PERCENT VOTED FOR KERRY. White lib (Gore/Kerry) or black lib (Obama), it doesn't matter- minorities will always vote for the handouts. And soon they will be the majority.
It's over, folks.
